Folding Mountain's HIDDEN GEM starts at this BnB! | Cabin Series 2025
We continue our cabin series in the fall of 2024 and this time we spend an entire weekend discovering the wonderful Old Entrance of Jasper National Park. The original site of Entrance, Alberta (now known as Old Entrance) is situated along the north bank of the Athabasca River in the foothills of west central Alberta. Canadian Northern Railways surveyed their railway line through this location in 1909 from Edmonton to Tete Jaune Cache with preliminary work having been undertaken three years earlier. About 25 years later, most of the town site has been abandoned due to the railroad tracks being removed & a lot of these lands were purchased for locals wanting to homestead in the area.
We got to spend the weekend staying in a wonderful log cabin at the Rocky Mountain View BnB located on the south side of the Athabasca river. This gave us the opportunity to explore the lookouts on the north side, discuss various hiking trails you can enjoy in the area while also hiking up one of the great trails in the area, Folding Mountain Trail.
In this video we showcase many local spots for exploring the mountains while showcasing all the amazing views of the first range of the Canadian Rockies. We also spent quite sometime exploring around the Rocky Mountain View BnB to give you a great idea what to expect if you come visiting the area. Experience the tranquil essence of off grid living as we showcase daily life in this charming mountain cabin nestled in the wilderness. A peaceful sanctuary in our rustic cabin, surrounded by endless hiking opportunities and breathtaking views. 🌲✨ Join us as we embrace the serenity of mountain life and share our authentic journey.

Sleep alongside the Columbia Icefields: Wilcox Campground - Jasper National Park
Great into. Nice establishment.
Definitely a great place to hike just outside Jasper. Most of the trails inside the park are closed because Parks Canada feels the need to double check every trail in the park. Even Maligne Canyon is closed off to th public all winter.
This intro is the greatest. Big Chip disarmed the camera lol. Beautiful lodge at the doorstep of Jasper. Nice hike too; loved the time-lapses.
Thank you, we had a lot of video of the blue jays mainly scaring all the other animals away! This area is better suited right now as still most of Jasper National Park remains closed until they can clear out trees, so having other options close by is important.
Lots of great information.
@@TrekkingwithDebandMike we try our best! I have a video for each campground in Jasper, Banff, Yoho & Kootenay!
@EricTremblayAdventures great I will check it out
Great info! I am Canadian, but I have yet to explore this trail. It's tempting me to spend the entire summer hiking the Rockies again. I'll check out your cinematic video, too. ❤ Happy trekking!
There’s about 3 days of hiking in this area if you can get a campsite or lodge. Bookings are done in January. MacArthur lake, Linda lake, Opabin pass & MacArthur pass. All part of the same area, with videos on our channel. ✌️
@EricTremblayAdventures thank you! I'll check those out too.
Always great to see what you trek next! Great information, thanks for sharing.
We actually spent 12 days around Lake O'Hara this summer & recorded A LOT of content. More to come obviously ! ✌
Can I camp there with a tent. Cycle touring from jasper to Banff.
Yes you can but I would strongly advise against it. The campsite surface is paved & not very accommodating for tents. I would pick other spots long the way.
Awesome video! I've been in twice with my family. First time up to All Soul's Prospect going counterclockwise to Opabin Plateau and down. From All Soul's Prospect my young daughter when seeing distance Wiwaxy Gap said, "We gotta go there!" So our second trip was birthed with that comment which is the same as this video. I shared your video on my Facebook page. We had good weather days. 🤠
It's an amazing hike! We did quite a bit this summer & have more content from O'Hara. I think we've captured every corner of that place in the past 3 years.
i add McArthur Lake on as well as I figure that once I’m up there (Schaeffer) i don’t want to go down and come back another day!
We're making a video about everything you need to know about O'Hara coming out in the next couple months that took us about 6 days to record all over that area. We also have a video of all the lookouts of O'Hara as well, we tackled Mount Schaffer, Yukness, Odaray... we've already made a video of all the other trails, so this might be our last year hiking there for a good while.
glad you did it clockwise!
If your knees are ok with descending from the Wiwaxy Gap back to "Le Relay", it's significantly easier doing it counter-clockwise. I always recommend clockwise because it's likely better for most hikers to get most of the climb done early in the day while they have the most energy.
What a scenery man, your channel is just brilliant! 🔥🔥
@@ervinslens thank you! So is yours, you should come to the Canadian Rockies for some hiking! 😆🙌
why is this channel not getting more views? your content is excellent!
@@mdog1615 thank you! It’s also taking a lot longer to create the videos so I’ve had to skip several weekly posts in 2024 because Im prioritizing quality over quantity. Just share the content & the channel will get there eventually, I’m running targeted ads this fall to get more subs focused on mountain culture.
Done the same thing. The small antenna you dont get good signals since radio waves are high in the air. I put stock back on looking for a signal booster. My grand cherokee has antenna mounted on top of the jeep and picks up everything but not my wrangler.
@@dw1284 you can even buy a windshield that has the antenna integrated & hook it up that way as well.
Best seenari is in kerala state
I planned on staying here. It closes after Labour Day ! Hiked Stanley Glacier counter clock wise. What a great hike. Thanks for posting
most of the campgrounds close to large glaciers are really just opened 10 to 12 weeks per year. Hence why we started the cabin series to find places to stay all year long.
I like this campground for how family friendly and accessible this campsite is.
@@ArtistryOfAdventure I wasn’t exaggerating when I thought it may be the best campground in the Rockies! ✌️
@@EricTremblayAdventures agreed!
Great Video,. Thank you!!
@@jorgeroadtrips8646 thank you! We have so many hikes highlighted on our channel in that area. We’re also working on another video coming out this winter about EVERYTHING you need to know about the entire area.
Great intro. I have stayed here many times. My fear was road and train noise. Surprisingly you don't hear either. Shower block has a charging station for phones and cameras. I'm glad they are keeping the dinning shelters. Cheers
@@campingboy9213 yes you can kind of see that charging station quickly in one of the shots. I’m hoping to get some cabin videos done in this area at some point as well.
this place is going my list for my next adventures. it's rare to see showers in a place that also has great views and creeks and such near by
@@ParadoxdesignsOrg and the number of hikes & things to see within a 10km radius is insane.
I love this video!! 🤗
I had to watch this video, since i got my jeep and my radio signal is sorry. Fixing it soon.
<3
Very cool to see this!! I hope to start a canoe trip from this location. McLeod Meadows to Canal Flats will be a wonderful three day trip on the Kootenay River. Thanks for the tour Eric. Cheers.
Site G1 is the best one for you then, to be directly on the river & have access to everything close by.
Did you see fish in any of the lakes ?
I'm sure there's tons of fish in those lakes, I've found fish in the mountains in more remote places with a lot less water. I personally stopped fishing in the Rockies, as you cannot keep the fish (99.9% of the time) and in the backcountry its a huge risk with predators.
Thanks for this one Eric! Our favorite in Jasper! Do you know if the trail was damaged with the wildfires in Jasper this year?
@@andrewfreed4037 this one in the rain is definitely my least favorite! I don’t think the fires turned up the valleys in Jasper they kind of stayed alongside the Athabasca River. Will find out next year, Parks refused me entry to film just to look at campgrounds. 💁
@EricTremblayAdventures in the rain very understandable 😅. Thats good to hear, it was a saddening turn of events and hopefully we can enjoy them next year.
I was booked to do this trail this summer .. then the fire. Still on my list to do. Looks great. Thanks
@@campingboy9213 it’s a great hike with awesome views, but you can keep this one as plan B, it’s not popular due to its difficulty level.
@@EricTremblayAdventures I'm new to backpacking. I did Glacier Lake and because of the forest fires I travelled to Vancouver Island and managed to sneak in another overnight. I was surprised at how quickly everything booked up. I'm already researching next years trips. I was at Wilcox campground the night they evacuated Jasper. I will be back. Its a stunning part of the world. Thanks for all your reviews. they are very helpful. Cheers
@@campingboy9213 you’re welcome! If you need more ideas for last minute, you can goto David Thompson Country which doesn’t require reservations, just a yearly pass. Lots of backpacking to be done there.
These are awesome videos, i live 2 hours away and i use your videos to plan my hikes. Thanks for doing that. Do you post on Alltrails or Gaia as well?
@@s.b.1713 thank you, the list is starting to grow! I post most of my hikes on AllTrails & I think most of them are public
This hike was absolutely brilliant. Mummy lake is so beautiful; these places are hidden away from too many people which is great Whistling valley is just a photographer's dream. You are so lucky to experience the true beauty of Canada that not many of us can but you share it with us. Excellent video and really enjoyed this hike
Really great hike with gorgeous views all around. It is great that you mention to people to respect the vegetation. Will be watching more of your videos after. Got some catching up to do. Excellent job
This is actually part one of three! lol I featured Egypt Lake Campground in one video, then this video is for the Egypt & Scarab Lakes. The third video is Mummy Lake, where I did the BC route thru Talc Lake then around Mummy Lake & all the way back to the Whistling Pass. These were all recorded in the same 4 days.
It seems this hike for sunrise it not possible anymore due to the road being closed to public? is that correct?
@@abedj1220 not really, they do have a sunrise section now for Parks Canada bus. I would just hire a private shuttle.
@@EricTremblayAdventures Thank you
You can find dinosaur bones scattered around there and I have found a few dino meat-eater.teeth as well.
@@Solemngolem yes they are every where & it’s pretty awesome to find them. There’s a few clips of them in the video
I was there when the fire hit and we could only go west.
we will be reviewing the changes after the fire of all the campgrounds, I was hoping to do it in October but our last request for access was denied by Parks Canada. We will likely need to wait until 2025.
WHY just why, jasper is so regulated its absolutely last on my list of places to go along with Banff. Cant even fart without worrying about getting a ticket for it !
@@Pappa052 im not sure which regulations you’re referring too… but in general they have so many visitors that common sense seems to get lost in the masses. Some trails are for bikes others are hikers only, some campsites are for tents only, some campgrounds are for back country. It’s all to define what everyone is allowed to do & Parks Canada is basically just following the National Parks Act which are the same rules for all of them across Canada.
Just went up here two days ago. First the ridge then the lake. Beautiful!

beautiful place! my favorite scene is 13:11 - wow. there's got to be an amazing story to the life on that cliff.
that one is called Scarab Peak, I seen a trail report of some guys who summit it a few years ago (www.explor8ion.com/2019/09/22/scarab-peak/) and there's actually a heavily melted glacier in behind it with a bergschrund (glacier separation leaving a large crevasse) making the summit a bit treacherous!
Great video, I think I'll add this one to my bucket list.
@@david_onthetrail hiking this area in the fall would be an excellent larch showcase as well!
You should work for parks Canada. Some of the friendliest and most helpful people were in campgrounds in northern BC and Alberta. but they weren't always back country campers.
@@ParadoxdesignsOrg Actual career paths with the federal government with parks is pretty limited & most of their hires for operations are students. To be honest, the plan is to expand our outdoor information videos well beyond the roughly 40 parks we have in Canada.
