I purchased the Rubie’s with the intent of making a life-size display, Replaced the helmet with an EFX pcr and it looks great among the other SW props I have on display....with that said, I agree with your review 100% 👍🏽
I started with a rubys , wore it for Halloween, then I decided i wanted a real suit so I ordered everything, its gonna be early jan before everything arrives , im putting the rubys on a mannequin it will look cool in my game room , I barely got my shoulders to fit in it anyway is why i just decided to get the custom one made from Phoenix props
as someone who isn't looking for 501st approval, swapping the helmet for a black series and glueing the shoulder pieces to the chest armor in order to get that wider look would go a long way
I respect 501 for their standards, but why do so many cosplayers clamor for their approval. Cosplaying should be about fun, not trying to bring fantasy to real life. Im on my own journey to a vader cosplay, and I just want something that captures the essence of vader.
Wholeheartedly agree! I have an Episode III helmet on order for display purposes. But if I was ever to make a full Vader cosplay, I'd combine elements I liked from other versions with that helmet. Screen-accuracy be darned lol
Right on! I’m almost there! I just need a couple more pieces and I’ll be ready to submit for approval! Especially since our “great” governor over here in California is finally letting up on the Covid restrictions, I want to be approved as soon as I can!
@@socalsithlord well im modding the living crap out of a rubies helmet. i should of bought a efx helmet, but i bought the rubies by accident on ebay.(they added a new thing where the seller gives you a offer i accidentally said accept offer, but you know how that goes) its been fun, challenging. Right now it needs some samding and painting and done.
@@TheBrandonShepherd it’s a hard journey modding the Rubies helmet! Props to you! I thought about doing it. It’s definitely possible, I’ve seen wonders done to the Rubies. Sorry to hear that you got tricked into buying it, but I feel it’s a great starting point for any Vader, a good way to get your foot in the door. Keep me posted on how your progress is going!

Damn you really hit your camera with the lightsaber 😂 I’m planning on getting my buddy to modify my rubies helmet and armour. He’s going to add the thickness to the armour, more depth, a better colour and make it shiny, not to mention adding the middle ridge, and I’ll be replacing the shoulder bells with the the ESB fibreglass ones I have. As for the helmet, he’s going to make it a lot better. Making the eyes bigger, the dome ridge like ROTJ, add some thickness to the dome, cut the neck to the right size, repainting it etc. As for me, I’m just going for the Rogue One Vader for the 501st Legion.
Hahaha I didn’t even mean to hit it! Rogue one is so cool I wish I would have started on rogue one instead of ANH haha. KC Kenobi made his rubies armor thicker. Check out his channel too! Thanks for watching! 🤟🏻
@@socalsithlord I definitely watched that! It was very helpful. You’re a bit ahead of me with the road to the 501st. If you’re planning on getting a voice changer, check out my recent video. I think you’ll find it VERY helpful. there’s links in the description of what you’d need.
One note tho.....I doubt any GML would approve the shins for any version other than ROTS since that is the only glossy, symmetrical version. You can do level 1 RO but would have to repaint a satin black instead of the gloss look. Some GML’s would require the asymmetrical shins even for a level 1 RO. The shins are really only good for ROTS but need to lose the “socks”.
I’ve seen a few guys get approved with the rubies shins, but I think it was just because the rest of their stuff looked so good they must have just turned a blind eye to them. Haha 🤦🏻♂️
If you're serious at all about costuming as Vader or 501st approval ditch the Rubies suit. Real leather is a lot healthier for you as it breaths and reduces your chance of heat stroke.
Hi, I enjoyed your video very much. I’m in the process right now of trying to make a life-size mannequin of Vader and I’m trying to find as much as I can that is screen accurate pieces, from ESB but I don’t know where to find them. Any help would be greatly appreciated as to point me in the right direction. This is a new project for me and I don’t know much about where to find all these pieces And I’m talking everything from the helmet down to the boots. Thank you for everything. Johnny
A bit late but the Sith Lord detachment is the place to go. I also found on their site a list of what everything should look like and I’ve used that as a template to buy what I needed. Etsy is where I’ve gotten most of what I need. eBay has some good things and always asking community members for recommendations for where to look. Good luck with the statue!
Sorry about the delay! All the Vader’s are different! It just personal preference. ANH is battle damaged and dinged up, dirty. ESB Is on the shinier side ROTJ is the most refined shiniest of the original trilogy. With this one you’ll have to be very careful not to get scratches or dings! They’ll stand out easily! ROTS is shiny and all symmetrical with a helmet neck that goes under your armor restricting side to side movement of the head R1 is basically the same as ANH just not quite as battle damaged.
