- Australia's Keegan Palmer scored not one but two brilliantly executed performances in the men's park skateboarding finals to land him gold and Australia's first ever Olympic gold medal in skateboarding. Pedro Barros of Brazil showed his strut around the skateboard park by scoring an impressive 86.14 in his first run to clinch silver. Cory Juneau from the USA lands a bronze with his best score of 84.13.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games took place in Japan, from July 23, 2021 to August 8, 2021.
How cool is it that everybody just cheer for each other! Like 1st place doesn't even matter really, they're all just having a great time. Kinda heartwarming

That's how skateboarding is. If you're sitting in 2nd, the person cheering loudest will probably be the one in 1st.
These guys know each other and practice/compete together fairly often.
I love that the new sports added like rock climbing and skateboarding are some of the only sports in the summer where you see such companionship between the competitors.
Thi. Many 'core' skaters feel skateboarding doesn't belong in the Olympics, but IMO skateboarding embodies the OG Olympic virtues of athleticism and fraternity. The women's skating in particular was a welcome display of sportsmanship and mutual respect, especially at a time when lots of people around the world would rather kick each other's heads in than say hi.

Being a skateboarder you want everyone to win. Something no other sport has. I cheered for everyone.

I’m new to skateboarding but I know a few names of tricks, I was so confused when he called a front crook a front nose slide or are they the actual same thing?
Amazing! I started when Thrasher mag still had News paper pages. To see skating going from “Skate dork”, get a ticket or arrested, to skate parks in every town and the Olympics?! Wow, truly historic.
Sad to think that folks watching Olympic level skateboarding will never understand the true level of difficulty involved, skateboard as a sport is criminally under appreciated
It happens with every sport, actually. We don't know a single person specialized in every single sport to say which is more difficult. You can only say skate is under appreciating because you know something, but what about other sports?
I can't imagine the pressure for Cory Juneau, the first ever Olympic final run for his beloved sport, he had the world watching to prove this sport belonged in the Olympics, and he delivered. Much respect from the UK To all the athletes!
The Skateboarding events in Tokyo were epic! Hope we get a DVD release of Tokyo 2020, love to watch all the highlights including the BMX and Surfing events which I loved so much!

When I stated skateboarding I had to cut a fish to a shape of a normal board cause there was no boards to buy in Poland. Everyone of those guys is a winner for me. Skateboarding was never a competition for me it's a way of life.
@ Yes, what you are talking about is a competition but for the 99% of the rest, this thing is a lifestyle. You can only know that if you ever rode a skateboard. When you start, you do not think about going pro or becoming a world champion - you just love it and everything that comes with it. You clearly never had that feeling....
skateboard competitions are less then 10% of what skateboard really is. even if you go for 30 competitions a year, you still have 330 days of pure fun

The sportsmanship in Skateboard is really good tho, I remember watching people skate and when they do insane stunts people were like cheering on them, or you finally did that stunt you've been trying. Its a very nice environment of sport

Skating is such a loving sport where all the country participants hug and cheer for eachother..... Skating is all one love win or lose.. obvs they wanna win but theyre just happy theyre even being there having a blast doing what they love doing there whole lives But now on a olympic level

cory juneau did better than third, for sure. those first 2 runs were incredible, dripping style on everybody else.

You definitely can. Everyone can. You just never give up. A part of skateboarding is falling and being in pain, but when you fall you ALWAYS get back up.
maybe not at this level, but get some nice big soft wheels, something around 54mm and at least an 8 wide board and once you get some balance and learn to drop in, you're golden to start having some fun in like a 4 or 5 foot bowl and just cruise. pump the corners, don't worry about hitting the top.

@@sixfootfiveman112 The score he got was almost insulting. Yes Keegan was more technical but Pedro rode the park like it was supposed to be riden, shredded everything and still included technical tricks. He did not only do 540's but a McTwist as well and a McTwist is way more difficult, especially with the grab he did.

I wish they had skaters doing the commentary, instead of guys reading the tricks off a monitor in front of them. Skaters know how hard these tricks are like no-one else.

Hope you post men's park prelims soon!!!! Dying to see, the stream I had when watching back in August - started in the middle of the 2nd heat.... so I missed the entire first heat and half of second :(

im late so it could be out as im saying this, but i hope you got a chance to watch the first bit of the preliminary round. i watched it live and i was nervous for these guys! i guess there's a price to pay when you're rooting for everyone

@@cartercummins9488 In the US if you don't have a paid subscription service all you get is a short highlight reel on youtube that spoils the results in the title. If you have a link to the street competition I would love to watch it.
Nbc had it all on peacock for free.
@@markvgarcia I signed up for the free streaming app and after giving them my personal information I found out you still had to pay to stream skateboarding and even then you had to wait until two days after the event. I still haven't seen any of the street contests.
Loved the competition. Why bother hiring tv announcers?!? They were waiting for the in park announcer to call out the tricks. Maybe hire announcers that know what they're talking about.
Can I say I felt like nearly all the skaters weren't even really aware to Be at am Olympics?🤣

they scored it like a vert contest for some weird reason. The winners longest grind was 1.5 seconds lmfao,
where can i see the mens skating prelims full event? can't find it in the whole internet. It is the only way i can see fellow spaniard contenders that didn't make it to the final.
