Hi and welcome to you wherever you may be :) Year after year, Cannes and the Met Gala have some of the most beautiful and interesting fashions. Cannes 2024 came through with many inspired and thoughtful looks. I hope you enjoy it!
Glad you enjoyed the video :) My favourite part of making these is relaxing the 'colour dimensions' side of my mind and letting the associations drift in.
another treat to watch thank you so much! that gorgeous black and yellow dress on Leomi Anderson - made me think immediately of the beautiful yellow-tailed black cockatoos where i live on the east coast of Australia. utterly gorgeous look
It's always interesting to make an initial assessment of the look someone has chosen for an event, but then have you take us along as you help us to understand why we felt that way. The colors chosen, contrast level, how well the entire look blends with the individual.....so many nuances go into whether a finished look resonates with us or not. Your insight is invaluable! ❤
This is so true, to look at the outfit and make our own decision first and then see it through the speaker's lens, and then decide again if we still like or dislike it. There are looks I may not love but they suit the person well, which I look for because my own tastes are quite moderate (trying to expand them!) When it comes to style, I'm just a friend to go shopping with :)
I enjoyed your analysis of these looks. I have a question regarding True Summers but perhaps it is relevant to True Winters and other seasons, too. True Summers are known for harmonizing with pastels but do you think that True Summers can be drained by pastels that are still soft but too light? An example is the soft and light pastel pink suit that Timothee Chalamet wore in your Winter video. I noticed that soft and light pastels drain me but the moment I wear something with more pigment (even if it’s a True/Bright Winter color), the color to my face (particularly lips) returns. I haven’t been analyzed yet, I’m just doing some personal observations until I can have a proper analysis.
Yes, I'd agree that pastels can be too soft or light to have enough energy for True Summer, or whichever Season they're being worn by. The lightness limit for pastels is quite important, meaning stay inside it. If the lightest pastel in the palette is near an icy colour, try the entire palette with the fabric. A Summer fan will look great with a pastel, and well balanced. If the fabric is icy, the Summer palette will appear faded or grayer. If the colour is a pastel but too light or soft for your Season, I might sill use it in an outfit, in smaller area such as a print. Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Something I love about Winnie’s makeup is that the lip colour (which is where her skin is light) is dark and there’s also a lovely bright highlight in her eyeshadow (which is where her skin is dark). Something about bringing the dark to the light areas and the light to the dark areas looked really cohesive and well thought out Edited for a name mix up
Truly agree on both lipstick and eyeshadow! I thought about the lipstick, a gorgeous choice for both skin tones, was it just coincidence or significant to the actual pigments I mention in the video? Did they try several before choosing that colour? It locked so perfectly into the picture. Eyeshadow too, they really looked at (and saw) the person, I so admire that.
Fun overview, thank you! I recognize Meryl's blue & white stripe satin blouse as one that has been broadly promoted by nearly every fashion influencer since last summer, a Lilysilk item I believe (?). I'm surprised to see a fashion item so mass-marketed and over-saturated amongst the public on one as iconic as Meryl at a celebrity event.
Thank you for this, I also found the white suit Meryl wore confusing. I had an impression that it was greatly favoured by media and I didn't understand why. Meryl's dress-up looks can sometimes be confusing so the choice was consistent enough, but my sense was that she'd been hired by the brand. Or I could be missing something, I'm really not a stylist at all.
Wow Flora's look was my favourite in this video, just breathtaking 🔥 Closely followed by Winnie's white suit. I love the makeup and clothing, how they take her natural style, colours and shapes and make them sing even louder. I think Vlada's pink dress look was wonderful on her. Gave me 90s sweet glam meets old fashioned... perhaps even a nod to traditional Russian fashion?
Thank you so much for your thoughts on the looks, it's encouraging to know that others see these effects in the same way I do. Agree that Flora was great, every part of the looked worked, and Winnie's suit was so good (and clever) for this event. I could see Vlada's look as traditional, funny you say that, my mother was Eastern European and maybe that's why her outfits came to mind. Sweet glam is a perfect way to describe it!
The red rose dress was stunning as was the black n white satin one... both of which I would wear happily... I was sad for Merrill Streep I have seen her in much more beautiful outfits... I really didn't feel either was her best... I am of her age n would not have chosen either of those... thank you for sharing your insights...
Agreed. I actually enjoyed Meryl's vanilla white gown, if I'm honest, partly because it was a relief from some of the more complicated looks she sometimes wears. I hear you about the age, but it was a bit of a relief there too, just letting her be, except that I'd be hemming it myself or pinning it up. We may have less patience at this point with clothing we step on :)
Interesting about Meryl's looks...I like the clothing but the accessories chosen get in the way...meryl the black glasses whyyyyy! Reminds me of how I wore black glasses before my colour analysis. Do need decent glasses though to protect from all the glare of events like these.

Subscribed! I just came across your channel, and you are so elegant, open, complimentary and beautifully spoken.
@@risk5riskmks93 Welcome to the channel and thank you :)
It’s always a blessing when you post
Thank you, I hope you enjoy watching :)
Like fireflies dancing!! What a beautiful way to describe her dress. Im sure the designer would be elated with such a poetic description!

Oh yes, lovely wing and flight impressions. The underside of their wing and tail feathers are so beautiful and similar to the dress.
I always love your commentary. I learn so much from you. Thank you.
So glad you enjoyed watching and found new ideas, thank you :)

I really enjoy the way you talk about the looks, colours and styles etc very elegant, evocative, even poetic :)
Thank you so much, I'm glad that we think of fashion in this way :)
So enjoyed this episode Christine! 🎊 😊💕
Thanks so much! 😊 I love award show videos and this one offered lots to think about.

Love the color information and also the medical info on skin discoloration. Great video as usual Christine. 😊
Thank you, lovely to see you here :)
Perfect as usual ☺️😘
Thank you :)
Ha ha you put the excitement and glamour back into fashion. Love it!!!!
Thank you :) As I think about it, I wonder if I put into it what I hope to find there.
