Jesus is Worshipped So He Must be God" Really?

  • Many Christians seem to think that because Jesus is worshipped, he is God.
We examine that claim and find it lacking in a number of respects.
The claim "Jesus must be God, because he is worshipped" is:
    1. biblically ignorant. There are many humans in the Bible that are properly worshipped.
    2. anti-Christ, a denial that Jesus Christ is a man. The claim “Jesus must be God if he is worshipped” is in effect: "We will not have this one, this man, rule over us".
    3. Contradictory: On the one hand: “Jesus is fully man” but on the other hand: “I’m not worshipping a man.”
    4. Not a biblical claim. The Bible never says, “Jesus is worshipped so he must be God”. Rather the claim is based on a misunderstanding of word meanings and wrong philosophical speculation.
The biblical model for worship is:
There is only one God, יהוה, The Father.
We worship God as God. We worship no one else as God other than יהוה, The Father.
We worship Jesus as the Messiah who gave his life for us, and the one to whom God has given all authority in heaven and on earth, not only in this age, but also in the age to come.

Bill ~ I am so glad that you presented this truth about Biblical worship! As a former trinitarian, the idea that Jesus was worshipped was a major hurdle in me coming to the truth about the one true God ~ יהוה ~ and His & our human Messiah ~ ישוע . I am so thankful that the Spirit of God led me to search deeper into this subject. Honest presentations such as these are very helpful in breaking through mistruths. I pray “...that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you (for those searching for truth) a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him”. ~ Ephesians 1:17.

I agree with this content. For such reasons I have never been a trinitarian. I find most trinitarians quite arrogant, and many rude, if you don't preach or defend the trinity doctrine they give themselves the authority to pronounce you as not-a-Christian, not a follower of Christ - they reject you. The last time I tried to get baptised I was told by a trinitarian pastor that I am not worthy of baptism because I do not accept the trinity doctrine. Like wow 😵totally unscriptural, but that's the position they have given themselves: they decide who gets baptised and who is a true Christian.

It always helps to dig deeper into Hebrew and Greek.
This is something Christians have not been taught to do and they skim the surface and go along with whatever is being taught from the pulpit.
I really appreciate your videos and it’s helping my mind to think very differently.

As a born again Christian who was recently led to faith by God, it was very obvious to me that Jesus is not God when I read the Bible. He’s simply just another prophet that is supported by God’s miracles, but also has a more glorious title as the Son of God because he plays a bigger role than other prophets by returning to earth before the end of the world. Given that I read the Bible from a blank slate perspective, I was shocked the first time I heard from someone the claim the Jesus was God when it was so clearly stated in the Bible that he was the Son of Man in addition to being the Son of God. Thankfully, I’ve never been brainwashed by shaming elders, so I’m clean of such blasphemies that fake Christians believe in while contradicting the Ten Commandments by splitting the belief in God with others who are not God. God bless you for speaking the obvious truth to everyone who have their full mental faculties and are free of fake Christianity cult brainwashing.

I think this might be my favorite video from your so far, which is saying a lot because they are all so good. The idea that Jesus was worshiped was the last thing in my thinking on this subject that was holding me back from fully embracing the one God in contrast to the Jesus is God or nominal Trinitarian idea I had before. Listening to Dale's presentation on the subject helped me see how Jesus could rightfully be worshiped, but I didn't know anything about the anhypostasis or the idea that Jesus is not a human person at the time. I can imagine that if I was a Trinitarian I would have found a lot of this presentation to be offensive and disturbing. I hope that the Trinitarians who watch it are more disturbed by the implications of its contents than they are offended by them. Sometimes getting properly disturbed can make people ask the hard questions and look at the evidence with fresh eyes and an open mind. I pray that your efforts in this area will bear much fruit.
Thank you again for what you are doing in this area. We need it.

@C S Your comments embarrass me for the sake of Christ. I agree with your conclusion that the Father is the only true God and that Jesus is His human son, but why must you resort to such name calling? Have you ever persuaded anyone to think differently using such crass tactics? I don't want to pick a fight with you, but I felt like I couldn't let this pass without calling you out for being rude. I don't know what prior experience you had with Tyler that led you to act like this, but you should repent of this way of dealing with people.

    • @paulmussell9036

@Tyler B #2 You are quite right to ask why C S continues to disobey these verses. I'm embarrassed by his actions here.
I'm not an expert about the whole agency issue, but I'm inclined to agree with him on that point. I can see where you are coming from, but I don't find your argument compelling because of the many other problems with a "Jesus is God" or Trinitarian way of looking at the scriptures. If the rest of scripture taught that Jesus is God I would agree with you about your interpretation of the angel of the Lord verses. As it is I find those passages to be a bit ambiguous and therefore in the category of verses that should be understood through the lens of clearer passages rather than ones that we should use to reinterpret the plain verses.
Here are a couple verses that tell us plainly that Jesus has a God (the Father). How to you make sense of these verses? Do you agree that these make plain statements? Should we interpret the less clear passages of scripture in light of what the clear passages teach?
John 20:17 "Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
Ephesians 1:17 "I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[f] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better."

    • @paulmussell9036
      @paulmussell9036 3 роки тому +1

@C S you are right, Jesus did say those things. However they weren't just twisting the truth. They were murderous people he was speaking to at least in some cases. We will each give an account for every idle word. I for one will be hoping for some mercy on that day because I have said things I regret. I would encourage you to consider your words carefully for your own sake, but also for the sake of others. You are in a privileged position to actually recognize the truth that God is one. I appreciate that you are making the effort to promote that idea. You have the opportunity to perhaps win the hearts of the misinformed through persuasion and sharing the facts. It is easy to offend people with harsh words and thereby prevent them from hearing the substance of your argument because their emotions got in the way. If someone is really ignorant or stupid they should receive pity from you not criticism. None of us choose to be intelligent and we don't get to choose what information is fed to us as children. I inherited numerous bad theological ideas and for most or my life I had no idea. A lot of other people have been even more unfortunate than that in terms of what they were taught by people they trust and/or by the level of their intellect. There probably are people out there who are smart enough and informed enough that they actually deserve criticism, but we aren't omniscient so unless we have a word of knowledge from the Spirit about such things I think we would do better to err on the side of being kind and gentle in our words. If nothing else we would be displaying the fruits of the Spirit and possibly influence someone to consider our words because of our loving manner.

Not only because of often falsified texts that are used but as clearly as the point here made because of uninspired (meaning using wrong terms/words/expressions) translations. His word is preserved in the original languages that i, and unfortunately many others too, do not understand.

All the reasons people give to say Jesus must be God are either unrelated to being God, or someone else besides Jesus have had the same attribute, yet they don't claim those people are God. The inconsistency of this belief makes it impossible to be coherent and noncontradictory and God does not prescribe to us contradictory or faulty beliefs. As sad as it may be for some, the concept of God through the trinity is a man made faulty interpretation of God's word.

I think the words in Hebrew and in Greek both mean "bow down". However, who a person/persons bows down to determines if it is worship or paying homage. If the person bowing views the person being bowed to as just a person with authority, he is paying homage. If the person bowing views the one being bowed to as his God, it's worship.

  • @ken440

    Another point Bill.
At around 26 min you point out that as Jesus the man has been raised "high above angels' and been "given power and authority in all earth and in heaven" then this is a change in the authority structure. (In your wording of your point raised).
Now I completely accept that. This is a change as you pointed out. This is a change in how God administers his dealing with mankind, so a change in administration or dispensation (as Hebrews points out) and therefore why I am a dispensationalist. Its as profound as the change at Adams sin and the change at Babel when the nations were cast off and YHWH concentrated on a single nation and hedged them with law.
Not sure where you stand in the debate on for or against dispensations, but I know some unitarians deny that, usually "covenant theology" believers, and I think it is because they misunderstand the issue and like Anthony Buzzard seem to have an extreme view of what we mean. Taken as you have pointed out and not given a controversial name, it is easy to see that a change has occurred, God is handing the steering wheel to Jesus for a while, someone, a man glorified, is in the driving seat, while YHWH is overseeing the journey (and not sure if they have L plates displayed 😁).
I brought this up here trying to defuse the "dispensation" tension a bit. Because from my perspective the anti dispensation folk seem to be overlooking a very biblical point. Almost as obvious to me as this "worship" issue the trinitarians misrepresent.

The people in Deuteronomy 18 said they no longer wanted The Father as their king, so they had human kings, and ques what people, who disbelieve our Brother, we still have a Human king The resurrected Man Jesus, fist born of the dead, still man because he said he is son off man, to be son off man, you must be born off Woman, so no God as king makes this very simple, Jesus the resurrected man is our King, can not be God or a God.

The trinity only makes sense from a sort of Divine Dynamic Monarchia making the Son born Divine and the man being the preexisting light (logos) and also from Antioch's Two Person Christology of How the man Jesus the light of God is indwelled by the holy spirit without measure. That would mean Jesus is God in the flesh being the eternal image and reality of the father made known by the two persons instead of the hypostatic union which pressupose a preexisting person called God the son.

God is made by the Son - who is not omnipotent - and by the Father. But the Father - the almighty God - is just a SPIRIT here, He is the Holy Spirit. This means He is ABSENT, He only dwells before the start of the universe ("No man has seen God at any time." "the world has not known you"). From that remote time He is ABLE TO OBSERVE US and take actions here. Before getting rid of his power, the Son was that omnipotent God ("He who has seen me has seen the Father"). The Son is now the ONLY ONE really existing non-omnipotent God, the Owner of heaven. No one else exists, He sits next to the POWER of God (a thing) because He hasn't got his own.

      @May you have peace
Jesus states at least fifty times (50) that God is made by 1. the Father and by 2. the Son, NEVER that God is a triune God! For example, " ...they all may be ONE, as you, FATHER, are IN ME, and I in YOU. They also may be ONE in US, so that...." No third person there! Why don't people listen to Jesus? Who came up with the BRILLIANT idea that also a THIRD divine person exists? Not a SINGLE word is addressed by the Father or the Son to this alleged third divine person! You just have three divine NAMES in the gospels! This means that the THREE names must, somehow, MAP ONTO TWO divine Persons!
In fact, the HOLY SPIRIT is simply the FATHER WHO IS A SPIRIT, not a third divine person!
You can see that Jesus speaks about TWO divine Persons over and over again: Father and Son, Son and Father, Father and Son...So, when He comes to the famous discussion of the TWO blasphemies you of course expect the second blasphemy to be directed to the Father. Instead, to your surprise, the name "HOLY SPIRIT" appears. Here you might suspect that "Holy Spirit" is just an EQUIVALENT NAME of "Father" since you know that Jesus has a Father who is a SPIRIT: "God is a spirit." In other words, the "Father who is a spirit" is called "FATHER" by Jesus. But - when swapping the names - the "Spirit who is the Father" (He is exactly the same Father as before) is called "HOLY SPIRIT" by Jesus, you can figure it out right now. In short, Jesus had to give a spirit-name to that SPIRIT who is the Father, to distinguish Him from other spirits (e.g., from the Spirit of truth). Therefore "HOLY SPIRIT" is simply a second name, fully EQUIVALENT to "FATHER," NOT a THIRD divine person. It is used by Jesus when He wants to emphasize the fact that the Father is here in spirit form. The two EQUIVALENT names can be freely exchanged in the various events described in the gospels (Mary's pregnancy, Jesus' baptism (the Father AKA "Holy Spirit" speaks and takes actions in the sky), help given to Jesus in his journey into the wilderness and in speaking, the 2 blasphemies...) (here Jesus could also have stated that the blasphemy against THE FATHER will not be forgiven).
You also have PROOF that the "Holy Spirit" is actually the Father: the Holy Spirit is with Jesus, but you know that the ONLY ONE Person with Jesus is the Father "I am not ALONE because the Father is with me" (reiterated many times in all different sauces). Therefore, the Holy Spirit with Jesus must be THE FATHER: He is the ONLY ONE Person there with Him, no one else is there!
The Father is present here ONLY by his words and actions, that is, in reality NO ONE is here! This is why you can say that He is "a spirit." This GOD'S PRESENCE among us here is CREATED by the "normal" Father (present in the baptismal formula) whom the world has never seen nor known ("the world has not known you"). Yet - even if not personally - that same Father is able to be here in the form of a spirit. Only Jesus has seen and known Him personally. Thus, in the baptismal formula the Father is present TWICE in different forms.

Strawman Argumentation. We worship the God that Jesus always has been. He came in the flesh when he was sent. Cannot be Sent unless you existed in a place to be sent from. As a man, he referred to God the Father as such. He spoke as a man. When people recognized he was more than the man, but the Deity from all eternity, they worshipped him. Clearly bowed and worshipped, not honored, but worshipped. AND he accepted worship. No man is worthy of worship. ANY man worshipped, if he is good, will tell people not to worship him. Jesus never once did this. He accepted worship, knowing that God is a Jealous God....and he himself accepted worship because he did indeed have a dual nature. FIRST God, Second man.
Strawman argument made in this video. Jesus was worshipped and accepted it. Denying this is not accepting the truth of scripture.

So since “No man is worthy of worship,” and Jesus “did indeed have a duel nature,” what is his other nature?

You are dead wrong that men worship men! The word "shachah" means two things. One is to "bow down" and the other is "worship."
The verses used for men bowing to men is just that. There is no making an altar for men or sacrificing unto men. With God it is worship and serve. With men it is just bowing with no sacrifice, no altar, no worshipping in the beauty of holiness. Again, you are dead wrong. Your idea points to the future worship of Antichrist and his image.

Proskuneo is a Greek word that means "to worship" and is commonly used in the New Testament of the Bible. It can also mean "to kiss", as in kissing the hand of a superior.

Roman Catholicism clearly teaches a different gospel than that of the Apostles, Its gospel is false, and thus is cursed of God (Galatians 1:8). It has exalted its own man-made traditions to the level of Holy Scripture, and thus worships God in vain (Matthew 15:1-9). It's the Harlot apostate church as warned !
