So yesterday I was railfanning at the amtrak jesup station when a sc44 charger went by pulling amtrak 97. We used to only have either dash-8bwh's leading or p42dc's leading. I am starting to kinda see why amtrak wants sc44 chargers so much they are quick.
8:05 F40PH NPCU 406 (Phase III Heritage) and F40PH NPCU 90221 (Veterans) lead a train with P42DC 35 pushing. The P42 is providing power as the NPCUs work as cabcars.
Trains in America are very interesting, it’s unique because there are some lines that travel between two urban cores, but also trains that travel halfway across the country
What scares me the most is the state of the rails in the US. The very second train pulled by a BNSF locomotive is rolling like on a rough sea. And the train goes pretty fast! What percentage of trains derail in the US each year?
Thank you for sharing these videos. I myself have been binge watching a lot of train videos. Stay safe and healthy and before we all know it us foamers will be back filming trains again.
Thanks for watching, James! I’m praying that we will return trackside very soon. Sending well wishes that you and your family stay safe and healthy. -Andrew Mangalindan
Seems pretty inefficient to me. When 5 wagons are pushed by two or three powerful locomotives? Either they are quite defective and the other is a backup. That is, even as quite an unnecessary dragged burden. I would also like to know how it is done at the end of the ride? Do both locomotives switch and turn on the turntable? Or are there two more locomotives that connect at the end of the train and then I disconnect the front two locomotives? wouldn't it be better to have two locomotives straight at both ends so that the cabins are always used in the direction of travel? It is rarely seen in Europe. Although I understand that the distances are smaller. Or is it just a coincidence of this video?
If your talking 2 locos on superliners(the double decker train) then its for help if breakdown and for power because FRA standard want it to become heavier And if talking about intercity trains have 2 locos at each back (the single level train) the blocky nose one is actually NPCU (non powered control unit) it acts the same as a cab car
At 7:07 in the video, one of the Amtrak P42DC locomotives was experiencing mechanical problems which put a BNSF locomotive up front. -Andrew Mangalindan
Excellent video editing and sound.. The doppler effect is awesome.!! The best thing about being an engineer on an Amtrak, just about the only color you’ll see is Green.. Outside of Denver we are in a siding (coal train) waiting for them to pass but before they reached us the Amtrak lead unit died. The remaining consist were facing the wrong way or a B unit. Dispatch had them put their bad unit in a siding but what then? No way to turn a unit. They had the main tied up for almost 24 hrs.. (BNSF Engineer, retired)
From my perspective as an Australian man and Railway Enthusiast here in Melbourne, Australia, an absolutely magnificent video here 👍👍👍 on Amtrak's Trains and Services. Please keep up the good work ✔️✔️✔️✔️. Incidentally, I saw why an Amtrak hood designed diesel was on the front of your trains, with the train being a Push - Pull type, either that or the original streamlined loco had broken down and the hood designed unit was called in to assist.

Man, there are some nice lashups un this montage.
In the UK, as a country that has virtually no loco-hauled trains left, its good to see the US still using theirs.
Why wouldnt we have any?!

Amtrak dont have turntables so they use either loop track or the end to end locomotives unless its the acs 64 since the only one that has double head
