You always have to keep in mind that it dries transparent. So while it looks like it lightens the color you use in reality it will dry and turn back to the original color except be more transparent.
Well, not all of the time. I have certainly used all types of acrylic additives and if you don't add a little pigment to the mix, you run the risk of the color's opacity slightly lightened. Golden and Liquidtex have transparency ratings for the opacity changes as it relates to their polymers on their website.
I agree with so many of the other comments left from people. I have spent way to much time looking into explanations of the different products then I finally watch your great video explaining so much!!! Thank you!
Thanks for a very clear, easily understood explanation and demo of the gel mediums and their use! Interesting that the color seems little changed, only the texture is affected.
Thanks Very Much for the visuals! This helped a Lot, and it all makes much more sense now - with actually Seeing them in action, versus just reading their labels at the store. ;)
Thank you so much for the very simple, yet specific explanation regarding each medium purpose! Unfortunately I checked out several video's before your's. Not only did most of them suck, they also gave inaccurate instructions on how to use a majority of the mediums. Thanks again and Happy Holidays! 👣
I usually paint either oils but decided to try acrylics. I hated how fast they dried though. I watched some videos on UA-cam on how to slow down the drying time and people recommended this gel. I thought it would make the acrylic paint act more like oil. While it helped a little. I had to keep adding more and more gel. I wish I had watched your video. You explained it very well. I paint a lot of mountains and tree's with oil paint. Can I use this with oil? I know you can't add acrylic over oil but you can add oil over acrylic.
Hi, thank you ! Do you think the gel can hold on a textile? Like a T-shirt to create letters with gel and have a 3D text that can be put on a wash machine?
Great tutorial! Thank you I just want to ask you that which acrylic paint is best for abstract painting? Acrylic heavy body or fluid? And which medium is best ?
Thank you for the informative and concise explanation! If one adds enough soft gel to heavy body paint, does it help add to translucency? I'm trying to glaze layers and considering this method. Thanks in advance.
I am Detour I learned a lot about the differences between acrylic gels and mediums from your video. Looking forward to checking out your other videos 👍
S@#t fire man...this is the 5th video ive watched and still dont know what its used for! Pretty please with sugar on top please say in simplest of terms, what advantage is there of using matte medium as opposed to not. What does it do besides increasing the amount of paint whilst fading the colors? Do you paint a canvas with the medium before actually painting on top or add to the paint?
scoot mcgoot Thank of it as adding a different texture based on the type of gel you use. You don’t need it at all. It’s only if you want that look on your painting. It’s almost like a multi-purpose substance that you can do a lot of different things with. That is why there’s not really a clear-cut video of what it is used for because you can do so many things with it.
@@iamdetourhmm okay! Basically we can call it a POLYGON ART. if still you didn't get it than please visit my Art page on Instagram @detailedink. there i have make one Polygon art painting on black canvas. i found lots of difficulty while doing that painting so i though to use Acrylic mediums but i m confuse.
@@dhruvishapatel7476 for something like that, I would suggest fluid acrylics because the fluid acrylics are easy to move around. that style has a lot of straight lines to masking tape is involved. fluid acrylics work great with masking tape
@@iamdetourokay, but generally i don't use tape. i directly do lines. And ya one more question i have! my color have lots of transparency so i have to coat one block twice or trice time so in that case this fluid Medium will help?
“A gel is basically...a clear, acrylic paint.” THANK YOU. I finally get it.
No problem!
😁 yep
Actually it’s white until dried. Gel is also thicker than standard acrylic medium
Thank you for this straightforward clear info! It’s surprising how difficult this has been to find 🙏
Damn this has the most clear explanation to all the vids I watched.
Thanks! I'm glad it's helping.
This is probably the best explanation of gells I've ever seen!
Thanks for sharing 🙏😊
Thank you so much!! Now I understand the difference! You are a natural teacher!❤
The best "simple made" explanation : this pedagogy ! Thanks a lot !

Cheap paint lightens in a medium
I recently got hip to use gels as a thickening agent for acrylic paint to make it behave more like an oil paint. This video was really helpful!✨
They are great!

You did NOT do that to a vintage Donny Osmond album! My first love!
Kathy Coda Barnett No worries. This was all from the trash bin at the record store that has scratched records.
I subbed today. That record, think when the medium dries you can pull the scratches out?
Thank you!!! Very clear explanation.
No problem!
Gonna try to use some gel! I'd like more texture. thnx
That's whats up! it gives great texture.
Thank you! Right to the point. I appreciate you. Subbed now.hope u have a great day!

Thanks for the info, it was great. Can I also use a brush or is a knife the tool to use.
Those Golden brand gels are $25 each for the smallest container here in Canada at the arts & crafts store, not cheap stuff.
Thanks! This was a great help!
Thank you for that 😊

@@iamdetour good deal. Thanks for your reply. Im looking for some advice to help me in my acrylic painting. My backgrounds become so sticky and smudgy
Could I, theoretically, add some Floetrol to the soft gloss gel to the same consistency of my other paints and make a clear layer in an acrylic pour?

I was wondering that too!! haha
hi if i use these gel medium it will only change the texture or it will increase the time of drying also?
it should take about the same time to dry. it just depends on how thick you apply it.
very clear and concise! thank you!
this is good video
What gel do I use if I need to increase my paint please.
You can use any gel medium but they have different finishes and viscosity.
