RV Camping on STRANGERS PROPERTY! Would You do THIS?

  • Why are we RV camping on strangers property? Finding RV overnighters is one thing, but this takes it to a bizarre level. We are smack dab in the middle of Texas and desperately need a spot to stay as we get closer to the solar eclipse. RV camping spots are hard to come by with this event and we are going to share what on earth we are thinking in this episode.
This raises the most important question...would you do this?

As a trucker I thank you for thinking of us. It doesn't seem like a lot to most people but when you're tired after driving 11 hours finding a safe spot to park is awesome. Drive safe

Get a flat orange sign that opens up to block off a pump. Park in the pump to the left of the blocked one. Run the hose to the left side. As a truck driver. Just go during slow times. Usually enough pumps open to not have to worry about it.

I am a truck driver, it is perfectly fine to take your truck in the opposite direction at the fuel island if it’s not busy and fill up your def tank. Some semi’s have them on the opposite side also and have to do that.

You could also just fill a purchased DEF can or buy a DEF can from Amazon (it's blue) and fill it at the truck stop and then take the can to your other side and fill it. I carry a 5 gallon can with me and use it whenever and then just fill it at a truck stop. That said, my 2022 Ram 3500 has the filler next to the diesel. Very wierd that GM did what it did. Love your videos btw.

Watching that clip of you pouring the DEF into the funnel…. Turn the bottle and pour it in sideways. No bulb bulb that way. Let the air in it. You could always refill your empty DEF bottles at the pump to save money.

Stop at one of the cheap tool stores and get a squeeze pump or jiggle pump you can leave the def on the fender or air box and it will siphon in easier without the spilling.

Hello, keep buying the blue DEF in the box. My cousin is a diesel mechanic and he states the DEF at the pumps causes a lot of mechanical issues due to water getting in the DEF.

Regarding DEF - I have a Silverado with the passenger side DEF tank (dumb idea GM!!). I saved a couple DEF jugs and just fill them when I get fuel. Saves a few $$ - never a bad thing.

  • @tywebb9879
    @tywebb9879 Місяць тому

Totally agree on truck stop non-interference. They are making a living doing this and if you show you follow the rules there are no issues. I always pull up to the line and run in for bathroom use after fueling. I think truckers respect those of us that follow their guidelines which are basically just common courtesy. I have waiting several times, out of the way, while they back a rig into a single slot, most times a get a wave and that is just being a good human.

You need one of those felt puzzle roll ups. You spreadit out on the table, do your puzzle on it, and when you need the table for other stuff, you roll it up, the pieces stay fairly tight inside the roll, and it stores away until you are ready to continue the puzzle.

Hey guys, been watching your channel for years now but this is my first time commenting. Regarding your puzzle dilemma, you should purchase a neoprene puzzle mat. They are actually made to work the puzzle on top of the mat, BUT....the great thing is that you can also place it on top of your puzzle while you travel and keep it in place. Just buy one that is too big for your table, preferably with a few inches hanging off each side, but at least two of the sides. The neoprene will grab the sides of the table and won't slip, and will keep your puzzle pieces in place from the weight of the mat. Hope this helps! Safe travels!!!

Love your content. After watching I couldn’t help but think about the comments made about drive days. Something to the effect of not driving eight hrs. I agree, but realistically in a 40hr week world burning an extra vacation day to split an eight hr drive into two days is one less day down the road for time off. Sometimes ya just gotta suck it up!

I feel your pain, I have a 2015 Silverado duramax, the way I do it is I pull to the pump at an angle and get close to the pump it leaves me just enough room to slip out the door, that gives you just enough hose to get to the def tank . You think they would think of us RV’ers that have theses poorly engineered designs and add another three feet of hose to the DEF pump😑, great video , Thanks Hanks!

They also carry those pretzels so if you have a Winco along the way take a look you might find them. I love watching you guys it’s so much fun. I haven’t missed a Thursday in 40 years. See ya.

Awesome, Congratulations to De for 100k she's been a good truck. Just an FYI the Chevy dealer told me to rinse off the spilled DEF because it becomes corrosive. Spilled DEF messed up my 2019. Great info about the DEF, on my new 2024 I still use the box. Wife and I liked the info on BoonDockers we will have to look into it. Keep Dexter laid back and stay safe. 😃

Save the DEF box and reuse it. You can fill the empty container at the DEF pump. We stopped at Buccees, and it was so much cheaper doing that.

Maybe carry a diesel (yellow) reserve can to use for DEF. That way you can get it from the truck stop and then fill with it. Having a built in funnel helps too!

Our Sprinter has the DEF under the hood on the passenger side. I park as close as possible to the pump and it reaches ok. I hate box DEF so the tight squeeze is worth it to me. When DEF first came out, lots of folks were pouring DEF into the diesel tank so OEMs felt it safer to separate the spouts. Nowadays "most" people are familiar with DEF.

I used boxed DEF - the truck lane is for diesel, everywhere else is for DEF.
I NEVER open both the diesel fuel and DEF tanks during the same stop. Makes it easy to avoid silly costly mistakes.

  • @strmchsr

If you are going to use boxed DEF you should get a step stool instead of tippy toe. I am not saying it will be less messy, but it may be. Love your videos!!

For your DEF, search for a Self Priming Siphon Pump at Home Depot or Self Priming Jiggler Pump at Harbor Freight. I have the same truck and they work awesome. Just set the jug on your motor, drop the hose into both ends and shake it a couple times. It will empty the jug completely with zero spills. Can’t recommend it enough, I’ve tried many other solutions.

Please please please buy y’all one of those puzzle holders… I got so tickled watching y’all try to figure out what to do with the partially finished puzzle, it made my day lol…. I got my tri-fold puzzle holder on Amazon … it’s about $50 but it is so worth it… on a rainy day, I do my puzzle in my Clam tent outside while hubby is inside watching his shoot ‘em ups lol… then on travel day, I put a piece of Rubbermaid shelf liner under it and it rides like a champ on our kitchen table! My daughter actually gave me another one to keep at home on our kitchen table… We love y’all’s videos, stay safe, God bless and one day play us all something on that beautiful guitar!

It's a good thing to have the DEF fill and the diesel fill separated, because any amount of DEF that gets into the diesel tank is catastrophic. You're easily looking at thousands of dollars to replace the entire fuel system. You'd be surprised at how often people mistakenly put the DEF nozzle into the diesel tank at a truck stop. It just takes a momentary lapse of focus and WHAM...big trouble. It is much harder to make that mistake when you're filling DEF from a container. Happy 100,000 miles!

We always park our rig as far away as possible from traffic and commotion at a Truck Stop. The RV isn’t very durable to even a slight rub. It’s generally quieter and smells better.

Biggest takeaway from this video: 100% sure cats name is Dexter, 99% sure her name is Renee with nickname "Nee Nee", but only 50% sure of his name... "Carl" or "Kyle" (see 4:07-4:11).... You replied to my comment :-) But I also drive a Chevy with the stupid DEF inlet under the hood. I just angle the truck towards the pump. Then again I am not in a lifted truck and I am tall. I don't like how the DEF hose drags along the top of the fender though.

Kyle get a small pump with a hose 12 volt or battery that you can set the box on the ground and pump the DEF into the inlet under the hood.
