    I can understand Pete's frustration. People always want to take something, modify it, and "own" it.claiming we don't need foundation, were creating something new. Its human nature to do this I guess because we all like to feel like we "don't need to respect our elders". We feel they created stuff by "accident" but now that we have the technology to decode it, we can make it better "on purpose". It's a subtle form of rebellion, and outright unappreciation.

    Pete is telling the truth, even though my claim to fame is Bopping, I wouldn't be able to say that without my boogaloo foundation that I got first, twistoflex's, neckoflex's, puppet, scarecrow, lurching, oldman, walkout, sacking, posing, fresno, arm waves, body waves, reverse waves, and like Pete said the filler moves that come out of having a foundation that you do and feel in the moment, I have a mixture of L.A. style, Eb style and L.A. Bopping or Botting Style but I call it a formless form...

    The reason why people feel they don't have to follow rules" as Pete says in 1:41 is that people want to be originators and want to point back and say "I invented that!" it's about ego, and IMO disrespect. No one resents building upon a foundation, or being innovative in the way one interprets a style to fit their own personality, but credit SHOULD be given to the thing that's serving as as your jump off point. It's an attitude that's prevalent in youth culture. It actually hurts some of them t

    3 things....
    1- doesnt matter how many times its been said, we need constant reminders, it keeps us on the right path. so dont hate on the source!
    2- boogaloo their chosen style to compliment Popping technique just like G-Style use a Pomona system. at the end of the day their all teaching popping!
    3- if you can make money from what you love then do it!! anyone who crys about it being all about the money needs to reevaluate life! if you can make money from something you love, let the haters hate!

    UNDERSTANDING THE FUNK AND THE RELATIONSHIP TO THE MUSIC....it's right THERE theat Pete could go on for years explaining. IMO a lot of the foundational moves of Poppin waving ticking etc. Came about because the dancers who invented them were FEELING the music, the beat in such an intense way that their body interpreted the MUSIC in the form of a wave, a tick, etc. These days (not all, but a lot) of dancers simply "go through various moves" hoping that they will, by virtue of them just doing the

    Oops.. Sorry last paragraph. I meant to say a system that has already been proven to work for most people. If you say you are doing boogaloo, you have to learn the system and understand it ALL as the founders created it, and view it. A lot if folks forget, and take for granted, that a lot of what we see did not exist prior to them doing it. At least, their approach to it.

    If you claim to be able to perform a style then you SHOULD be able to perform all the elements that make it up. It's like Gung Fu. If you say you know tiger style, you should know the solo forms, the two man sets, the weapon sets, you should know how to fight using the style, the practical application of the movements, aaaaannnd be able to explain it. THATS knowing something. And its only by having comprehensive knowledge of a subject that you can pass it on so the style gets preserved. If one

    You know what's funny? I took classes with Sugapop in his apartment and he told me that waving and tutting are NOT popping. So why is Popping Pete saying that you have to learn waving and tutting because they are foundation??? And they are not foundation for EB style boogaloo, by the way. So people, open your eyes and ears and go do your research on UA-cam. Foundation of boogaloo is fresno, twistoflex, romeo twist, old man, etc. And I'll give you the answer to the test: the most dominant style of popping/poplocking is BOPPING. The robot teaches you control and also the 'internal' bop. Glitching and animation. LA Bopping Crew (Earthquake specifically) exhibits the soul bop (full power explosive hitting, from the chest but also incorporating the rest of the kinetic chain of the body). So many lies man, it's sad to see all these corny looking boogaloo dancers all across the world, especially in China--they honestly think they're doing the best that popping can be, but the lineage of EB style hitting is jerking/jack poplocking/Compton-style poplocking. They're trying to fit that into the robot when they try to robot, but you can see it loses all the illusion when they jackpoplock the robot. Look at Bopping Andre, look at Earthquake.

    I cone from a martial arts background and approach learning things from that framework. A good situ encourages and applauds your individual style...but requires that you learn his material first, before you are considered a master of the system. You may be talents in some elements of it, but unless you learn it all and can apply it, you're just a talented beginner

    No natter his stylized any given thing is, foundation is important. You see this in boxing with novice fighters who want to imitate complex maneuvers of their heroes without understanding the fundamentals of a system that has already Beemer

    wow, I guess that's your opinion...it sure ain't mine.First of all, you are I guess, a west coast "popper". I grew up with a whole bunch of real poppers in the Bronx, they created popping as a form of dance back in the 70's. You make a lot of criticism and demonstrate a lot of hate for the new generation. There is a lot of talent out there, and they may not have the "foundation" you talk about but they out-dance a lot of the people that are on TV claiming they are professional poppers now.
