I don't understand why dowager ALWAYS brings Jingren Empress up. Ruyi was nothing but kind to Dowager despite her trying to make Ruyi commit suicide and locking her up repeatedly. Smh
I also don't understand why the Emperor always expected Ruyi to be glad to see him after he continually suspected, accused, and punished her based on what a jealous harem member said. And despite the disrespect he gave her while singing the praises of Fuca empress...especially knowing what all she did to Ruyi. Smh
I think it's because the emperor values obedience and surrender more than feelings. Ruyi regards the emperor as her husband, but for the emperor, the first thing that matters is surrender, and then maybe feelings.
Honestly, I feel like in a way the emperor just was hoping that ruyi still loved him after all the bull everyone around him put her through. I'm going to be honest, I would almost feel as bad for the emperor if it wasn't for him choosing to be negligent on a whim forcing Ruyi always have to think of ways to rise above him as a challenge instead of him aiding her as a partner. He just came in and solved problems, not resolve the issue. Ruyi deserved better. Im just glad Ling gets her just desserts.
Well 1 he was the emperor who is assumed to be right in everything he does and cannot be questioned. 2. In chinses culture I believe women are supposed to be submissive and never question their male family members though maybe a brother but certain no a father or husband which they technically belonged to as property. And the would be even more so if your husband was emperor. Emperors were supposed to be the supreme moral authority, father of their people and a god type figure. That's why she looses it later when she feels he's not acting morally .....ahem up to the position but that comes later.
in the original novel Cininggong Palace (where Dowager Empress Chongqing ordered everyone to relocate for their reputations' sakes) became as silent as a mausoleum and a literal freezer when Wei Yan'wan uttered the taboo of Qianlong's birth secret (@4:06-@4:10)

(Qianlong Emperor's parentage is the stuff of legends, chiefly because Qing Dynasty did not have objectively reliable records, and any extant records are inconsistent at most; unlike Korea who had their "Annals of the Joseon Dynasty")
also Wei Yan'wan did not just only insult Chongqing, she also inadvertently insulted Dowager Concubine Li Jin'gui as well
