  • For the first time on the channel, we get the chance to go and explore the Lake O'Hara area for two days. This area is extremely difficult to get to because Parks Canada has limited entry to roughly 200 people per day with bus rides organized to go up the 11km road. You can put your name in a lottery to get a bus ticket or attempt to book a campground at the lake when it opens on Parks Canada's website. This was our group of four hikers exploring the lower alpine route trail during our first day of hiking.
Lake O'Hara is a lake at an elevation of 2,020 metres in the alpine area of Yoho National Park, in the province of British Columbia, on the western side of the Great Divide with the province of Alberta and Banff National Park to the east. The area is known for its scenery as well as its alpine hiking. Visitors often follow the climbing trails which ascend from Lake O'Hara to Lake Oesa and to Opabin Lake. The number of people who access the area by bus has been limited in order to preserve the sensitive alpine environment.
The area is named after Colonel Robert O'Hara, an Irishman from Derryhoyle, Galway who heard about the area from J.J. McArthur, a government surveyor. The Elizabeth Parker Alpine Club Hut is in the Meadows about a 15-minute walk from the Lodge. It is a ski destination in the winter, with many skiers doing it as a day trip.

Glad you enjoyed it. We returned twice in 2023 to cover larch season & trails we missed in 2022. Keep an eye out for those this spring.

Enjoy! I’ve been lucky enough to camp there 4 times in the past 2 years. So we’re going to release videos of all the areas we’ve missed in that area.

Oh wow ! I remember that flat rock staircase at 2:42 from my last visit in 1980. Time for a re-do visit ! Great shots man. 🌲🇨🇦🤙

Wow! I’ve only been going there for a few years but I guess these mountains don’t change all that much over the decades as well! Most of these paths were done by Lawrence Grassi and his crew.

Absolutely stunning video, with great views. Forget Brewsters, you guys do the best holiday hikes 😂Was that your dog in the video?

I don’t even recall seeing a dog in this video! 😂 definitely not mine. I strongly discourage everyone bringing their dogs into the mountains as it doubles your chances of having a bad altercation if you come across a bear. We have 3 more videos coming this year of Lake OHara, plus we’re also returning for 12 days of camping at this site this year!

I spent 2 nights there this year, I would suggest camping there for as long as you can. You need like 4 days to see it all. I went back with someone later this summer to start a new video series (making videos for other hikers) so I’ll have like 4 OHara videos coming out in the next couple months!

Say, what month was this at Lake O'Hara? I tried twice last year to get a bus ticket. I am going to fork up the money for 3 nights at Lake O'Hara Lodge for August of 2024.

We camped there in July 2022 & day hiked in Sept 2022. I'm also returning there in June 2023 & September 2023. Parks Canada won't stop anyone from walking up the road to the lake. You can usually buy a $10ish ticket on the bus on the way down if there's room & there usually is because there's usually more people going up who stay the night.

@Eric Tremblay Adventures Would you say 3 nights at Lake O'Hara Lodge would be a great 1st time? I stayed a couple of nights at Moraine Lake Lodge last August. I say out of all the most expensive places to stay in that area. Lake O'Hara Lodge would be number one for most people.

@@williambrown3208 I’ve never used the lodges, I’ve only backpacked so I can’t speak about the housed accommodations. There’s 5 full days of hiking to explore this area, alpine circuit, lower circuit, lake MacArthur, oderay mountain & cathedral mountain area. So 3 days would give you a lot of time to explore most of it. Same thing with Moraine Lake area, it took me 5 full day hikes to cover all the valleys & hikes.
