I bought my 828 when I lived in Minnesota. Now I'm in South Dakota at 5600 feet. I really need to rejet the carb as it runs a little rich and doesn't idle well. I also leave my shoes up but I've been thinking of getting a second single stage thrower for the concrete apron and sidewalk. I've had one before and they really scour down to the concrete.
With all that gravel, keep some spare sheer pins handy! And don’t forget to clean and lube the chain in the lower ends when done blowing! We have the same unit at work, but a few years older, when I started working there it was almost ready for the scrap yard. I took it apart, replaced the chain drives, sheer pins, and soaked all the rusty parts that were seized with vinegar for two weeks. The end result a snow blower that works, and after each use, I lift it up on the table and blow out all the snow that collects in the bottom housings and lube the chains! As with most equipment, the more you use it the more you need to maintain it!
Thanks, Pat! No shear pins in this model. More on that in a future video. Great points though about maintaining equipment. We like to make our equipment last, so I appreciate the tips.
Hi Rob - we love that Toro. I think we have 6 videos about it now on the channel. Thanks for watching and commenting! If you're not already a subscriber, we'd love if you'd click the button and watch our videos from slightly south of you!
Toro 10/28 snowblower review Snow blowers owned. All with Tecumseh engines not the cheap Chinese engines.. 1. Toro 10/28 2. Ariens 8/24 3. Yardman 8/24 built from various parts. I live in upper Michigan, last year we had a huge mid march snowstorm. It was about 30 inches of the heavy wet stuff, you know the kind. I got up around 5:00am and had my coffee as usual and then donned my Carhartts for the usual 90 minutes of clearing snow. My driveway is gravel and about 300 ft long with a few smaller sections and dog runs. I got out to my garage at the far end of my property and turned on the lights. At the time I had fluorescent lights that took a bit of time to warm up to full brightness. The snowblowers are arranged in various areas in the garage waiting to be called to duty. First I looked at the Ariens, It refused to make eye contact and I’m pretty sure it pointed in the direction of the back corner. This snow was a bit more than the 8/24 could handle anyways. Next, I walked by the Yardman and I could see a small oil leak begin to form on the floor. Pass. As the lights started to warm up I could just make out the Toro in the back corner of the garage. This blower was tough, scarred, battle hardened and had never failed me. It was dusty and worn with some small areas of rust on the augur and the red touch up paint was obvious. He was just sitting there with its hat tipped down smoking a cigarette in the dark waiting for action. We made direct eye contact for a second or two and I said , “you ready”? Then somehow through no action by my own, that Tecumseh 10HP roared to life… that had never happened before but we shared a mutual respect so I didn’t think much of it. On went my gloves and out the door we went. For the next 90 minutes together we chopped, tore, hacked, sliced, shredded and basically devastated that snow in such horrible ways that it makes me cringe even to this day. That Toro raged through that heavy snow with a hatred and vengeance witnessed before. It was truly inspirational and every second was a true pleasure. Never a sputter, never a hiccup, never a complaint. When the job was done I throttled it down for a minute before shutting down and returning it to the garage. After brushing off of some accumulated snow around the augur assembly I returned it to the corner where it likes to be kept. I turned to the Toro and said “thanks”. As I walked toward the door I glanced back at the Toro as he put his leather hat back on, tilted it down and lit up a smoke. Till next time……….
Thanks for the great story! I'm hoping we get one of those big March snow storms this year. One last winter hurrah for the year. I'll actually be doing some travel up through Michigan a few times in the coming month. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Pretty impressive & powerful machine you have there for only 8 hp, unlike my 2019 Husqvarna ST330 369cc 11 hp. My machine struggles at 8" of snow in 1st gear after about 12' distance. You got yourself a good machine.
This is really cool to watch! I have not had a lot of experience with snow, but I moved to Michigan earlier this year and I will be seeing more than I did in Texas!
That's a nice machine. Good location for the light. My new machine has the light built into the cover panel between the handlebars, right behind the chute! I don't know who the genius was that designed that!

That is not wet snow that is easily packed into a snowball or can be rolled to make a snowman. When you have that much snow and temp3rature get above freezing snowblowers will not throw that type of snow. The blades churn it into slush and it clogs in the discharge chute.
Since starting our UA-cam channel - I've learned that different areas refer to terminology of snow density differently. Around here, we call packing snow "wet" because it packs and is more wet than the non-packing "dry" snow. So far, I've gone through some deep slush and our blower seems to still be able to throw it. Maybe not as high or as far - but it hasn't clogged yet.
@@PurpleCollarLife they are really good engines but not the most powerful. To get the most power when snowblower people should get 8hp to the 10hp but if they over rev they can blow a connecting rod
We consider packing snow “wet” snow. If it is more clear than white, we consider that slush. Just different terminology in different areas I think. Do you call slush wet snow? Thanks for watching.
