There should be a TV show for that legion. 400 years can't be covered in a movie. They could literally do a season for every 25 years or major campaign or even battle they were involved in.
HBO should reignite their Roman history buffs after they cancelled Rome back in the 2000s. Imagine if they used the same funding as GoT, we’d have a new binge worthy show
@@cjtdup5395Yeah just like Games of Thrones where they constantly cut corners and removed multiple battles and duels from the books so the show would be cheaper to produce and their profits would be higher ☠️ So tired of the delusional people who refuse to acknowledge that HBO is literally known for cutting corners and doing the bare minimum. Just like they’re doing with House of the Dragon now by rushing through the story and even blatantly changing it to make it cheaper to produce. HBO should never be the standard, it’s like you people forget why they cancelled Rome. Because that company is known for refusing to invest a significant budget in to a project. They’d rather cut corners and profit anyhow off a popular title. Similar to Disney with Marvel in the last 5 years.
@@cjtdup5395 If HBO made a Hannibal series, the battle of Carrhae would be reduced to a 10 second cut scene where we see one side charging in to battle and suddenly it’s a black screen followed by characters talking about who won the battle. Awesome videos! Have seen some of them now and only have one wish.. For me all understanding of history and events starts with timeline. Hey Filaxim Hostoria, nice video. Really helps me learning more about the romans besides the Books I read Can I ask for a video? Could you pls make a video about the 2. Legion?
Regarding the numerical use of XIIII over XIV. There's numerous examples of the the former usage. In the Israel Museum one can see a 90 CE Latin tablet inscription of a Roman soldier being honorably discharged, within it a clear example of 'VIIII' is being used.
Hi there - sorry for the silly question, but the banner in the opening has 'XIIII' on it for 14. From what I vaguely recall of Roman numeral rules, we can't have more than 3 of the same symbol in a row, so 14 would be XIV wouldn't it? If XIIII is a valid historical usage, please let me know!
XIIII is totally correct. Romans used both additive (IIII) and subtractive (IV). In middle ages IIII was even prefered to IV, especially on clocks (because of symetry and IV resembling the name of pagan god Iupiter).
The rule you quote is actually a more modern convention. It was common during this period (ca. 100 BC to 200 AD) to use IIII (versus IV) when indicating the number 4. Two examples of which I am certain is IIII (4) and XIIII (14). 90% of my knowledge of the Roman Empire is directly related to the various legions and of these two numbers, I am certain. I have no idea as to why it was done.
well this really surprised me; for some reason i was 100% sure that caesar's tenth was his best. the weird thing is i read and watched a lot on caesar's campaigns and still was convinced that the tenth was the legendary one. how could i have made such a mistake? super confused at this point. edit: after watching video, it all makes sense to me.
