    try using a car drying towel. specifically a thick, plush, heavy one used for detailing cars. you would gently lay it on top and do one pull across the hood and it looks perfect. no streaking or wiping over the same spots over and over or chance of moving the ppf. also more time efficient. they are about $25-40.

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  3 місяці тому +1

      @JopzzSD I'll take a look into those. I worry that they are going to put to much tension on the PPF and cause distortions. If they glide gently across the surface they might work. The towel I'm using in this video works a lot better when It's not wet. At this point in an install It's already been used to with water off the the hood more than once. 👍😁

    Hey buddy, commented on a few videos now from the Uk. I tried that new ultra tack on an R8 I have in at the moment, bulked the rear spoiler and must say while it’s great, I can’t help but prefer the adhesive on the reaction film

      I really appreciate the feedback on the reaction vs. ultratack. I'll order a roll of the reaction and see what I think. That was the next material I was thinking about ordering. I just installed the ultratack on the hood of a Porsche Macon. Very very tacky and made the install a bit more difficult. Pretacking was a big problem with all the work time required on that hood. 👍

      The degrees are in Fahrenheit. I did not wax the hood. BUT I have heard the applying was to the tall parts (ridges) on the hood, which will help with pretacking during the installation. Thus giving you more work time.

    Do you ever use a streamer for edges...

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  5 місяців тому

      Steam can be helpful during the initial installation but won't be good for sealing the edges or wrapping edges. You want those edges to be as dry as possible. That way, they stick down as well as possible. If the edges are wet, it's hard to call them finished. They need to be dry during the heat sealing process.

  • @ChrisDavis333
    @ChrisDavis333 6 місяців тому +1

    How would you heat seal areas that don’t have access like the hood? Like the bumper, roof, or quarter panels? Do you just use the tool that you used to pre seal them? Or do you run heat over the seams and then use that same tool?

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  6 місяців тому

      I'm not sure exactly what tool you are talking about. With a hood, I just open it and hit all of those edges with a heat gun and my finger. If I can not get to the edge with my finger, I push the edge down with a Bondo card. If I can't reach the edge with heat I play it by ear. It's probably tucked in so far that I can't reach it (or see it) that heat sealing isn't needed

    What tint slip product do you use? Might give it a try. I do a lot of Toyota’s and the Supra and tundra would be good candidates oh and the new Sequoia (which I hate the bumper) 😳

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  11 місяців тому

      Currently we are using Joy dish soap with a lot more soap for our tint installs. I'll measure how much soap we use per gallon. It's 3 pumps. lol I've never measured it. We are working on the ratios for the same Seventh Generation dish soap with tint. I'd like to only use one soap if possible. Toyota makes some tough cars to put ppf on. All three that you mentioned are on the harder list. I hate installing PPF on truck bumpers. The bumpers have such rounded corners and that makes it more a difficult install. A lot of stretching or relief cuts are needed.

    • @marcclayburn6669
      @marcclayburn6669 11 місяців тому +1

      @@EncorePPFtint I too try to stay with one type of slip, but I have found 7th works best for ppf and I do a cross mix for my tint (tint slime mix onto the glass and j&j onto the tint)
      Ya, Toyota’s do suck and that is what I work on mainly on a daily average. Like I did a Sequoia then a sxe rav 4 and now a Sienna. This does help my installs on other vehicles though. I mainly do hybrid installs with the ppf. I find it is much easier and better coverage.

    This doesn’t look easy and that’s with this expert making it look a lot easier than it is. It’s like putting a screen protector on your phone, but this screen has the surface area of your car with all kinds of curves and bends too. Not to mention it’s not pre-fitted for your car. You have to precisely trim it without scratching your paint or leaving jagged edges when you cut.

    • @ChrisDavis333
      @ChrisDavis333 6 місяців тому

      Sure doesn’t and yet I’m going to try it myself anyways because I refuse to pay 6k to plastic wrap my car. I’ve looked into the vinyl wrap/PPF business before out of curiosity because it’s a great business model, low overhead, high margins. As much skill and time that it takes is not worth 6k. 6k is a full paint job with primer, several coats of base and several coats of clear, a way more time consuming process, a far more difficult process and skill demand, more expensive materials and labor, everything. Idk how they’re getting away with charging 6k for full car PPF’s it’s literally insane. So I’m going to do it myself.

    • @ChrisDavis333
      @ChrisDavis333 6 місяців тому +1

      If you think this is difficult go see how difficult a full paint job is. Body work, Sanding, tacking, degreasing, primer, sanding, base, let the entire car dry, wet sand, base, let the entire car dry, wet sand, base, let the entire car dry, sand, clear coat the entire car several times over, letting each coat dry/cure, maybe a flow coat depending on the paint you’re going for, and then an insanely detailed polishing procedure that requires to you cut and polish the entire car with several different compounds. Every step of the process is more difficult than PPF/Vinyl, and your doing literally like 20 steps, all of which involve the entire car being sprayed, sanded, wiped, polished, etc. How can these 2 jobs cost the same? They can’t. When you look at it through the lens of what painting a car would cost vs what PPF costs, PPF looks like an insane rip off, and looks like child’s play in comparison to the difficulty of paint. I don’t get it to be honest, it makes no sense, I think maybe dealers installing it have ruined the market and made it crazy, but it should be like getting window tint installed, granted a little more expensive because it’s going to take more time because you’re doing more surface are but you get the just. It’s a lot closer to window tint than it is paint in terms of complexity, so how is something that’s as complex as window tint being charged like something that’s as complex and involved as paint?

    Hi very good Video, I have done the front end of my Ferrari 458 Italia, my first time doing PPF so loads of waste ?? but in the end got it done not too bad, one of main problems is my Bonnet which does not look too bad but if you look very carefully at it it looks like creases and scraggily lines under the film, also when I did my bonnet I did not stretch the four corners like you did ??, as I thought as it was quite flat there was no need, what do you think, also wrapping my corners not very well as I have ended up with small fingers on several, and even ended up cutting some of the fingers out to try and improve the look, again any help or advice much appreciated, Regards Eddie

      @EncorePPFtint  Рік тому +1

      I can Definity understand a lot of waste. That happens to all of us at the beginning. As far as the bonnet goes it sounds like you might have a lot of work and stretch lines in the adhesive. depending on the year, I would try something like a 4 corner tack and see if that helps. Also for flatter hood take a look at my tesla hood video. That might be a much better approach. ua-cam.com/video/mc4XbS_5tQc/v-deo.html Here is another video that goes over different techniques for doing corners: ua-cam.com/video/ZTNeP_ptYDk/v-deo.html

      Do you have a time in the video of what I said or what I am working on? What happens if I scratch the PPF?

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  10 місяців тому

      I just realized you probably weren't talking about the installation, but PPF in general. If you scratch it lightly, it is self-healing. If you scratch it bad, you can live with it (it is a sacrificial product) and then replace it when you are ready. The material can stand up to a lot. It's better to replace the ppf than repainting damaged paint.

    I got my bmw x5 ppf at my local auto shop, but i notice on the edges that it doesnt go below the panel instead i can see the cut they made on the surface.

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  2 місяці тому +1

      Not all shops wrap the PPF to the back side of the pannels. Even in my city, there are plenty of shops that do not wrap edges.
      It doesn't mean they did a bad job. It more means that their installations aren't as thorough. Have you tried asking them to change it? Even if it costs you a few bucks, it might be worth it.

    that corner that you heatsealed was the shallower one towards the headlight or the sharper one towards the front grill?

    • @EncorePPFtint
      @EncorePPFtint  11 місяців тому

      All of the edges do get heat sealed. Once you are done with your install you go back and warm up every edge and then push it down. In this video the process of heat sealing the edges is mixed in with the wrapping of the edges because the edges need to be heated before they are wrapped under the hood. "Heat sealing" might not have been a good word to use in this video where every edge is getting wrapped. Heat sealing the edges is more on edges that are visible to while standing and looking at the car. You'd have more edges like that on bumpers, fenders, headlights, and mirrors. Any edges that isn't getting wrapped. Check out this video for more details about finishing edges (including heat sealing). ua-cam.com/video/64mex0Ps9uI/v-deo.html

      Thank you for the question.🙂 There will be a few things that affect the pricing. This specific car should have come in right around $2000-2400. Our full front end package covers the full bumper, hood, and fenders. As well as the headlights, sideview mirrors and door cup handles. At this price we are not removing the fender flairs and the only part that isn't a kit is the hood (and maybe the mirrors).
