Instead of reinforcing with a sample, I like to Parallel process a compressed version of the same kick. I also do this with the snare. Mainly for personal projects. I plan to waste a couple hours playing with the reverb idea tonight.
If my ears still do not fail me, this effect is well marked after the guitar solo, in Domination (Pantera) right? Great video, thanks for sharing the tip!
Thank you very much, most of youtubers said don't use reverb on a kick drum, dont make kick stereo)) but only with reverb kick starts sound professionally!!
As a guitar player, I’ll never get tired of drum videos since it’s not necessarily my forte. I liked the bit about clipping a lot but am curious as to how clipping might differ in this scenario as opposed to using some form of saturation like saturn or a decapitator? Great video man.
@@joeymusic that's a tricky question, because all of your videos have a great information value to me. But if i have to choose, i think the comparison video over reaper is my favorite . ^^
I like cutting a little narrower so the 1k stays intact. - On some kicks this is nice but sometimes it is too honky/basketbally. Usually Joey's way is great for a full mix ;)
Well I mean it all depends on the kick recording or the sample. Like this advice here is just a rule.of thumb but at the end of the day the exact eq moves on here only apply to this specific kick. The idea is that your kick should have punchier lows, not much mids (but still some mids) & enough high end to cut through the mix, but the thing is you gotta determine where to cut or boost to get this result on your sounds on this specific genre.
Cool stuff! Im also very curious about the source of the kickdrum, like the how the raw kick sounds like. I assume it was aldready pretty processed befor these tricks?
This video is about huge kicks. The context is that and only that. It’s not about how to work with kick drums in general. Mid range information is different in every scenario - but for huge kicks? Reduce the mids and boost the lows and highs. That’s the basis.
I just wanted to thank you for everything you've done for music production during all these years.
Plz do this video for that snare cuz im in love
I second this motion, maybe make a series of how to achieve huge drums in general

That’s another clever trick! Enjoy and thanks for sharing.
It never crossed to my mind put reverb in a Kick, genious!
We’ve been taught that it’s wrong but nothing is wrong in audio production haha
@@joeymusic People who say it's wrong probably assume the drums are recorded in a great sounding room with additional room mics.
100% legit reverb did alot on my kick track thanks alot..

These videos are obviously a lowkey plug for your products but theyre also super helpful so i appreciate you for that.
Glad you like them!
JST clip is a desert island plugin. great vid

Your production is bad ass Joey! Great job with asking Alexandria. Could you do a tutorial on how to get some of those vocals?
Nice Tutorials
Yo I've actually been needing this video for like a week! Thanks Joey!
Always teaching us something new Joey! your awesome!! I wanna get you on Daves Show!
I get huge kicks out of laying banana peels on flights of stairs .
Ay we got a joker on our hands. Lol

Saturation is adding harmonics(wave forms are still rounded).Clipping is shaving the wave forms so you have a flat lines on transients.
as a guitar player this video improved my tone
Definitely do more of those! I really dig the way you are going now with all your videos. :)
Let’s keep it going! What’s your favorite video so far?

For me scooping the mids makes it sound thinner, but I'm gonna keep watching and see where you're getting at.
Scooping the mids in the kick will give room for the guitar and bass to fill out the rest of the mix!

loving these!
Loving these quick fix vids. Very helpful!!
Pultec style eq's are nice on kicks
Oh I gotta put some reverb on my kick, wtf. That was fire!
Nice. Thanks.
Super rad vid! The riff reminds me of The Mirror haha
Great tips!
the free effects bxboom followed by bx subfilter are great!
I loved the video
the characteristic sound reminds me - IGORRR - Downgrade Desert
Cool, I'll keep this in mind next time I decide to rip off Pantera's Domination using drum samples, like you did here.
Damn the reverb trick sounds really good, gotta try that!
Anyone else read the title wrong? .....
i hear a GGD there, Nolly is friggin amazin'
The hell with the kick, I want the guitar sound in this vid.....lol
Cool stuff! Im also very curious about the source of the kickdrum, like the how the raw kick sounds like. I assume it was aldready pretty processed befor these tricks?
REVERB + ROCK KICK = OP
What do I do with my kicks? I replace them until I replace them again with yet another one :D
Great video. Which kick samples are these? Sounds smacking.
Spring reverb on kicks? I'll have to try that one.
top guy, whats a great limiter for topdown mixing any ideas, something that you can drive hard into
Are you using reaper now?
crazy to see him use Reaper after all these years haha
Instead of using a clip plugin, could you use a distressor?
Seems like step 1 is to record an amazing sounding kick lol
What daw is that? Never seen that interface before.
Reaper with custom skin Smooth 6
No Cubase? Are you prefer if Reaper these days?
Too bad I don’t use buses
I’m still using GarageBand
which drum is used? so fat and big!!! wow
3 ways to get a HuGE WHAT ??!? oh nevermind..
это охуенный туториал
For that first kick sound, you are cutting the frequency already lacking midrange.
Apparently that's a popular thing

Thanks for your feedback, what other eq techniques do you use with drums?
@@joeymusic Trust me I am not knocking you. I was just using my ears and speaking my mind as I heard it. The end results still turned out pretty good.
Thanks! Have you seen more than one of our videos? If so, which one was your favorite?
Fake video joey mix only with cubase 6 xD
Fake news lol. Welcome to reaper town.
