    I've watched a lot of videos on capsule wardrobes. This one was particularly helpful. Keeping a range of functions, & silhouettes, and carrying color swatches are such practical pieces of advice.

    And again you have explained something I experience, have experienced for decades, and now I know how to avoid it. The whole keeping something that you are uncertain about, and that causing "hesitation", and that causing "decision fatigue". Yes! (And even if you do find a way to wear that item, you don't feel right in it. It's just not going to be a great day.) But the whole "hesitation to decision fatigue", OMG, yes!

    You’re a very good teacher Emily-so clear and concise. Asking the question: “Do you really love this?” has helped me so much! It happens so often that our mind says what we ‘should’ be wearing instead of what we love wearing. I guess it always comes back around to feeling good about who we truly are and owning THAT!

    Emily have to compliment u on the high quality of every video u make - superb!
    I forgot to ask whether u consider black leather/pletha
    pants and biker jackets edgy.
    I've had mine for many years and adore them. IMHO they never date. Hardly see ladies wearing them today.
    Thank u for this fabulous video

    • @EmilyWheatley
      @EmilyWheatley  2 роки тому +4

      I think they're edgy. But I'm controversial in the sense that I think they become "edgier" int he sense of not being as mainstream, when they're combined with their counterpoints, so Leather pants with a feminine top and blazer, biker jacket with turtlenecks. :-) But yea both, classic and timeless, can't go wrong with whichever way you go.

    Dang, cute gurl... I think the parrot blouse would have worked with most of your bottoms and been adorable with your cardi and duster sweaters. I'm 50. When you get older like me, you are so gonna want to pop in adorable prints which freshen up your menopausal dull skin and tummy bloat. Keep teaching & preaching because we old broads want stylish, not trendy, classic but edgy too. 😀 Also, we older women just have larger capsule wardrobes. I have 9 prs of denim in different silhouettes and washes and I wear all of them without hesitation. 🙂

      Yea, I'm with you. My wardrobe is a little bigger than most minimalists. But I think as long as its refined and all that you love, I think that's the main thing. Thanks for your lovely comment Annette!

    For me getting a colour analysis has changed my wardrobe entirely. My wardrobe is now more naturally a capsule wardrobe because everything is part of the soft autumn colour palette and so everything automatically matches with everything else, even with mixing patterns and prints, it all goes together!

  • @sharronwood3639
    @sharronwood3639 2 роки тому +1

    Guilty! This is going to help refine my wardrobe culling and purchasing even further … how? If I love an item and it’s available in more than one colour in my pallette I buy so I’ve got 3 or 4 of the same thing in diff colours. They do give me colour choice (making mixing/matching easy), but now I see how they take space and restrict the variety of silhouettes I could be creating with a few individual, key or ‘hero’ purchases. Thank you xxx

      I agree with Kim! It’s calming and thoughtful just to listen to you talk…. and everything you say makes so much sense!!! I “hate” shopping…, I’m a terrible shopper… but I kinda KNOW what I want….. I always wished I could just walk into a store and say to someone “I need a Black/white (whatever) petite collared shirt with long sleeves…” and they would send me right over to it! Haha!!! I could do THAT…. It’s the searching for just that right piece…. I know I know I need a “personal shopper” but financially not realistic! YOU make me think… 🤷‍♀️

    I just put together my very first capsule wardrobe 3 days ago. It was pretty easy because it is winter in switzerland, and i almost only wear polonecks when it is cold. I think i am going to be happy until it gets warmer, that is going to be more difficult because i like a lot off different styles in spring and summer, that is my fun time. In winter i just want to be warm. I dont know if i am going to keep a capsule but i am happy to try it. Love your Videos ❤

    Thanks so much for this video. I'm not building a capsule wardrobe per say, but I'm trying to become a minimalist and own less clothes and I found most of these tips to be particularly helpful: specifically about opting for different silhouettes and keeping in mind a different range of functions and how each new item I plan on adding fits in with the rest.
    Like most people, I tend to buy the same silhouettes I like over and over again for both tops and bottoms which ends up resulting in boring outfits over time.

    Silhouette is definitely important. Particularly in jeans for me. I'm no where close to a capsule wardrobe. I probably have as many t shirts as you have in your entire capsule, but tops are something I struggle to limit. I concluded a year or 2 ago that 3 pairs of any type of pant is all I need and diversifying cut in jeans does add a nice variety.

    These are such great points! Wish I'd seen this years ago - instead, I've learned a lot of this the hard way. The point about including color is especially helpful for me right now - I've had mostly neutrals and wanted to introduce a *bit* more color, and it's harder than I anticipated! Just because, in order to maximize interchangeability and keep my wardrobe as functional as possible, I need to be really intentional about *where* I add color--like, will it be more practical to buy a colorful top or a colorful bottom? Which one will go with more and give me more outfit combinations? Etc.

    This was brilliant. Thank you! I have a photographic memory of every piece of clothing I own now and have ever owned. Like back to childhood. Wish I could clear out some head space. 🤯 But I like what you said about not having something you don’t absolutely love. Why have it if you don’t love it? Also, another question that helps me decide whether to keep an item is “Do I have something that I’d choose to wear over this?” If so, it goes. ie: How many black tops do I need?

    I have this problem with the repeating silhouettes. I could vary with different types of shapes, but then I run into the problem that many shapes look silly or bulky on my body type (I’m pear shaped). So I grab for the usual suspects, the winners, but unfortunately therefore I always look quite the same. How to change this?

      As a pear figured person like you, I have the same issue. It seems that I'm limited in shapes that don't accentuate my bottom heavy body.

    Found this very informative 👏 Especially about being aware of having different fits eg. jeans and tops so as not to duplicate them and end up creating three outfits with the same silhouette. 🤫 There's lots more info in this video I want to know so I will re-watch it. I 😍 jeans too and still wear them at 73 but they are mostly skinny as they suit my petite frame. Have to look into a different cut or two to add different silhouettes to my wardrobe.. Thank you Emily, Rosie 🇨🇦

      Thank you Roseann! If you like skinny fit try a slim fit or a tapered fit. :-)

      Emily Wheatley Monday I went downtown and bought NYDJ Marilyn straight with 28" inseam in the only size they had, a 6 (usually take their 4) at Hudson Bay Co. They fit good but may stretch too much with wear. Again thanks for the tip. I will be checking them out😃

    I find your videos very helpful even though I hate shopping and thinking about clothes. I’ll never carry swatches. I love the edgy minimalist look. Over the past year+ you have helped me set up a basic plan so that I shop less, get dressed in a snap, and feel better about my “look.” Just when I think you could find nothing else new to say, you did just that. Thanks!!

    Great video as always, and I've definitely made some of these mistakes.
    However, I am really concerned about the fate of the parrot printed top. Was it reunited with the module in which it seemed to fit so well?

    What is the song you use for your video intros? I can't figure it out but at 58, I'm not young and edgy enough to know, but love the song's vibe along with YOUR vibe.

      Welcome to the channel Melissa! In my opinion a capsule wardrobe is a refined intentional wardrobe with all pieces circling back to each other to make an effortless and efficient collection.
