Unfortunately, thats pretty standard with most talk shows. Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon and james corden seem pretty genuine from what i've seen, but most others seem to be playing it up A LOT for the camera. Understandably its a requirement for good entertainment these days, but very true
A lot of these “rules” are not just for her show, but many of their kind. The things you can and cannot wear, the no phones... a lot of it is quite common for talk shows.
Are you kidding? Rules just to appear on her show? Hmm, my mom wants to see her show LIVE one day. I wonder how she'll be if that ever happens. I won't ever want to be in her show. I'm not a fan of hers.
But although they're a lot of rules that may seem harsh I think a lot of them have a valid reason, like the wardrobe were they probably can't risk to get a lawsuit over showing a brand in the audience or simply because the brand didn't pay them for the advertisement
Essentially, you’re there to appear on camera and be on a set. You’re basically an actress on a set. Meaning you do what the directors/producers tell you so they can get what they need for the show.

If I say u killed a person does that mean all must believe me no right the Talko doesn't have many solid evidence at all they want views and even the obvious rules are conveyed as a big deal "ohh they don't allow guns at an airport ohhh ..... Isn't that bad " and come on are we allowed to do what ever we want at any place are allowed to walk naked in a public place as we walk at home are we allowed to disturb any celebrities or person while they are busy and come on signing autographs during the show is that allowed anywhere
Total random comment. Knitting needles CAN go through airport security. You can bring knitting and crochet and even scissors (yes less than 4” blades) onto a plane. So sounds more like a rule for not wanting people knitting during takes if that’s a thing for sure on her not to bring list. I’d love Ellen to feature celebrities that knit though and have audience members who do! 😁💞 Pick Me, Pick Me! Hahah
So wait, you have to apply for a ticket and STILL wait in line if you get one. And you STILL may not be able to go into the audience? 😩🤦🏽♀️ That’s too much.
Well, it kind of makes sense...you need to apply because they need the studio to be full and when someone doesn't come for whatever reason, they need to have a replacement, a reserve. So they book more people than they need. It works like that when extras work in film (or other variety shows) too. They always need a reserve.
That’s pretty normal for these kind of shows. SNL is much worse. You have to get in line at about 4 am (sometimes earlier, like the afternoon or night before) to get a ticket to come back for either the dress rehearsal or the live show. When you come back, you line up in the order you were in when you initially lined up and you have to wait for another hour or so. They put me through security and they were all cheering me on and telling me to enjoy the show, and then when I was 4 people away from going in. I could literally see the studio and part of the stage, and they sent me home. Rough.
Well yea its a popular show and there are alot of perks in being an audience and its free, plus its not a concert hall that can accommodate alot of ppl
Masses and their pea-brains, just taking any excuse to let out their stresses and frustrations on others, without thinking it through Get´s old, huh?? And sad
To be honest I have never seen the generous kind side, but more a person wanting to be liked and approved of. Then again I don't know her, but in recent years you can tell her vibe has changed into a colder one.
For someone wanting to be liked more than what is normal, she doesn't kiss enough behinds. And on the other side, I'm not as old as she is, and I can get far colder when I sense bs or am being taken for granted and used. And I'm not a public figure like she is, thus not as many people lie and try to use me as they probably do to her. I'm amazed she didn't grow colder and still has the patience to find ways to have healthy boundaries without cutting people off her life
Not signing thins is actually a pretty common rule with a lot of celebrities, since so many people sell autographs on eBay. So I don’t see this as a problem. And would it be better if she threw the gifts in the trash? Come on now
if u were to sign one poster then u’d hafta sigh everyone’s poster and ellen doesn’t wanna do tht or else her audience would complain and thinks it’s unfair.
They need to get their facts checked because most of these “rules” are bs. I’ve been on the Ellen Degeneres show twice so I actually know what I’m talking about. You don’t have that many restrictions on dress code, you do know when the show is going to air, and the audience being at the mercy of the elements is so laughable. You wait in a parking garage with fans, benches, and vending machines and it’s in Burbank for goodness sake. The elements in Southern California is what? Perfect weather?! These are just to name a few things they got terribly wrong.
@@Manel_me They mean that theres is a certain look shows try to give off. They want to show off modern styles. They don't want any one outfit to stand out, so as to distract. As well, they want to evoke the message that viewers of Ellen, aka the audience, are sophisticated and dress smart. Not too smart.. as that would alienate the core demographic. Imagine watching a show where everyone in the audience in decked out in Hèrmes and Chanel, etc, while also trying to appeal to middle-class Americans. Thats a juxtaposition. So while they will not dictate to you what to specifically wear, i.e. you have choice, but if your goal is to be in the audience, you have to make sure your style and outfit fits in the parameters they set. To re-frame, when I worked at Starbucks we were required to wear greys, blacks and couldn't have flashy colors or logos. They wanted the employees to line up with the brand image. When you think Target what colors do you see? Red polos, khaki pants. Its synonymous. So is this type of dress code with Ellen, as well as countless other shows. This isn't the only show where one would have to make sure they are dressed appropriately. I didn't intend to make this response this long but enjoyed writing it. Hope this helps :)
I think as the show got more popular more rules needed to be added to keep the audience and guests safe. And dress code for the guests? Yes producers probably want a vision for the show. None of these rules seemed like too much. But the rif raf room and the cold approach that Ellen might have irl? Yeah def gotta go. 😬👍
@@melodyhumphrey7373 no I puzzled nothing out, you did. You thought I just didn't know what happened on her show, no...I was just confused as to why you would even make your initial comment, you'd never be on her show 😂😂 talk about dreaming 💭💭
For all you saying these rules are “extra,” consider: This isn’t different than ANY live TV show taping in Los Angeles. They all have rules. The audience AND the guests are there to make a SHOW- Ellen’s BRAND. It IS about seeing HER. Dancing is a trademark. Play along or get out. 75% of these rules are about maintaining that brand and image.
So accurate... I like how accurate comments like yours don’t get all the likes but someone calling her a fake and a narcissist gets like 2k likes. People love jumping on hate bandwagons... like. Chill
Squadallaaa aaa thanks! I was actually kind of surprised how much hate is out there for her right now. Crazy what one small scandal can do to a person- fo a little while. Lol Chill indeed! Cheers!!
I’m very confused at the amount of people who think these rules are a big deal.! Almost all of them are basic rules for any production that has a live studio audience.!
I have been to a live tapping of Ellen. You just can’t take photos and you have to wear bright colors. Simple!! All the other rules aren’t really relevant from what I remember
Ikr she disappoints me tbh- Remember when... She had BTS on her show and made them hella uncomfortable when she mentioned the term 'Hopked up' like girl I-
Katherine P most of them are pretty basic and are targeted towards guest stars, not the audience. The only rules for the audience that I really picked up on is no cameras, anything that can’t get past airport security, and no brand names/neutral colors. I personally don’t agree with the brand name/color rule, but it is her show and she wants it to be happy and equal I guess. She doesn’t want other audience members getting jealous because another member is wearing Gucci? It also makes sense as to why she doesn’t want cameras, because what’s the point of an audience if they’re just going to be watching the entire thing on their phone? It’s a little disrespectful.
@@akvnflz The brand name issue is a general rule, though... I sometimes work as an extra in films and everytime we are asked to bring clothes with no visible branding. It's because of endorsement deals and rules about promoting stuff etc. They (the production) would have to get an ok from those particular brands to have them featured on the show... The colours are a bit specific, but it has to do with a vision / feel of the show, as well as certain colours not looking good on camera under certain lighting. :) And yeah, the no camera rule also makes sense. People would leak clips before airing.
@@adris432 another reason for the camera rule is because flash photography can be really distracting/disrupting. You're correct though, all the rules for the audience are pretty standard.
one thing i dont like about Ellen is the fact that she gives gifts to RICH people. I mean why would u buy expensive things for people who can already afford it? Go give money to charity and help the poor, dont make the rich richer.
The video literally says it's because she doesn't have time during and that gifts can be left with staff who can deliver them when she does have time? Which is probably quite a while after people go home, she might not even manage to open gifts until she herself is done for the day and at her own home (and no one says people have to bring gifts, it just says they can if they want to which some people do)? If she was to sign things during filming, that'd eventually be all she'd have time for because everyone would expect it. And it wouldn't be fair to the rest if she only chose a few when everyone is so used to her giving the whole audience the same things. Does any show host sign things during their shows? Serious question, I've yet to see or read about it happening.
I do not disagree with any of the rules she has. If I was a famous person I would also try to put some boundaries in order to keep up with schedule and have a decent personal life.
I love how everyone after one video say they don't like someone but if it's another video with a diffrent light they will say the opposite. People love jumping on bandwagons and agree with what ever they see as the most popular response.
These aren't just one-off occasions though. She's consistently known (for years now) to be incredibly cold and rude by many others who're either in the industry or have had chance encounters with her. She's really a different person behind the camera.
We see her on her show laughing and dancing that is for the show. Her in real life is a different person. How dumb are you where you can't see that their is a difference between performing and real life.
I used to love watching Ellen but more and more I get the feeling she’s bored with it which transpires into her insulting type of behavior. Just my opinion, I didn’t come here to argue with anyone ✌🏼
There was an article about rudest celebrities of all times. She was number 2 in that list. People have came out saying she is very cold, rude and as soon as cameras are off she treats the stuff like sh*t.
I always thought something was off about her. Seems a little fake. Some of these rules show her character and maybe she's a little too full of herself. Life goes on 😂
Never liked her tbh. She's rude and a racist to a certain extent. On top of that, I really despise her idea of scaring her guests. In my opinion that should be banned. Imagine some guest having a weak heart or anxiety disorders, who will be responsible if something happens to them post scary prank bs. She just makes her guests uncomfortable and not so welcoming.
The guest has the option to decline to appear. I don't think that she will make or break anyone whether they appear or not. Bullying people to dance isn't appropriate, nor is scaring people you don't know. Those who feel that they need their 15 minutes of fame will go anyway.
I’m been on a late night show before and you have to turn your phone off. There was no autographs or one on one interactions. We stood in long lines. There was no freebies, not even one. There was no riff raff room. The anti guest list makes sense to me it’s her show.
“ she’s didn’t wana dance cause I’m a lesbian “ EXCUSE ME SHES TRANS she does NOT care who you love she is busy loving her self 😒 ask her to dance next time 😒😒
Have you even seen her? She's an embarrassment to the community. She says she's trans but doesn't believe in same - sex marriage. She's so dumb and I get why Ellen doesn't like her.

“Allegedly”
Jakob I’ve been to the show three times....they were all really good experiences and can’t wait to go again!!
Hahah
👏👏👏
😏✌
Not trying to be rude or anything but do u rlly think that anyone is going o watch an episode abt knitting needles on the Ellen show??

Ellen: You have to dress bright
BTS: Y'all hear sum'n?
So wait, you have to apply for a ticket and STILL wait in line if you get one. And you STILL may not be able to go into the audience? 😩🤦🏽♀️ That’s too much.
Her rules are too much bs
Rough.
Imagine doing all this lol cant relate
Well yea its a popular show and there are alot of perks in being an audience and its free, plus its not a concert hall that can accommodate alot of ppl
Lmao to everyone commenting about how they suddenly don’t like Ellen.
Masses and their pea-brains, just taking any excuse to let out their stresses and frustrations on others, without thinking it through
Get´s old, huh??
I'm amazed she didn't grow colder and still has the patience to find ways to have healthy boundaries without cutting people off her life
I’ve seen some episodes where she looks like she doesn’t give a sh about what guest is saying and her facial expressions are often forced
It's not suddenly. This video was just a good opportunity to state a fact

MavandClide ok you know what now I do see the way she do
@@akvnflz exactly
@H right?!
she doesnt make the rules lmao
A lot of these rules are with every studio audience type show, not just Ellens.
Oh so they’re allowed to pass gifts but she can’t sign anything. Ew.
Malin B Music I agree too.
Oh so every concert you’ve ever gone to the star signed EVERYONES things for free?? Ya ok 🙄
Obviously, her management managed this stuff guys
And on 3:45 it even says it's a joke on the lesbian part
Bad joke but still a joke
But were you allowed to look at her face? or you needed some extra makeup to do this?
Yay someone else said it. It’s so cal 😂😂
Is it true that you can't wear whatever you want?
I clicked cause I saw Billie and was extremely disappointed that there was only 2 seconds of her lol

I think as the show got more popular more rules needed to be added to keep the audience and guests safe. And dress code for the guests? Yes producers probably want a vision for the show. None of these rules seemed like too much. But the rif raf room and the cold approach that Ellen might have irl? Yeah def gotta go. 😬👍

"20 Strict Rules Ellen Forces Her Guests To Follow" er, I thought that 'Audience' differed from 'Guests'
For all you saying these rules are “extra,” consider:
This isn’t different than ANY live TV show taping in Los Angeles.
Lol
Chill indeed!
Cheers!!
Thank you!!! It was making me mad seeing all the hate comments when most of this video could apply to any talk show and not just Ellen.
The rules seem fine, it's actually the stuff about her not being a friendly person backstage that gets me thinking "hmm" :/

Sorry Ellen but those rules make going to your show a hard pass 😒😒👎👎
@@akvnflz yup precisely
@@akvnflz The brand name issue is a general rule, though... I sometimes work as an extra in films and everytime we are asked to bring clothes with no visible branding. It's because of endorsement deals and rules about promoting stuff etc. They (the production) would have to get an ok from those particular brands to have them featured on the show... The colours are a bit specific, but it has to do with a vision / feel of the show, as well as certain colours not looking good on camera under certain lighting. :)
And yeah, the no camera rule also makes sense. People would leak clips before airing.
@@adris432 another reason for the camera rule is because flash photography can be really distracting/disrupting. You're correct though, all the rules for the audience are pretty standard.
Exactly... smh
Wow, she must somehow be something really special.

Honestly, the guidelines about the studio audience really isn’t uncommon.

Exactly. I just went to two shows and all the same rules. But people don’t want to see that
People would probably come dressed like a beggar lol
Right? I don't see any of these "problems" in the video. This is just what happens.
one thing i dont like about Ellen is the fact that she gives gifts to RICH people. I mean why would u buy expensive things for people who can already afford it? Go give money to charity and help the poor, dont make the rich richer.
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH SHE CANT SIGN ANYTHING YET U CAN BRING HER GIFTS.Jesus
🤣🤣🤣
Most of these rules are literally rules for ALL talk shows

We see ellen everyday, laughing and dancing..and we get pissed when she shows human emotions like anger...y'all shes human and has human emotions
Ikr
These aren't just one-off occasions though. She's consistently known (for years now) to be incredibly cold and rude by many others who're either in the industry or have had chance encounters with her. She's really a different person behind the camera.
We see her on her show laughing and dancing that is for the show. Her in real life is a different person. How dumb are you where you can't see that their is a difference between performing and real life.

Im pretty sure that they make sure that the person they decided to scare is not going to get any health problems because of it
Agreed loll... One guest needs to simulate a heart attack. That'll stop Ellen from donig it lolll
The guest has the option to decline to appear. I don't think that she will make or break anyone whether they appear or not. Bullying people to dance isn't appropriate, nor is scaring people you don't know. Those who feel that they need their 15 minutes of fame will go anyway.
