Nice info chase! How long did it take you to get to low 8s for easy paces? Those are my tempo runs for 7-8 miles lol. Yesterday I did my long 15 mile run at 9 50 pace at 149 average heart rate in heat and humidity . But I can only run low 9 s during winter time or cold weather. A lot my summer training is gym on treadmill keep heart rate down. Do you think if my best half marathon is 1 hour 44 min I need be running around 9 50- 10 min paces for easy long runs ? I also lift weights and do strength training bench press and squats. Do u think heavy bench pressing 5 sets 5 can hurt my distance running also? Or is it ok lift heavy
It took me about 8 months of hard consistent training in that time I did two marathons. Definitely stay lifting weights! 5x5 is a great option to keep strength. I do not think it will hurt your distance running as long as you are still training your running. I personally lift and run all year round. That pace of 9:50-10:00 is good, you may be able to cut it down to 9:00-9:30, but make sure your heart rate is still in zone 2 (aerobic) if you speed up.
Thank you! I will deff keep up weight training as I feel like it helps keep me lean and metabolism good also. What is your opinion on creatine monohydrate for distance runners ? I’ve heard mixed opinions on it helping runners . Do u think it would help distance runners? I would be worried about water weight retention
I think creatine, based off peer reviewed studies, is beneficial for runners. I do not take creatine, because I have not been able to be consistent with taking it and it is one of those supplements you have to be consistent or you will not see the results.
Thanks for your service.🎉
