    Our house never gets hot enough to need a fan. I live in Scotland so it’s nowhere near as hot as where you are. Fantastic video and I’m so glad I stuck with you because

      Fans aren’t always for heat, it’s extremely humid here in Scotland. 80% most of the summer, airflow is key. I have reptiles too so I need airflow to lower humidity

    I mounted a good metal blade fan into a window slot to blow hot air out. I open a far side window and it pulls cool morning air in. We save $$ on electricity and do not use our AC anymore in triple digit heat.

    I'm not quite understanding:
    Do you open windows in each room of the house then use a fan in each room?
    Or do you open one (or two windows) on one part of the house to create airflow throughout the house?

    • @takeuchi5760
      @takeuchi5760 Місяць тому +2

      Basically the fan part blowing is just for sucking in the air behind the fan. If you mean having all those fans running at the same time, that'd be a bad idea as it wouldn't support any one air flow passage.
      The point is just to create a passage for the air inside the house to flow outwards.

    You keep saying this is how fire fighters evacuate the air from a room. Maybe contact your local Fire Department and get a demonstration on video; seeing the smoke move is a great visual for the principle.

    So let's say I want to cool the bedroom. Do I open a window in the bedroom and put a fan also in a bedroom facing window? or do I place it in the other end of the house, in another room, facing window, so that cool air enters the bedroom and moves through the house?

    • @wolf_science
      @wolf_science  2 місяці тому +3

      If your main goal is to cool your own bedroom, your best bet is to place the fan in a different room blowing out, with that window and your bedroom window open. Be sure to close off other rooms that are not critical to cool. Also be sure to keep the fan a few feet inside the window

    • @Eleven2410
      @Eleven2410 2 місяці тому +1

      @@wolf_sciencethank you! And if I just put the fan in the bedroom itself, facing window - wouldn’t it achieve same effect - moving air through the house to exit via bedroom window - but with extra airflow in that room, so the skin feels colder?
      Or in that case the room with the fan becomes the hottest?

    • @wolf_science
      @wolf_science  2 місяці тому +1

      Both methods will achieve the exact same airflow, but one method immediately brings outside (hopefully cooler) air into your bedroom, and the other method requires all other householdxx air to be removed before the outside air begins to cool your room. Plus, the other method will have the cooler outside air get slightly reheated by the mass of the household objects (walls, floor, furniture). Hope this makes sense!

    I have 2 windows on the same wall 12' apart. My detached garage is not insulated. The ceiling rafters are 12' high. It stays too hot in the summer (new mexico) to do anything except park the car and leave. I leave both windows open (with screens) and put a box fan in 1 window frame blowing air IN. It really doesn't do much. Should i move the fan away from the window and blow OUT?

    Hi, I have two questions;
    1. does it matter where the wind comes from when you blow out the hot air?
    2. my fan has three settings, should I use the highest one?

    • @wolf_science
      @wolf_science  29 днів тому +1

      The highest setting will move more air and therefore change the temperature more quickly (as long as there is a difference in temperature between inside and outside). To answer your first question I need more detail about what you are asking.

      @@wolf_science well I live in an apartment on the second floor and its very windy. The room I want to cool has the window facing south, but sometimes the wind comes from the south, does the hot air still blow out? Or does it come back in due to the strong wind?

    • @wolf_science
      @wolf_science  4 місяці тому +3

      Assuming that you mean 42° Celsius, there’s not much you can do, other than close the windows and shades and try to keep the heat out. Blowing the fan directly on you will help by evaporating your sweat, which cools the body.

    Can you do this and still run AC? It’s triple digit hot where I am and home AC is struggling to keep up- can this method help with AC on as well or is it counterproductive?

    • @YuckFou502
      @YuckFou502 22 дні тому

      Seems like the best bet would be to fan the air out of the furthest bedroom to help with heat removal, like cracking windows in your car until the A/C can catch up and take over. There should be a point of diminishing returns for the effort of the fan and should only do you any good for 30mins to an hour, if your home isn't large. There also isn't a decent way for air to be sucked into the house without also letting heat into the air conditioned room. In short, makes sense to me that'd help for a short while, then the capability of the a/c is all you can rely on. If it just isn't large enough, try to sequester your family into as few open rooms as possible, nearest the room with the a/c. Remember to gently spray the fins and fan to keep them clean every few weeks and also look into better attic insulation 👍
