    Simple, straight forward and I'll bet it works. Easy way to hold it on the tree. Thanks

    I use stale, hard marshmallows covered in peanut butter

    Picked up 6 of these 110s, squirrels keep eating my tomatoes. I bent the tabs close together and put some peanuts between the two so if they push or pull it, it'll set it off

    Very nice video on set-up. Thank you for posting. I also like how you show the tabs closest to the ground.

    Caught four squirrels and three rats with that setup. Tried it with the dog on the most sensitive notch, but it went off prematurely and nailed the squirrel in the head. It managed to escape and was bleeding/injured :(. Use the middle notch for sure.

    I got an opossum with a 110 conibear. It didn`t kill him though. Those guys are tough. Hope to get some squirrels.

    I haven't boiled any traps yet, but if it improves the function of the mechanism, I might give it a go. I get a little concerned when the trap gets really rusty, so I usually go ahead and sand it down and cover it with like a 20W oil and a little spray lubricant at the hinge.

      The smell of industrial stink doesn't ward of critters?

    Wayne, can ya help me? I tried this exact technique, using exact same (roofing ) nails, a 4and three sixteenth inch spread on nails in tree (where little curves on trap jaws are), and put trap about 11 inches above ground on tree. Squirrels approach from above, as I watch them and take the bait, ....... but they KEEP GETTING AWAY! one had bloody nose/closed eye, but completely recovered in about 10 minutes. I did watch myself get one, but almost got away. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Is it the nail depth?, nail angle?, nail spread?, These squirrels are LIGHTENING FAST!!!! Can't believe they're dodging the trap! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Shawn.

    I move snow at a propane distributing tank. inside of the fencing looks like a rabitt superhighway. I keep considering if I want to set up some conibears at the obvious entrance exit in the fencing they keep using. obviously the coyotes dont like the 6 foot tall fences so they just hang out and tease the dogs

    I usually just scope em out with the .22 but I might try your trap idea

      +Southeast Mi Homestead I like to do that as well but I don't have a lot of time to hunt when it's cold out so I like to set traps and let them come to me.

    What do you do eat them, I'm Australian and not sure why you would trap a squirrel in the woods

    • @Arcahnslight
      @Arcahnslight 4 роки тому

      Yep! It's a very traditional game meat for us Yanks, especially in Southern states. The meat is delicious and interchangeable with chicken for most recipes. Plus the hides are useful if you have the skills to flesh and tan them. Many also use the hides, untanned, as a training aid for their squirrel dogs.

      I'm from southern Western Australia we do similar with the Western Bandicoot, we get to males and fight them to the death, then eat the loser. That's been a tradition since colonial days, all the best om your squirrel hunting

    Does trapping squirrel damage the meat in any way? I've not used traps, usually only shoot them when hunting. However, the trapping aspect intrigues me.

      It usually breaks their necks or strangles them. Sometimes it is NOT quick....but that's the way it goes. I'm sick and tired of their endless destruction around my place.. Peanut butter has NEVER failed me, NEVER!

      @@kennyc388 this is why a 120 is the best most humane way trap a gray or rabbit ,, a 120 kills stone dead ,, a 110 has to catch it just right

      donny tyler you can buy a trap setter from any trap supply store. They look something like a big pair of pliers. I'm 63 with COPD and use the setters on bigger conibear traps.

    What do mean "peanut butter with a stick"? Why can't you show us how to bait the trap so we know what you mean by the "stick"?

    • @PaulWhitcomb-ty6md
      @PaulWhitcomb-ty6md 4 місяці тому

      I use a piece of carrot to smooth the peanut butter onto. It's easier. Make sure the piece is not too long, or it will prevent the trap from closing completely.

    Have you ever been able to set the trap without nails in the tree. If I'm hunting on public land, nails might be frowned :-( upon.

      small trapping wire around the tree and over the top trap jaw against the tree. the rest of the trap will close still.. do it with 220 fisher traps all the time..
