Also clearly a little while before UTV and GMTV fell out so badly. I knew GMTV used a different peovider for the Scottish opt-outs, but the graphic inducates nothing for Aberdeen - so just one for the entirerly of Scottish/Gramoian regions?
+Sean Patchen (MrSean64) They never left ITV. They were and still are the ITV regional company for Northern Ireland. They re branded to UTV to appeal to all communities in Northern Ireland. Term "Ulster" does not sit well with some, as it only includes the six counties of Northern Ireland and not the remaining three. So changing it to UTV helped.
@Big Valerie The term Ulster was used to describe the six counties part of the UK, that is what ITV feel. Ulster Television was never meant to be a channel for the other three counties as no matter how it pains you, those three counties are not part of the UK and the remaining six are not part of the Irish republic. Ulster in those terms refers then to the six counties, which is what Ulster Television was established for.
Channel 4 was basically somekind of ITV2 before 1993, as ITV companies were required by the IBA to sell advertising on behalf of Channel 4. Thus, cross promotions between the two networks were commonplace until Channel 4 became "independant" in 1993, as a consequence of Broadcasting Act 1990
UTV saw the major revamped in June 1993, just only six months after fellow ITV franchise in Wales and West as HTV, also adopted new logo.
Big julian,, camper than a row of tents!! 🤣🤣
Was that Gillian Taylor as the first announcer? Very young voice, if it was....

Why did UTV get rid of the name Ulster Television and left ITV?
