Apple Maps vs Google Maps | August 2022

- Google was pioneer on street maps and navigation. Apple was using Google Maps on its iPhone until 2012. Apple introduced its own map app but it failed. The map information was incorrect, poor navigation and voice prompts. That brought Google a head on maps. Apple then started from ground zero mapping every street with lots of detail around the world. Apple kept improving its maps and navigation every year. And now they have very clean, rich details and better navigation. I am comparing both Apple and Google maps side by side. Google maps have lots of data but lacking rich details of buildings, green area and street visualization.
I didn’t have two phone to record same route using Apple maps and Google maps at the same time. I recorded the route once using Apple maps and then came back and used Google maps. Both maps are little off in some areas but they catch up later.
The navigation is at Kitchener Ontario Canada.

Apple Maps has surpassed Google as far as navigation is concerned. Their uncluttered & easy to follow user interface and natural way of telling you directions (For example, "Go past this stop light and take a right at the next one", instead of Google's "In 1,000ft, take a right" is just so much nicer. Plus, the Siri and Apple Watch integration is really helpful as well.
Google still has the better points of interest database with reviews, so I still keep Google Maps around for browsing that, but when it is time to navigate, Apple Maps all the way.
i hope they respect all country like google not some of country ( not available in kuwait ) and i spend 10 years contact apple for apple map in kuwait they ignore me
Google reviews used to be mostly fake, beware of theirs reviews !!
Apple takes me to the incorrect location every time. I uninstalled and downloaded google maps
I found that too… once it took me to the back street of a plaza
Apple Maps, best in USA. Rest of the world, Google Maps.
So I do a lot of long distance journeys on a daily basis.
I’ve used both google and Apple Maps
Apple Maps is simplistic and just does what it says on the tin.
But I prefer using google maps as I can get a lot in a quick glance, if my eta is longer with looking at the ETA - Green on time, orange light traffic and Red traffic. I get a feeling of knowing what’s ahead of me without even getting there whilst Apple Maps doesn’t say this. It’s just written in grey and would only find out if I zoom out but to do that I’d need interact with device whilst driving.
Also find that Apple Maps does not match the exact position of my vehicle which 1 I find really annoying and 2. If there are multiple right turns, it’s harder to judge if I’ve reached the 4th turn, 5th turn or have i passed it and gone towards 6th turn as car tends to be displaced slightly ahead compared to my actual potion which is something I don’t get with Google maps
Also, with Google maps having more users compared to Apple Maps, more people
Reports road obstructions or best one, mobile speed cameras. That’s probably the best thing about it. Never seen one reported on Apple Maps so that’s another go to reason for Google.
I find apple tries to please the users with these visually appealing designs but the actual use for drivers focused on driving, reaching there destination on time and being able to get the most informations in a quick glance is missing from Apple Maps.
Hence why I still continue using Google maps over apple and have domes so for over 10 years and unless Apple make a serious update, dont see this changing anytime soon.
Thanks for your detail observation… appreciate your effort writing ✍🏻 it
I like Apple's approach of oversimplifying navigation especially at roundabouts and intersections. The lane assist is spot on and better than Google! Also, I like how it only shows what the user needs to see while navigating. Like it shows which road you're on at the bottom and does not show every other street which has nothing to do with navigation. Lastly, the voice commands in Apple Maps is more intuitive.
For Google Maps, I like its approach of showing traffic and incidents on roads and the ETA with different is really helpful at a glance. More buttons on screen is helpful in situations where you're driving but you need to find gas stations - it's just a tap away. What really gets on my nerves though is the fact that Google maps is smoother on iPhones than even on Pixels and other Androids in general. I mean what the hell!
Thanks for the detailed analysis
Next : Waze vs Apple Maps 🙏
Good suggestions
I love Apple’s UI. Simple, clean and very easy to follow. Google’s UI is very good too but it looks old, like in early 2010s.
I have same opinion… I use Apple Maps all the time now
I like that Google maps on highways shows u how many lanes and exit lane coming up by showing few arrows signifying the lanes and the exit lane , apple maps just shows 1 lane on the hwy, as well not updated businesses for addresses keeps me going back to google maps for reliability, but Apple Maps is looking great, hopefully will get another update soon for more greater refinements
As well traffic conditions are much more accurate on Google maps, at times Apple Maps doesn’t know where the traffic jam is and where it starts and the entire back up length
i Love apple maps

Google design is like they have thrown some floating buttons all over.
The roads are not that clearly visible compared to apple.
What is that weird movements of apple? Can you disable?
Can you mention that at what time in the video that movement is coming? Because these videos were not recorded at the same time there was a delay in each of them by sitting at the intersection in one of the recording while the others recording didn’t have that stop so I copped that section from the video.
@@RizwanKiyan1 2:14 starting
@@mapsandnavigation433 it could be a video rendering issue. The maps navigation sometimes jitters when lots of background operations are going on or phone becomes hot.
@@RizwanKiyan1 no, is nothing wrong but the way the app I meant to show the route I think. Compare it side by side with Google or others , it bends strange, I don't know if that benefits the human eye perceiving better like that or not.
google international but apple whay not care about small coutry its available only for some country
That is true
I use Apple Maps and it good
How
I really want Apple 🍎 maps to be my only app I use but I have to unfortunately hang on to Google Maps because Apple doesn't allow us to download off line maps when cell service is not available please 🙏 Apple fix this. Help a brother out. I hate the app redundancy but I still need Google because Apple hasn't put the energy into maps to have this feature.
@apple
Thanks. I like Apple Maps too. It’s clean, no ads. Sometimes the business location on map is not correct. I sent request to update the location on map several times and they have corrected it. Other than that it is my everyday navigation application.
You can now do offline maps with Apple Maps

I'm getting a new IPhone 14 Pro Max tomorrow (1/21/2023).
Congratulations
Google maps is bad it goes the slower ways but apple maps goes fastest route
I like Apple Maps.
Apple’s maps is more specific and accurate
I use Apple Maps almost 99% of the times
Apple maps is better
I use Apple Maps all the time
Google maps are more realistic
They have more data… Apple maps have buildings in a nicely 3D format
I prefer Apple Maps bcs of the design I like it more and love the way it looks last night we got reports feature in my country so I’m exited even more. But seems like no one is using it. So I hate that.
But I didn’t expect to watch entire drive looking at this video like wow.
@@tikycz8261 I have been using Apple maps for a long time. They were really bad in 2012 but they improved year after year. Apple maps are clean, clear and realistic buildings structures.
