Wow, I just had flashbacks. I went to UGA from 1980 until 82 when I transferred to GA Tech. Sure brings back some fond memories...living at River Place, O'Malleys deck, Sanford Stadium packed in the student section like sardines sweating bullets in September watching Herschel rule the field.
I was there in 1980 when James Brown sang this on the sidelines while we whipped Texas A&M 42-0. I seem to remember him wearing a red cowboy hat. Woof!
PWD, It's from 1976. The "Junkyard Dawg" defense was coined during the '75 season from a line in Jim Croce's famous hit, "Bad, bad Leroy Brown." James Brown's song was released later that year and began to receive airplane beginning in 1976. Plus, I was at that game (my first GA-FLA tilt) and remember how, being down at the half 27-13, I really wasn't in any mood to hear James Brown. It turned out well as we won going away in the 2nd half 41-27. Go Dawgs!
Good to see you back Southern. Love the heat you show. Never seen that JB Falcon’s 45. Nice. He did the Georgia Bulldog song too. Check it out . Next time you are back at old old stomping grounds, tell Vic Blends hi for me.
My dad gave me that 45 record and I played it over and over when I was 6 or 7. I remember seeming him perform live facing the North stand with dad. An older boy sitting below us asked his dad who that man was. I knew. He is from Toccoa.
Great video! I remember chanting this at the game and then going to Poss' for dinner after the game (with half the crowd, it seemed-lol.) Georga has a great football heritage beyond compare. Its Sept 1st-Georgia vs Oklahoma St today. Let the Big Dawg Eat!
This had to be before 1976 because I was there and we didn't perform with James Brown in Jacksonville in 76, He performed in Sanford Stadium in 1977 during a pre-game.
Does anybody know when this video was taken? I was in the Redcoat Band 1978-82 and we did a show with James Brown. I wonder if this was from one of those shows?
He may have performed it at Ga Fla but he also performed it in Sanford Stadium and this was in Sanford Stadium complete with the tracks beyond the East end zone. East end zone was not closed in until 1980.
Yeah, it clearly says "Gator Bowl" in the endzone. Which underlines my position that, "how can a game be 'neutral' in the state of Florida when it was actually played in the f-ing Gator Bowl!?" Neither team would have 20 game win streaks if it was home and home.
You couldn't be more wrong. Georgia has twelve SECCs, tech had something like five, counting one or two wartime claims when almost nobody else fielded a real team ('44), or a team at all ('43).
My years of being a Redcoat were the absolute best...performing with James Brown-priceless! Go Dawgs!

Dear fans of other football teams... Win all the games you want. Did James Brown write a song for you? Perform it at halftime? Go DAWGS!
John Major correct!!! Go Dawgs

It was Nov. 5, 1977. I have his autograph on a ticket stub.
Wow

I watched the James Brown half-time show from the bridge and everybody was screaming! So great! Thanks for posting this video
I was there! I’d forgotten!
After watching the Notre Dame game tonight welcome back junkyard Dawgs
RIP Coach Dooley...💔
I had forgotten about this song
My first UGA game was vs Vandy, homecoming in '76 and JB performed.....

Great memories! 1977 Ga-Fla in Jax - my freshman year as a Redcoat - HBTD (HOW BOUT THEM DAWGS)

Judging from the uniform styles it is from 1976. Alabama if i'm not mistaken.
I remember this. Big game today. Go Dawgs!
The junkyard dawgs are back!!!!!!

They are showing other games in the video. I was there at UGA for the performance.
Man, I wish I was alive then. Go Dawgs!
Priceless. I'm floored...
The greatest combination ever the godfather of soul and the greatest team
WOW! THANKS!!!
...two of the greats.
R.I.P. James Brown🙏 GOOOOOO DAWGS SICKEM WOOF WOOF WOOF 🟥 ⬛ 🟥⬛
Today I heard the sad news that the man who wrote this song, Happy Howard Williamson, has passed away.
Does anybody know when this video was taken? I was in the Redcoat Band 1978-82 and we did a show with James Brown. I wonder if this was from one of those shows?
Wikipedia says that it was at the Gator Bowl during halftime of a Florida-Georgia game....
He may have performed it at Ga Fla but he also performed it in Sanford Stadium and this was in Sanford Stadium complete with the tracks beyond the East end zone. East end zone was not closed in until 1980.
The action clips were from many games.
@@billwood3884 Correct- I saw both as a kid. He also got up with the cheerleaders in front of the student section a few times.
This is from when we OWNED Florida. It'll come again.
You were right 👍
That vid was from Sanford, not the Gator Bowl.
Hahaha dude we need to have a remix. Like "Mark Richt's Junkyard Dawgs". Maybe a hip hop version. Could be sung by T.I.
Who shot this? This looks like UGa marching band film I shot- but probably not.
@ytpro27 we actually have 2 national championships in football.
@paulwesterdawg
Yeah. I don't see how people are saying this is Sanford or Kentucky when it says Gator Bowl in the endzone. LOL
@Chloe Knott Well?
And Erk, too, for that matter.
yeah, you can see "Gator Bowl" in the endzone

wow!! be easy
In a "Tech" world, is 5 more than 12???
Yeah, they have nothing left but the Land of Make Believe.
The 11 people who gave this a thumb's down must be Democrats.
Holy crap... It's been that long since UGA was actually better than Florida ????
BTW.... Georgia Tech still holds more SEC titles than UGA does.
AtlantaBarlow this aged poorly

@@stetsonisnumerouno1022 It's also completely false.
