Die Firma Moß setzt für die Arbeiten einen Hitachi Kiesel Multi Demolition KMD 400 Bagger mit Long Reach Ausleger ein, unterstützt von einem Hitachi Zaxis 135US Minibagger und Hitachi Zaxis 280, außerdem ist ein Caterpillar 336F von CAT-Zeppelin Mietpark im Einsatz. Der Aushub wird auf LKW von G. Hirsch Transporte verladen und abtransportiert.

There isn't only reach in question,there is boom and arm thicknes that also you got in mind too. On that arm (that i suppose is wider than 260 mm) you can attach higher capacity bucket,so you can have more efficient machine .

I don't understand why they don't have movable counterweights for such designs. If room exists for the counterweight to move out 1m+ from the rear of the machine, such function should be added. When switched on, as the boom extends away from the machine the counterweight should automatically move out as well. The long reach units always suffer reduced capacity and are still 'tippy' with a good operator. That can't be very comfortable as the machine rocks around.

The retainingwalls are put in place first, than the pit is being excavated.This is safer for the workers and surrounding buildings.

Wouldn't bulldozers be more efficient at moving such large amounts of material?

I d say the costs for undercarriage and fuel for a bulldozer are far to high, to compete with an excavator in that kind of operation. In addition an excavator is much more flexible, it can lift things, do trechning work, grading in small spots, back fill material behind formwork, use a hydraulik breaker or what ever. In Austria i ve never seen a bulldozer on this type of work. Just on Dumpside or Highway Building or so.
