      Objective doesn't mean ubiquitous, it doesn't mean universally true. It means "Facts outside of personal bias, feelings, or opinions"
      A debate, especially a debate like this one was is always objective, because the things being discussed are facts; and Vaush has a very narrow grasp on what those facts are. I've started watching his material since my appearances on the show, and this isn't something unique to the appearances I made; Vaush routinely makes authoritative statements about subjects he has little to no experience with.

      @@lymmy9609 Truth is subjective, imperfect view of the world and all. But that doesn't mean it's impossible or unlikely to get to an effectively-objective position. If it's indistinguishable from objective, then you might as well just call a duck a duck.
      That's what a disagreement is; the acknowledgement that the duck has a goat's head. Then when you look closer, it also has a goat's body, hooves and horns. Now it doesn't match the description of a duck, now it's a goat. Without any reason to think otherwise, if it bleats like a goat, it's probably a goat. So, we ought to be siding with that and calling that 'objective' because it's the most constructive way to view the world.
      The objective-subjective distinction is within independently-corroborated experiences. It's plenty easy to prove someone with this stance 'wrong' on a point they hold, because it requires that they hold the most accurate description of an object/phenomenon. If you find a more accurate description, you could correct them. Back on the goat; it's got hooves and fur, conclusion; goat. But another sees that it has antlers, new conclusion; stag.

      @TheKiroshi Рік тому +1

      It's not a "strict" rule, there's a lot of commotion around Bill 11 (2022) again but it's really not going to be strict. Canada does totally mandate Canadian broadcasters to match Canadian output. But that can be extremely broad.. Sailor Moon is anime, but though the 90s and 2000s', it fell under the Canadian broadcasting act as "a Canadian production" because they had a couple canadians on the production team, they kept it up.
      that hasn't changed, the standards of "what is Canadian" is pretty easily taken. The "strictness" comes from the mandate itself, if you take Canadian Arts subsidizes, Canada demands you to speak, talk about, be (as) , speak in our languages, ect.ect.ect.
      I don't agree with it, I think if you want Canadian productions, you should incentize it with repayments or covering costs. I think the act can be used by bad actors to silence "non-canadian" individuals (don't know what that would be reasonably) by not providing otherwise accepted support.
      there's no ruling against too American broadcasting tho, that's totally the motive behind this, but at least legally, its not true.

      this is just my take anyway. for example a lot of old paintings feature naked people but i dont think you’re meant to consume them in an nsfw fashion for a lot of them. its just a symbolic artistic choice.

      Why would the Greeks personify their Gods in such a way that did not match the ideal they believed in??? That makes no sense.

    • @benjohnsonhorn
      @benjohnsonhorn 3 роки тому +16

      @@michaelthurlow683 That argument makes sense for someone like Aphrodite who represents beauty (among other things) but is a piss poor understanding of how other gods may be portrayed. For example Hephaistos was born lame so it would be kind of weird to portray him as the perfect idealization of the human form (whatever that is)

    • @michaelthurlow683
      @michaelthurlow683 3 роки тому +4

      @@benjohnsonhorn Hephaistos is also the God of fire, fire does not just come into existence; it has to be made, either by man, or by nature; so it is no wonder the Greek God of Fire is lame, and therefore requires assistance to be whole; and yet every depiction of Him in statue form is of the typical Greek physical ideal. OOF. You are also aware that most stories dealing with that God describe his feet being crippled when he fell from Olympus, yes? What is the meaning behind that I wonder! LMAO.

      You know anything about Hume's Law? "You cannot derive an ought from an is" and conversely "You cannot derive and is from an ought"? The mere fact that people hold opinions or have perspectives bears no relevance to the objective nature of the world. If you view human feces as beautiful, or believe child at play is sinister then your subjective interpretation of reality is *wrong*; the fact that you hold an opinion isn't sufficient, in and of itself, to make that opinion worthwhile or meaningful. Your opinions can absolutely be wrong.

      @@novelty_thief Have you ever seen the square and circle shadow cast by a cylinder projection? While the individual's subjective interpretation of reality may be "true" to the individual, it is not The Truth. The Truth exists irrespective of the individual's personal observations. The Truth is the object which casts both shadows. You have a moral duty as a sapient creature to pursue The Truth; not your own subjective, fallible understanding of personal "truisms"
      Everything is objective. If you refuse to look for the Objective Truth, then you have to consign yourself to a delusional existence where your own fantasies matter more than the concrete superessence of the universe. You are free to ignore your place in the cosmos, but you won't The Truth in a fantasy world.

    "You know exactly what I mean..." or "Are you asking me this rethorically...?" is often the first sign that somebody has been caught off guard, and has been asked a question they have never thought about.
    If you are in a discussion, and you suddenly feel like your oposite is pretending that they don't know what you are talking about, try to actually EXPLAIN what you're talking about. And if you notice yourself stumbeling, you have to realize: You have just found an area where you have taken something for granted, without ever thinking about it. And that, then, becomes something you need to start questioning, until you have a more coherent definition, instead of this intuitive, vague gut-feeling you have been working from all the time.
