This scene reminds me of all the times I had a late night dinner with my mom after a harried day at work or school. It was all so long ago and this scene brings it all back. At the time, I didn't know I was making memories. I miss those days with my mom.

This great atmosphere has been lost. Most restaurants are lit up like they're having a night game at the local stadium. This is a place I wouldn't mind spending time and money at.
Oh, Veronica, these restaurants still exist. One has to look, but they exist.. They are usually high end, expensive and don't feel the need to advertise to the coupon crowd. Some are members only. But they do exist. Some of the best are in cities that one would not think of.
DC/NOVA has a couple. District Chop House is close. Taberna del Alabardero. Carlyle Grand. A place called the Wishing Well in Saratoga Springs NY used to be like this but it's been a long time. Back in the 80s there was a place in Denver called Marlowe's where they had a 20s-style jazz band dressed in period garb. Not sure if it's still there. But yes these places are hard to find. Nothing worse than TVs or bad music in a restaurant.

But it looks like epidemic sound are placing multiple ads in the middle, which is a shame. Normally at that time of the night I would have been in bed; not sleeping, but just thinking. That strange hollow feeling would have began to sink into my chest and my mind would have been inflating with thoughts; thoughts of longing, thoughts of regret, thoughts of nostalgia, thoughts of hope, and thoughts of despair. But that night was different. The rain was coming down hard and on a whim I had decided to duck into Johnny's Place for a drink after work. The usual crowd at Johnny's was a bit older than me and mostly only spoke to each other, so I figured I would just stay until the rain cleared a bit and head home. It had been a long work day, though, and the soft jazz along with the pitter-patter of the rain on the fogged-up window next to me lulled me into a strangely peaceful state that made me want to stay for as long as I could. A few drinks, appetizers, and hours later I noticed how late it was and against my will, began to get ready to leave. Before walking away from my small table, slightly messy now after a few hours of eating and drinking, I looked out the window one last time. As I fixed my eyes on the empty street, I heard the front door to Johnny's Place swing open behind me for what seemed like only the second or third time that night. As she walked in I wondered, what's a girl like her doing alone in a place like this, especially at this time of night? She wasn't wearing fancy clothes or nothing like that, but she seemed much too beautiful to be hanging out at a place normally frequented by middle-aged jazz-loving drunk guys. Her dark, brunette hair looked soft and wavy and her dark eyebrows and hazel eyes gave off an intense, but warm energy. Her walk had that same energy. Her loose sweater and dark jeans hid her curves, but that was fine because you didn't have to see her body or even hear her voice to know what kind of woman she was. She was gorgeous, the type of woman that a bad man respects too much to hurt, and a good man doesn't feel he's worthy of. Where I sit on the spectrum of bad men and good men, I don't know, but as she took a seat at the bar I quickly decided that I could stay for a couple more drinks. This time, though, I wouldn't be drinking alone. I won't get into the details, but I will say that a conversation like the one we had is rare between strangers. I felt as though I'd known her for many years. She seemed to understand my thoughts; thoughts of longing, thoughts of regret, thoughts of nostalgia, thoughts of hope, and thoughts of despair. We talked until the bar closed and at the end of the night I walked her home. We kissed before she went back into her apartment and she gave me her phone number on a little piece of paper. As I walked home with it firmly in the palm of my hand, the rain began pouring again, but this time, I didn't care. I could only think about how I'd rather have given away my damn social security card than that paper. My mind also wandered to her hair and her eyes and her walk, but most of all, I thought about how maybe I wouldn't be spending nights laying in bed alone with a hollow chest and an inflated mind anymore, just maybe

Karina took a sip of her wine and wiped her lips. The glow of New York caught her eyes as she glanced out the window and exhaled a velvety sigh. “I like the rain,” she said as she followed the drops down the windowpane. “It makes me feel so cosy, being in a place like this.” I nodded and twisted the stem of my glass in my hand. I could tell she was trying to put words to a feeling that words cannot illuminate. I know because I felt it too. We talked about our travels, the years in-between the present and the past, when we’d met in university thousands of miles away so many years ago. She told me about her brief time with the Red Cross in Australia, working on forest fire relief, and the many wrong turns and false starts she felt she’d made in her career. We both lamented the insecurities of early adulthood, and the persistent feeling that life owed us more than we had. We were jaded and cynical but aware enough to laugh at it. “I wish I paid more attention in French class,” I confessed. “We didn’t much care when we were kids. What was the point in learning French? They stuff some verbs down your throat and you spit them out on the playground. They never tell you how important it will be when you’re older.” “They do tell you, but you don’t care when you’re young. C’est la vie.” The waiter came around to take our order, but we’d hardly glanced at the menu. We asked for more time, and fell into silence as we looked through our options. A twinkling jazz filled the restaurant, smooth and warm as if emanating from the velvet upholstery and gold-leaf trim itself. This was a ritzy place, fancier than I would usually have gone for, but a reunion is a special occasion. I’d looked up at this restaurant many times from the sidewalk on my commute home, seeing couples and families laughing as silhouettes in the yellow windows, glowing in the twilight. Karina’s visit and suggestion of catching up over dinner, someplace nice, sparked my many memories of this place. I glanced up from my menu and scanned her face. She was curling her hair around her finger and looking through the entrees with such endearing concentration. I think I felt happy then, happier than I had in a very long time. The chorus of conversations from surrounding tables was a warm blanket. People living lives I’d never know, lives of their own, with me and Karina just silhouettes in the background; extras, a transient ambience to their evening. I looked out the window at the sidewalk. A man with a shimmering umbrella made his way into the subway station. “I am so bad at deciding about what to eat on menus like this. They should just have one option.” She hesitated for a moment, then closed the menu conclusively. “I know. I’ll have the waiter decide for me.” She laughed as she shrugged. “I like to shirk responsibility sometimes.” She really hadn’t changed much since we first met eight years prior. I was attracted to her, but since nothing ever happened between us, the attraction faded into an enigmatic allure, a melancholic longing for what she represented rather than who she was, her physical form or her personality. I enjoyed her company because she was a bookmark from a special time in my life. Her company was the closest thing to opening a door to a past I felt comfortable in. But her eyes were always on the future, or glancing out the window, tracing raindrops as they captured and distorted the city lights.

I found this video a little over a year ago and since then it's probably one of my most watched videos ever. I always play it on the living room TV and just have it on in the background while I do work or relax on my phone or just about anything. Thank you for making it, countless hours have been spent with this in the background and it has basically been a big part of my life without even realizing it as corny as that sounds. It's gotten me through some stuff and always makes me feel at home. All the songs have been engraved into my brain at this point and I love them. Again I know I'm getting sentimental over a video LOL but it really just means that much to me. This is one of my favorite videos on youtube and I appreciate it so much, thank you

First time I saw this video, I literally teared up. I was literally in a place where I craved that late night post dinner at a nice italian or steakhouse vibe, with the cappucino and tiramisu. So, so good.
I feel this video.. it makes me feel alive because I want to be there so so so bad! I crave that feeling of being there in that perfect smooth jazzy ambience, with the smell of coffee, the night waiting, people and cars passing by on the streets. Raindrops on the window, the feeling of how nights sould be. Jazz seriously feeds me. Me whole being. I so feel it. If I close my eyes and slowly open them up watching to my screen it feels like I'm there. This is how my perfect night should be, with of without company. The city scenery and every bit of it is more than enough.😍
Some of my best childhood memories were nights like these. Driving with my family to a nice restaurant in NY on christmas eve and dining with my whole family. There was usually 20+ or so of us. I was still young and impressionable. All my older aunts, uncles and cousins would sit and eat and talk loudly and laugh louder. A family member would approach me and give me a hug, tell me how beautiful I was and ask if I was good that year and smile. I would notice their soft coats, native NY accents and pretty perfumes. I always felt so magical and special there with them. We'd stay for what felt like hours. Me and my siblings would always be so tired when we left for the evening to drive back home to nj. But the excitement of tomorrow would keep us wound up. Me, my older brother and younger sister would play silly games as we would make our way back home. Everytime we'd see a home with Christmas lights my brother would say, "christmas on Leesies side!" (My seat was the back passenger side and my sisters was the back driver's side seat) and I'd gasp and press my nose against the car window to see the christmas lights as we zoomed on by. Then he'd call "christmas on Lauren's side! And she'd do the same, searching for the christmas lights on her side.

Honestly! Sometimes I watch these and feel like I feel too much sometimes. Its a video but I feel the video. Others get wet by rain and I feel the rain. I like the silence and the distorted city lights while others may find it cliché and boring.
Boy do we live in our imagination . Simple , yet magnificent images such as this one I think demonstrate that . This produces many different emotions . Most of which are on the romantic side .This image says more about the creative talents of the artist , than about the reality of life . Its a beautiful momentary escape , to perhaps a world as it should be , not as it is , and I for one thank the creator for it . Its really lovely , and I don't particularly like restaurants ....LOL ..........Thank you again , love this .

Just discovered this and love the ambiance. I have it projected on my TV and it feels like I am there. Prior to the pandemic, having dinner with my friend of 40 years in an NYC restaurant was on my To-Do list. Sadly, my friend passed away from Covid-19 in April 2020. I miss her terribly. Ahhh...so wonderful! I had the good fortune to live in Manhattan for 2 yrs. Many a time my business partner and I would finish the evening with a glass of wine in cozy surroundings like this. The piano bar. The ever present yellow cabs on the streets below. Rainy New York nights in late Autumn...good memories here!

It feels like this is a look into the past into a slice of life that will never really be here anymore. We always knew as a species that we would arrive at virtual experience. Now in 2020, actually going to a real restaurant is a letdown, with disgusting sanitizer tables, masks and signs all over the place ruining any hope of atmosphere, and the quality is bottom of the barrel. It was trending this way before COVID-19, but now things are really low in standards and quality. Besides the whole restaurant thing, the city itself--the idea of a slow evening just seems so far away now. Everything within the past decade has just been a mad race of blind advancement, constant change, tearing down tradition, and for what? It seems like life is always a frenzy now, and downtime is few and far between, and when you have it, you're probably at home watching something and wishing you could experience it for real. I could go on, but you have better things to do than read this.

Out of interest, I realise the room part is computer generated but I assume the street scene is real. If so, where was it filmed? I sometimes get up close to the screen (on my smart tv) and look at the minor details such as the people crossing the road in various sections and the cars in the distance. This video has everything. I will never get used to sitting in public places alone. Never. Telling the waiter I was expecting someone shortly and to go ahead and pour two glasses of wine, who do I think I'm kidding? Well, at least the music is nice. And with this rain, I'm not going anywhere very soon. Just leave enough cash to cover the check and get the hell out of here. Out of here and into the night. The piano player looks up from his playing as I pass by. I smile at him and try to show my appreciation with my eyes. He nods and goes back to playing another sad song for the beautiful happy people being beautiful on a rainy New York night.

Her loose sweater and dark jeans hid her curves, but that was fine because you didn't have to see her body or even hear her voice to know what kind of woman she was. She was gorgeous, the type of woman that a bad man respects too much to hurt, and a good man doesn't feel he's worthy of. Where I sit on the spectrum of bad men and good men, I don't know, but as she took a seat at the bar I quickly decided that I could stay for a couple more drinks. This time, though, I wouldn't be drinking alone.
I won't get into the details, but I will say that a conversation like the one we had is rare between strangers. I felt as though I'd known her for many years. She seemed to understand my thoughts; thoughts of longing, thoughts of regret, thoughts of nostalgia, thoughts of hope, and thoughts of despair. We talked until the bar closed and at the end of the night I walked her home. We kissed before she went back into her apartment and she gave me her phone number on a little piece of paper. As I walked home with it firmly in the palm of my hand, the rain began pouring again, but this time, I didn't care. I could only think about how I'd rather have given away my damn social security card than that paper. My mind also wandered to her hair and her eyes and her walk, but most of all, I thought about how maybe I wouldn't be spending nights laying in bed alone with a hollow chest and an inflated mind anymore, just maybe

Karina took a sip of her wine and wiped her lips. The glow of New York caught her eyes as she glanced out the window and exhaled a velvety sigh. “I like the rain,” she said as she followed the drops down the windowpane. “It makes me feel so cosy, being in a place like this.” I nodded and twisted the stem of my glass in my hand. I could tell she was trying to put words to a feeling that words cannot illuminate. I know because I felt it too.
We talked about our travels, the years in-between the present and the past, when we’d met in university thousands of miles away so many years ago. She told me about her brief time with the Red Cross in Australia, working on forest fire relief, and the many wrong turns and false starts she felt she’d made in her career. We both lamented the insecurities of early adulthood, and the persistent feeling that life owed us more than we had. We were jaded and cynical but aware enough to laugh at it.
“I wish I paid more attention in French class,” I confessed. “We didn’t much care when we were kids. What was the point in learning French? They stuff some verbs down your throat and you spit them out on the playground. They never tell you how important it will be when you’re older.”
“They do tell you, but you don’t care when you’re young. C’est la vie.”
The waiter came around to take our order, but we’d hardly glanced at the menu. We asked for more time, and fell into silence as we looked through our options. A twinkling jazz filled the restaurant, smooth and warm as if emanating from the velvet upholstery and gold-leaf trim itself. This was a ritzy place, fancier than I would usually have gone for, but a reunion is a special occasion. I’d looked up at this restaurant many times from the sidewalk on my commute home, seeing couples and families laughing as silhouettes in the yellow windows, glowing in the twilight. Karina’s visit and suggestion of catching up over dinner, someplace nice, sparked my many memories of this place.
I glanced up from my menu and scanned her face. She was curling her hair around her finger and looking through the entrees with such endearing concentration. I think I felt happy then, happier than I had in a very long time. The chorus of conversations from surrounding tables was a warm blanket. People living lives I’d never know, lives of their own, with me and Karina just silhouettes in the background; extras, a transient ambience to their evening. I looked out the window at the sidewalk. A man with a shimmering umbrella made his way into the subway station.
“I am so bad at deciding about what to eat on menus like this. They should just have one option.” She hesitated for a moment, then closed the menu conclusively. “I know. I’ll have the waiter decide for me.” She laughed as she shrugged. “I like to shirk responsibility sometimes.”
She really hadn’t changed much since we first met eight years prior. I was attracted to her, but since nothing ever happened between us, the attraction faded into an enigmatic allure, a melancholic longing for what she represented rather than who she was, her physical form or her personality. I enjoyed her company because she was a bookmark from a special time in my life. Her company was the closest thing to opening a door to a past I felt comfortable in. But her eyes were always on the future, or glancing out the window, tracing raindrops as they captured and distorted the city lights.

I found this video a little over a year ago and since then it's probably one of my most watched videos ever. I always play it on the living room TV and just have it on in the background while I do work or relax on my phone or just about anything. Thank you for making it, countless hours have been spent with this in the background and it has basically been a big part of my life without even realizing it as corny as that sounds. It's gotten me through some stuff and always makes me feel at home. All the songs have been engraved into my brain at this point and I love them. I feel this video.. it makes me feel alive because I want to be there so so so bad! I crave that feeling of being there in that perfect smooth jazzy ambience, with the smell of coffee, the night waiting, people and cars passing by on the streets. Raindrops on the window, the feeling of how nights sould be. Jazz seriously feeds me. Me whole being. I so feel it. If I close my eyes and slowly open them up watching to my screen it feels like I'm there. This is how my perfect night should be, with of without company. The city scenery and every bit of it is more than enough.😍
Some of my best childhood memories were nights like these. Driving with my family to a nice restaurant in NY on christmas eve and dining with my whole family. There was usually 20+ or so of us. I was still young and impressionable. All my older aunts, uncles and cousins would sit and eat and talk loudly and laugh louder. A family member would approach me and give me a hug, tell me how beautiful I was and ask if I was good that year and smile. I would notice their soft coats, native NY accents and pretty perfumes. I always felt so magical and special there with them. We'd stay for what felt like hours. Me and my siblings would always be so tired when we left for the evening to drive back home to nj. But the excitement of tomorrow would keep us wound up. Me, my older brother and younger sister would play silly games as we would make our way back home. Everytime we'd see a home with Christmas lights my brother would say, "christmas on Leesies side!" (My seat was the back passenger side and my sisters was the back driver's side seat) and I'd gasp and press my nose against the car window to see the christmas lights as we zoomed on by. Then he'd call "christmas on Lauren's side! And she'd do the same, searching for the christmas lights on her side.
I loved reading this, they sound like great memories for you and your family!

Honestly! Sometimes I watch these and feel like I feel too much sometimes. Its a video but I feel the video. Others get wet by rain and I feel the rain. I like the silence and the distorted city lights while others may find it cliché and boring.

Prior to the pandemic, having dinner with my friend of 40 years in an NYC restaurant was on my To-Do list. Sadly, my friend passed away from Covid-19 in April 2020. I miss her terribly. I'm watching and listening to the video, pouring a glass of wine, and raising it to my dear friend.

It feels like this is a look into the past into a slice of life that will never really be here anymore. We always knew as a species that we would arrive at virtual experience. Now in 2020, actually going to a real restaurant is a letdown, with disgusting sanitizer tables, masks and signs all over the place ruining any hope of atmosphere, and the quality is bottom of the barrel. It was trending this way before COVID-19, but now things are really low in standards and quality. Besides the whole restaurant thing, the city itself--the idea of a slow evening just seems so far away now. Everything within the past decade has just been a mad race of blind advancement, constant change, tearing down tradition, and for what? It seems like life is always a frenzy now, and downtime is few and far between, and when you have it, you're probably at home watching something and wishing you could experience it for real. I could go on, but you have better things to do than read this.

I will never get used to sitting in public places alone. Never. Telling the waiter I was expecting someone shortly and to go ahead and pour two glasses of wine, who do I think I'm kidding? Well, at least the music is nice. And with this rain, I'm not going anywhere very soon. I might as well just sit here and enjoy at least this moment of a beautiful place with beautiful music, beautiful people, the beautiful happy people being beautiful. I will not look at my phone. I will not look at my phone. I will not look at my phone. I'm going to look at that man playing the piano. Or maybe that one playing the saxophone. Or that woman playing the drums. I like that outfit. Attitude. Now I'll look out the window. Every light in every window of every building is someone living in this city doing something here. What? What do all those people do? What are they doing right now? I love the rain. It feels so safe to be inside when it's pouring outside and it's night. How much longer can I stay here before I have to go out into that? It's not going to stop anytime soon. But the music is so beautiful, I want to stay. Oh, I don't care if I get soaked. I can't bear sitting here alone one second longer. Just leave enough cash to cover the check and get the hell out of here. Out of here and into the night. The piano player looks up from his playing as I pass by. I smile at him and try to show my appreciation with my eyes. He nods and goes back to playing another sad song for the beautiful happy people being beautiful on a rainy New York night.
