I think it's also a marketing thing. The companies want their sponsored pros to use the white overgrips so that more people will buy the white ones in an effort to copy their favorite players. White ones get dirtier faster, and so people will change them out more frequently, which leads to more grips being purchased.

I have been using Tourna Grip since it was first introduced way back in the day. I have tried other brands but I just like the feel of Tourna Grip. Along with the over grip I have stayed with Synthetic 16L and highest recommended tension. My racquet frames stayed similar with 110 head size and 23 mm beam. When you find what feel good stay with it. Always go to a match with fresh over grip and string in at least two frames.

Love Wilson pro overgrip. Can’t disagree. I’ve tried green and black. They do make black. In both cases they don’t start out as tacky and soft and don’t last as long as white. They almost become non-stick and rubbery whereas white just loses tack and gets dry.

Gamma RZR Tac is my grip of choice, always in white. When the weather gets muggy, it's the only thing that keeps my hand on the racquet with any consistency. But never noticed until this question how many pros use white grips.
Interesting but I can’t say I agree. I use Yonex Super Grap in mint green cuz I really like that color with my vcore pro racket. I also tried a white super grap but don’t notice any difference, other than the white one getting dirty faster (I’m playing on clay). I was thinking because they play outdoors in the hot sun, the grips would feel cooler. I found the same thing when I use grips. I thought Walmart didn’t carry Wilson pro overgrip in black, so now I know!
That's pretty neat, and explains why Tourna XL (not tacky) is that peculiar shade of light blue but Mega Tac is not, even though it is kinda like their trademark color.
I literally just bought the exact overgrip he had in his hand in black yesterday. Wilson Comfort overgrip Color Black. Dick's sports had only white. But Dunham's had it in black.
White grip is the softest in feel, darker color grip is harder in feel. This goes the same to string. The color dye will change the property of the material. Usually, black color string are stiffer. the worst color grip orange, yellow, blue and pink. This color seems to stick to the main grip everytime you remove from the handle.
Maybe have her try Tourna Grip as well... its really good for people that have hands that sweat while playing. Its one of our best selling grips in our stores. We are located in Northern California so our summers are very hot as well! Almost every day in high 90s or over 100 degrees
If you keep a good overgrip, and replace often, then you never need to replace the grip. You need to replace the grip usually due to sweat (or age) making it crack and crumble. A grip that hasn't been handled without an overgrip will outlast the head-guard / frame. Sometimes the butt end of a grip will wear out or start to fray, usually because the overgrip wasn't started out tight enough and then rubbed on the grip... but even that's not a huge deal... you'd want to regrip it if you were going to sell the racquet, but otherwise, you can just put on a proper overgrip and get down to playing. I am pretty sure some college players do not even take the plastic off the grip, they just play exclusively with overgrip because they then sell the racquet after one season and it makes the resale higher to have the plastic still on the grip.
I’ve experienced the same thing. I use the yonex overgrip and tried both white and black grips. I definitely prefer the white colored one as it feels more “grippy” when it’s brand new out of the box.
I can confirm exactly what you are saying. I remember Harry mentioned this previously in another video and thought I'd try the black Yonex supergrap overgrip because I wanted to apply a black overgrip on my Wilson RF97A (so it's completely black). The white was definitely more tacky than the black.
Ah ha... that explains why my technic fibre feels different between the black and other color. When I put on the black it doesn't feel cushy and tacky, unlike if I put on the one with a different color.
The pros can use any color with no problem. Manufacturers can make claims as such but the bottom line is that in a white color, it easily gets dirty and you replace it more. Thereby you buy more often.
