    Thanks for covering QR music. They were a revolutionary band that mostly goes unappreciated.

    DeGarmo and Wilton were masters of atmosphere, and these licks amply prove that. Thanks for the lesson.

    Damnit!!! One of the BEST guitar driven rock albums of its time AND STILL relevant to rock guitar players today. I hope younger players never lose interest in this band and Kings X to hear what true instrumentation and songwriting truly means to music. Thank you Leon Todd for keeping the flame and providing some much needed Joy in these troubled times. Rock On my friend.

    Oh man, right in the feels.
    The chord progression is great, but what puts it over the top is the bass and drums punctuating at just the right moments!

    Excellent vid as always Leon! The riff, the haunting vocals, the bass tone, the drum parts in the build up after the solo...this song is flawless.

      Jackson/Rockenfield surely one of the greatest rhythm sections ever. Creative and crushing.

    Thank Leon. I would love to see some more “chords of QR” - songs like “reach for the flame” and “Della Brown” perhaps?
    I have been so into DreamTheater for so long, but listening to these guys (again) has been like a breath of fresh air. Yes i wish they were still making music today, because they would be a household name (like so many Seattle bands became). Unique to their genre they were. I do believe GT’s voice is the best male voice I have ever heard (next to Pavarotti)

    It’s great to see Queensryche getting the love it deserves! I’ve always loved they’re open string chord structures. Would love to see a tone construction video for this and some of the other Queensryche tones you patched for the 5 Killer Riffs vid.

    Love these videos you're doing on my favorite band in the universe (multiverse or otherwise)! I never know how to describe accurately all the things I love about QR music because I lack the knowledge of musical language. But that's one of the things I noticed and loved about QR, is the way they use minor keys (notes?) to insert a little twist into the melody progression. Unexpected notes and directions that are so unique and thrilling!
    Someone commented about how Eddie and Scott add just the perfect punctuations with bass and drums too. YES! And then add Michael and Chris's incredible teamwork with the lead guitars, and it's magic! On top of all THAT, you've got the absolute BEST voice I've ever heard in GEOFF. The expression, tone, phrasing, intensity, range, power, you name it and he's got it!!
    They are MASTER songwriters!
    Sorry, fan-girling a little. And this is how I STILL feel after over 3 decades!

    Love it! Looking forward to checking it out. The F# arpeggio with the Bb (is that implying a Bmaj7?) also reminds me of the beginning of The Count of Tuscany, another song I love.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  2 роки тому +1

      B flat is the major third from F#. Together you get F# (Root) Bflat (3rd) and B (4th/11th) with the 5th (C#) being implied. Add an open E (dominant 7th) and you have F# 7add11 aka the "Hemispheres Chord".

    • @jessenicholson1777
      @jessenicholson1777 2 роки тому

      @@LeonTodd I'm following you. I was looking at it as a 2nd inversion of B with a major 7th (A#). In this context it's pretty clearly implying F#.

      Try a subtle chorus together with some stereo pitch detune (+/-9c each side)

  • @hoosierdaddy2308
    @hoosierdaddy2308 2 роки тому

    Leon. If you were gigging and using a tube amp, what chorus and delay pedals would you use from boss for this tone may I ask sir if you don't mind me asking?
    Playing a reverend tube amp. 60 / 2o watt tube amp with a ds1 for gain.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  2 роки тому +1

      I used the Dimension style chorus and some Pitch detune from the Axe-Fx for this. Eventide Tricerachorus would cop a similar thing in one box. otherwise, BOSS DC-2w

    I play it slightly differently. Where you're going down to the F shape, I play the bass notes on Ab. At least to my ears that's correct, and the bass guitar is on the F. I suppose it works both ways.

    Beware of the tabs of this song too. They are absolutely incorrect. Even the official Empire band score is a dog's breakfast. Worst transcriptions you've ever seen. Worse than Metallica transcriptions.
