Amazing to see how confident Eton has become, who would have thought it was possible back when you got him! Such great riding and horsemanship on your part.

When a horse like Eton sees what looks like a predator crouched down near the jump, he thinks he's going to get pounced on. I mean to him that lady may have looked like a hungry wolf or a bear.

Eton reminds me of a totally unhandled 7/8 TB x Highland 15.3hh 7yo mare who'd ran with her herd her entire life until I bought and trained from scratch. She never got over freaking out if strangers came up and tried to stroke her. If I was leading her in from the field and someone stepped out in the yard she'd rear straight up, sometimes right over backwards. She did get better over time, but she was extremely untrusting of anyone getting in her personal bubble. After riding her on for several months I decided to sell her, as I'd hoped to do events with her, but busy situations blew her mind. The person I sold her to wanted to herd cattle on moorland with her. That situation was ideal for her, she was happy in vast open spaces and her herd instinct was strong, cattle never spooked her.

Thanks for the details of the ride. One comment about folks sitting on a jump: Please never sit on a frangible jump (I've seen it done). You can partially activate the pins/clips. I agree with you on giving the horse and rider some room around the jump (for all divisions but especially for the BN-MOD).

@@NoThankUBeQuiet That does raise an interesting question and I agree conditions should be the same for the first through the last rider but, do you stay in an obviously dangerous place? I think not. Lets say the first couple of riders come by clear but you realize you're in a bad spot. If you move you really haven't changed the equation for anyone. Lets say the first couple of riders had problems because of your mistake. Do you compound it by staying for all the other riders (and possibly get yourself hurt)? My solution is to learn from my mistakes and don't do it again (not that I won't do something equally dumb next time). Course walkers and spectators are constantly moving around the course during the event (and sometimes getting too close to a jump), so humans around the jumps is a dynamic factor. I say if you discover early on that you're in a bad spot, do something about it. If in doubt, ask the TD. Sometimes course design and having to cover multiple jumps forces us into bad spots. I try to check with the TD when they come around to make sure I'm OK. In the end, we just have to do our best but, ultimately, the goal is no one gets hurt.

So, someone else's horse thought the jump judge was too close? 😂😂😂

  • @alexboies1227

I saw that judge when you were far away from the jump and, to my thinking, she was way too close. I really got kinda mad. Eton was great though. I love his little nipped ear. Thanks for video.

i love how patient you are with all of your horses. giving them time to figure things out for themselves etc. i'd be interested in a video about how you train yourself for 3 day eventing. do u eat a specific diet, exercise, etc etc. i've seen a lot of riders talk about how they train and prep their horses, but no-one seems to cover the human side of the equation lol.

Watching Eton is always a pleasure. I love seeing him learn and grow under your patient yet firm instruction. He's come such a long way in what truly is a relatively short time is amazing. Lots of scratches and cookies to sweet brave E.

That was super. I enjoyed it. Also I think Eton did great. And not just great for him but great! He barely notices the jumps. And I know a lot of it is that he trusts you not to put him anywhere unsafe. You are a great lead mare! So as long as you are with him he is good to go.

I have a question about introducing ur mustangs to xc i my own mustang myself I’m gonna be hopefully competing this year for the first with her. How did you get ur mustangs so use to jumping over the obstacles without them freaking out about the judge?
My girl isn’t fond of people so I was just wondering about that.
