I know we always talk about "consent" esp when it's between strangers, but what I love most about the subject matter of this song is it's more focused on couples/marital consent, which is often overlooked and downplayed mainly because they're in a "relationship" and people think it's an automatic consent. Them talking about consent in an industry that is notorious for being sexist and disrespectful esp towards women? Oh they're so MOTHERS 👌
Whoever was behind this MV, I want to give them a big hug and give them all things in the world. EVERY art museum you go to, you see the signs "DO NOT TOUCH." So having the girls reinterpret famous pieces of art as they're singing about consent and not touching them until they say it's okay is *chefs kiss*
One of most visually stunning MVs ever particularly the human subjects. Jammed full classic art "Masterpiece" references so cool- Fragonard (The Swing), Klimt (Bloch-Bauer (Sana in gold), The Virgin (Momo in blue, then all three with heads together)) Botticelli (Three Graces, Birth of Venus)
10:32 exactly!!! like the song says "yes, you can watch me, if you love me, but you can't touch me, if you love me" so it's kinda like: if you love me respect me.. just because you are in a relationship doens't mean that you don't need consent anymore 13:24 it's them showing 'how to'.. they are about to kiss and stop so momo say "hold your impulses", like stop and wait if the other is ok/ready with this too
@@defnotsmoj6760 If it were part of the encore (or something not that serious), then this may be possible (like they did with Nayeon's 'Pop!' during a fansign)..but as a part of the actual concert, I don't think so, since you'll basically be relegating the other 6 members of TWICE as "backup dancers", plus the fact that the other 6 need to learn the entire choreography as well.
I'm obsessed with this. As someone who loves art, I instantly recognized all the paintings that they were re-creating & I ADORE them for it. The last time I saw classical paintings recreated in a music video was with Enya's 'Caribbean Blue' (I highly rec her btw). I actually saw this for the first time with you (this reaction is how I saw the m/v). Instant addition to my playlist, especially with the song. I've been celebrating the fact that our girls from Loona are finally all free, and revisiting their earlier mvs/music - a new favorite of mine is YeoJin's 'Kiss Later' which is also about consent & has a cutesy concept. So it seems perfect that 'Do not Touch' just dropped. I saw images on Twitter, but even with loving Twice - I didn't recognize them at first. They look so grown up here! Amazing.
Red Velvet also had classical art paintings as inspirations in their "Feel My Rhythm" MV - in fact they also used Fragonard's "The Swing" as part inspiration but I think MiSaMo effect was better.

Something I really love about MiSaMo getting the spotlight like this, is that we finally get to see Just them and the skills they have. Obviously you can tell that they're good singers and performers when they're with Twice too, but they have to split their lines with 6 other people in those songs. Sana's first lines blew me away, because I know she can sing well, but her voice is so pretty here - like, her tone is so pretty - and I really wasn't prepared for that. I think it might be like a VIVIZ situation, where there's more "room" in the song, so they can "stretch" and really show their full potentials. Plus, I think it might be good that the song is in Japanese, because it adds another layer of "comfort" for them, and they can just be even more "unfiltered" because it's their native language. When we get to the period of time called "After Twice", I really hope MiSaMo stick together, and I would follow them, even if they go back to Japan. Just. Amazing.
MOMO SANA BACK TO BACK, MINA, MINAAAA🔥🔥🔥 I LITERALLY HAVE NO WORDS FOR MISAMO ANYMORE😶🤯😵😵💫 Can you imagine twice comeback with this type of concept? I Can't😵💫
best reaction there is! I TRULY appreciate how you expounded consent. Aside from the perfection of the MV, I personally love how empowering the message of MISAMO's song
In the final section, Sana would be gustav klimt but the background is curious as it reminds me of something else, Mina is fragonard mixed with monet and Momo is van gogh.
This is by far the best reaction video I have watched about this music video (my first time to come across your content tbh). I agree with you pointing out first about CONSENT the moment you saw it and had my mouth hung open almost the entire time watching it. 😂 It was truly a MASTERPIECE! 🙌
Usually when I watch reaction vids, I only just watch the MV or videos they're reacting too but your reaction to this is so fun to watch. Jaw dropping performance by MiSaMo indeed.
I very much agree with you. It was very beautiful, delicate and direct how it was executed, comparing them to art that, even though they are beautiful, you cannot touch them....
we all talk a lot about momo being a top tier dancer but let's talk about how mina and sana can keep up with her and also provide high caliber dancing skills as showcased in this choreo
Never thought I’d use my humanities and art history on a kpop mv lmao but what else am I expecting after skz referenced creation of Adam in gods menu! Anyways the paintings that I specifically saw referenced were the birth of Venus by Botticelli, three graces also by Botticelli, and the swing by Fragonard and then the gold swirls reminded me a lot of the embrace by Klimt as it has the patterns on her dress and the gold swirl background. I’ve probably missed a couple references but those are the ones I caught!
It feels like I’m watching myself react to it! Hahahaha! I’m pretty sure I was also slack jawed when I first watched the video. I love the lyrics and I fell even more in love with Mina
As a huge fan of hip hop and knowing the cadence and flow that needs to go into it as well as the delivery I can say that I truly believe Momo is the best rapper in twice
Thanks for breaking it down because I don’t get that consent message from watching/listening to the song. It’s hard for me to understand the meaning behind lyrics of a song. I always have to look up the meaning on what the artist wanted to say with it. 😅 I am a bit slow lol. Another fire video! 😊
@@uzuzlas4676 I usually listen to the melody before focusing on lyrics. Even then I don’t really go into trying to figure out the meaning of the song 🤣. Idk unless it’s Taylor swift but even then I’m like 🧐🐸
So, assuming the subtitles are an accurate translation, I think the song's message is pretty cool in that it not only is about the idea that concept (in terms of relations and intimacy) is strictly affirmative consent, the lyrics are more or less gender neutral and sexuality neutral and the message thus works every way without assuming or implying the speaker or listener's gender. Everything is more or less metaphorical and thus doesn't objectify the person (i.e. it doesn't comment about the person's body, appearance, clothing, etc).
I appreciate that you explain the songs. I always seem to have difficulties understanding songs. I am beginning to listen to their music. Have been watching their reality shows and UA-cam fan compilations and now begin really listening to their songs. Also, is the song targeted to just fans and partners or also including problems that many female celebrities have to deal with?
I'm not sure if you've already reacted to it but since I can't find it I figured I would ask but could you react to go hard by them (twice) it's honestly my favourite song and it's so underrated
@@_woblyleg_6857 they prob won't comment on that and just put it up for interpretation, but there's literally no reason why they had to be this close 😭
I think Sana dress is probably a reference to Gustav Klimt's "The Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer" , Momo follows with Van Gogh's "Starry Night" (maybe) and there's definitely an homage to Botticelli's "The birth of venus" which in itself is such a messy story, I hope somebody is going really deep with their interpretation of this MV😂 there is definitely more references like the Three Muses but I am not sure which version it is. I feel like Mina's "holey" hat might also be a reference to a painting, but it's also a very good pun😅
Oh, and Mina on the swing is probably a reinterpretation of "The Happy Accidents of The Swing" by Fragonard, but without the voyeur looking up her skirt
I spotted references and themes from the following: ▪The Birth of Venus - Sandro Bottecelli ▪The Starry Night - Vincent Van Gogh ▪Portrait of Emilie Flöge - Gustav Klimt ▪Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer (The Lady In Gold) - Gustav Klimt ▪Primavera - Botticelli (Les trois graces - shown in video) ▪The Swing (The Happy Accidents) - Jean Honore-Fragonard ▪Vertiefte Regung (Deepened Impulse) - Wassily Kadinsky ▪Grande Odalisque - Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres ▪La Velata - Raphael
I think JYP (and Kpop in general) has been going backwards in terms of the actual songwriting for a while, everything sounds like european eurovision music, and when you watch who wrote the songs you see ah.. yes.. they are european eurovision songwriters in many cases. I dont like that kind of music :D So I was happily surprised when I listened to this song, cause it sounded like the old ways of musicwriting from asia somehow.
