While listening to Nikolai Kedrov Sr.'s beautiful choral piece Otche Nash (The Lord’s Prayer), I was instantly inspired to compose a piece influenced by its harmonies. I began playing the opening on a marimba, striving to make the instrument "sing."
The first six bars draw directly from Kedrov’s harmonies, setting the foundation for the piece. As I composed, a line from J.W. Goethe’s Egmont-"Now shouting in triumph, now sunk in despair"-came to mind, reflecting the emotional contrasts within the music.
The title, Eravie, derived from French literature, embodies the ebb and flow of life’s highs and lows. This piece is dedicated to Julie.
