There is actually a widespread theory among Italian viewers that Lucia's journey to Sicily is all a dream, like a fever dream she needs to get through to finally overcome her grief and accept her daughter. This is supported by the fact that the Sicily scenes feel a bit weird and unrealistic compared to the extreme realism of the Vermiglio scenes: - First, the priest and the woman in Sicily are able to speak Italian to her without a hint of Sicilian, which is possible but would be an exception at the time. The film went to great lengths to have everyone speak either the local dialect or Italian in Vermiglio depending on the specific context, but they're now suddenly inaccurate with languages? - Lucia finally gets Pietro's long-awaited letters and it feels too much like a wish come true. And why would the priest have Pietro's letters? - A young woman from a remote village in the far north of Italy who can't even speak proper Italian, and who's never left her village, would never have traveled to Sicily *alone* in the post-War chaos. It's just unrealistic. - And finally, the most telling hint: in the credits, Pietro's wife is credited as "woman in the Sicilian dream".
9:31 the woman tells Lucia she's lucky because she has children despite being a young widow. She wasn't comparing herself to Lucia, just commenting on Lucia's status.
Oh my God hell has frozen over. Joseph has found a kid cute in a movie?!! I might have to check on this phone just to see the cute kid that Joseph approves of LOL😂
A very gentle review of what seems to be a women centric story. Best notes, were when a female character is thought to be, 'conflicted' and yet, not bleak, it ends well and strong😊
Acquired by Janus/Sideshow ... when you doing the annual Venice Film festival video? Love to hear Nicks take on what he watched over including the French in competition films
Great job guys. I'm gonna wait for this one now. You made it sound interesting. Sad and bleek...but a lil funny at times. All the sweet parts. 😌😔❤ I wanna ck it out now.
Vermiglio is a town in a part of Italy that untill 1919 was under the Austro Hungarian and most kids under Austria Hungary had to go to school up to 5th grade but most of southern Italy’s kids were illiterate.
