In high school my friends and I took a weekend hiking trip to pictured rocks as an “anti-prom” in early spring. Lots of snow still on the ground, but we had a great time. Later I did a quick trip in late December as my first winter backpacking experience. I remember wearing my dad’s hand me down Woolrich snowsuit from the 80s to stay warm when making camp and waking up to re-boil the water in the hot water bottles in the middle of the night. The wind can get whipping up there, and the way the lake reacts to the wind and cold is a sight to behold. Practical mountains of ice on the shore of the lake. A great place to hike!
Wow, sounds like you've had some great trips up there! I've definitely had a trip or two where having hot water bottles was a must to stay warm. Pictured Rock's is pretty spectacular!
The delivery time on the Superior is awefull. I ordered in september, still havent got my gift for my son. It was supposed to be an xmas christmas present
Quality is worth waiting for! But I get it, tough when you were expecting it to be a Christmas present. Hopefully it comes soon and your son can enjoy!
Juice, do you have enough time with the Gore R7 ShakeDry Trail jacket to do an in-depth review? Have you ever experienced wetting out, do you miss the pit zips, would you buy it again or look into other options? Thanks!
Hey Richard, I'm not sure if have had a chance but I did do a video on the R7 ua-cam.com/video/9F8WgAhbsfo/v-deo.html. To answer your questions, it has never wetted out in 2 years, I have not missed the pit zips, and I would 100% buy again. There still is not a better rain jacket on the market in my opinion.
Was looking forward to this one, Ajay…and it did not disappoint!! Amazing views, great music, and even a bit of asmr with the rain and coffee! Just great!🌿
Thanks! It was a great hike for sure! I put links to all my gear in the description of the video but here's the one for the Shake Dry jacket amzn.to/3bYXZil.
It's honestly the best pack I've ever owned. Really not much at all I would change. The only thing for me at least is that I would like the body of the pack to be maybe 2 inches wider because it's a little narrow compared to other pack's I've used. Besides that, its super lightweight, functional, and rides like a dream. I'm not sure there's a better pack out there IMO.
I grew up in southern MI but didn't make it til Pictured Rocks until I was 36! What a beautiful place.
It's a fantastic place!
"Don't cross the streams." Well done.
Haha, it was pretty cool to see. I'm definitely bringing a rod next time I'm at Pictured Rocks!
There she goes!!!! Love that lake!
Such a great area!

Thanks Barb! You and John should definitely check it out sometime! Most of the great spots we went to are just a short walk from a parking lot.

Looks like a great hike buddy! Quick question for you, where'd you pick up your shake dry jacket?

How you liking the Senchi? just used mine last weekend in Joshua Tree. Blown away at how warm that thing is!
It's really solid so far!
Can you tell me how you are feeling about your backpack ? Anything you're really liking, not liking ?
