    I’m a rising hs senior and your videos are definitely helping convince me to apply here; it’s really good to see a student perspective that isn’t actually sanctioned and scripted by the school itself, yk?

      I know exactly what you mean! When I first applied to Agnes, all the videos I found on UA-cam didn't feel that genuine and I wished there was a video that gave a more holistic picture of what it's like to go to school here. That's part of why I made this video and I'm so glad it's helping with your college app process!🤩

    I appreciate you posting this vlog so much (as a possible future Scottie)! I was recently accepted and all the videos of dorm tours or grwms I've come across while researching the school have felt so artificial and scripted, which turned me away for a split second. Yours was a breath of fresh air 💗I was wondering though do you feel that the workload is or was difficult (in specific your freshman year)?

    • @ivychenofficial
      @ivychenofficial  7 місяців тому +2

      That is exactly how I felt when I looked up ASC on UA-cam! Every video seemed a bit unnatural and too curated for me to get an accurate idea of the student life. That’s why I thought it would be cool to make a vlog from a more authentic perspective and I’m glad it could help!
      As for the workload, I personally feel that ASC courses are really easy (but I’m also a business major lol). I’ve spoken to some professors that have also taught at other colleges (such as Emory & Georgia Tech) and they all say that the pacing and workload of Agnes classes are much lighter than other colleges. Obviously it depends on the major and person too but getting good grades here haven’t been a problem for me. Sometimes I actually think the classes are too easy and professors can be too lenient to the point that I’m not sure if it’s preparing me for the real world. In the beginning, sometimes I wanted to be challenged more but I kind of got used to it and now I just like all the free time it gives me haha.
      During freshman year, Agnes actually gives you the freedom to basically choose any classes you want (assuming there’s availability and there’s no prerequisites). My freshman advisor suggested that I try different classes that interested me so I could figure out what I liked through experience. I ended up taking really easy elective classes (like theater & public speaking) so the workload was super easy- honestly a little too easy to the point that I was bored sometimes, which is why I enrolled in harder classes the next semester. But of course the workload for each person would vary depending on what classes you choose and how many credits you take.
      I hope that helps, feel free to ask any other questions you may have! I know picking the right college is a big decision but you’re putting in the work to research and ask good questions so I’m sure you’ll thrive regardless of where you end up going :)

    Hello! I am a rising senior looking for colleges and Agnes Scott meets my requirements. Thank you for this vlog, it really is helpful. Do you live in dorms? Was the application to get into Agnes difficult? How did you choose your roommate? Or was she selected for you? What is security like on campus? Thank you again!

    • @ivychenofficial
      @ivychenofficial  Рік тому +3

      Hi, I'm glad you found the vlog to be helpful!
      The apartment shown in this video is one of the dorm options at Agnes. Mine specifically was a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom for two students. There are also other traditional dorm options where you share a room with a roommate and use the communal bathrooms/showers in the building instead of having your own. When you apply for housing, you can apply together with a roommate of choice (such as with one of your friends), or you can also apply to be paired with a random roommate, which is what I did. In my case, they sent a google form that I could fill out with my housing preferences (such as what time I sleep & my living habits). I think they did a good job pairing me up since my roommate was pretty compatible. Also, some housing options allow up to 4 students living together in one apartment.
      I applied to Agnes last minute and honestly I just filled everything out quickly and on the spot. I don't remember being very meticulous lol but I also had good grades/stats which is why I didn't worry too much. I don't think it's super rigorous though and definitely recommend applying if you have an interest in attending!
      As for security, Agnes has the campus police driving around the area during the day and night to check for any suspicious activity. They also have a public safety office that you can call anytime. For example, if you are walking to your dorm late at night, you can call the security to escort you if that makes you feel more comfortable. One time, there was a crazy lady banging on my door and security came to handle the situation when I called them. So security is very accessible and I feel quite safe while on campus.
      I hope these answers help! Good luck with your college applications :)

    Hello! I'm Brazilian and I'm looking for colleges that offer full-ride undergraduate scholarships. I discovered Agnes today and I really liked it! I fell in love with the creative arts course, it's perfect for me! Could you explain to me how the Marvin B. Perry Presidential scholarship works? And if it's easy to find a job afterwards? Thank you.

    • @ivychenofficial
      @ivychenofficial  4 місяці тому

      Hi! I’m so glad you like Agnes Scott! So I don’t know much about the scholarship actually but this is what the website says:
      “Agnes Scott College does offer one full tuition, room and board scholarship to an international student each year. This scholarship, known as the Marvin B. Perry Presidential Scholarship, is the college’s most competitive academic scholarship. Top first-year applicants may be invited to compete for this prestigious award. Students selected as Agnes Scott Presidential Scholars excel in academics, leadership, character and personal achievement.”
      I don’t know much more about it besides that, but you can also email admissions for more info. As for finding a job, it really depends on your major and experience so it’s different for everyone. I think Agnes Scott is good at helping students build soft skills like communication, but you might have to also do your own research for job preparations and things like that. We also do have resources to help students find internships, but overall it’s hard to say because it really depends on the person.
      I hope that helps! Good luck! 🍀😊

    What are extracurriculars clubs organizations and sports like?

    • @ivychenofficial
      @ivychenofficial  2 місяці тому +1

      I wasn’t in any clubs or sports so my knowledge is limited, but I’ll tell you what I know. During freshman year, I went to a couple clubs to check them out, but overall I got a recreational vibe rather than a competitive one. I’ve always been pretty competitive so I wanted to join a club that aimed to compete seriously but I think at Agnes most people go to clubs to hang out with people rather than focus super hard on achievement. There’s totally nothing wrong with that and it really just depends on what you’re looking for, but I didn’t find one that suited me. As for sports, we have them but it also isn’t very competitive, like we’re not D1 athletes or anything but on the plus side the sports are easier to join and there’s less pressure. If you want to play to be a part of a team and just enjoy your sport, it’s good for that. Hope this helps!

      Hi! Happy to hear that Agnes is your top choice! I don't think that Agnes is super hard to get into tbh and you definitely should apply even if your stats aren't perfect. And Agnes does care about heart and you as a person outside of stats, so I would just make sure to do a good job of showcasing your other strengths too whether that's through essays or extracurriculars. I have a friend at Agnes who didn't have the best stats but she really wanted to attend and communicated that, and eventually admissions actually set up an interview to get to know her more and ultimately she ended up getting in! So just try your best and it's great that you're already planning early and everything, good luck :)

      @ivychenofficial  Рік тому +1

      Hi! I don’t go to Georgia Tech but I have a handful of friends that are tech students so here are some things I’ve heard from them:
      Tech is a pretty academically rigorous school. It does vary depending on the major but I’d recommend being mentally ready for that. Imposter syndrome can be common since you’re surrounded by so many successful students your age, but it can also be very inspiring & motivating to be in that environment too.
      Socially, there is a lot of diversity since tech is a large school. There are many different clubs and circles, so you’re likely to find people with similar interests. I personally really love the community at tech. Most of the people I’ve met are smart, down to earth, and hard working.
      Overall, tech is a great school with a lot of heart. As long as you’re ready for the academic pressure, I think it’s a wonderful place to attend. Hope that helps!

    I’m an incoming freshman (hopefully) for 2024 and I was wondering if boyfriend’s are allowed to sleepover in dorms? Also, how are you able to live off campus?

    • @ivychenofficial
      @ivychenofficial  9 місяців тому +1

      Ooo these are good questions. So the apartment I live in is actually one of the dorm options for students at ASC. Just like the other dorms, you can apply for an apartment style dorm during the housing selection period. Alternatively, you could fill out a request form for off-campus housing and live somewhere else (such as an apartment complex nearby unaffiliated with ASC) if you get approved. As for boyfriends, I’m actually not sure if it’s allowed but I’ve heard of it happening before. I think the biggest concern would be getting the green light from your roommate(s). Everyone who dorms has at least one roommate unless you have a special exception, so it may be possible for a boyfriend to sleepover if everyone else in the dorm is okay with it but I’m not 100% sure. Hope this helps! Feel free to lmk if you have any additional questions :)

      @ivychenofficial  7 місяців тому

      Hi! Sorry for the late reply, but thank you for commenting :) I heard that the student with the highest GPA in every grade gets a full ride scholarship --a friend told me this so I am not 100% sure if it is true but you could call the admissions office to get a more confident answer (the school phone numbers are on the Agnes Scott website). As for the classes, there are two main ways they are split up. Usually 4 credit courses will meet twice a week (usually Tuesdays & Thursdays) for 75 minutes per class or three times a week (usually Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays) for 50 minutes per class. Most students take 12-16 credits per semester (or 3-4 classes). The specifics of each class vary depending on the teacher and subject, but feel free to let me know if you have more specific questions about the classes and I can try to answer them.

      @@nilufarshodiyorova2068 My first SUMMIT experience was awesome-it was my favorite part of freshmen year. So every freshman gets to go on a free week-long trip fully covered by the college as a SUMMIT experience. We all filled out a form to rank our choices. I chose Paris, France as my first choice and got assigned Marseille, France which was pretty close. The trip was in March during “peak week” which is right before spring break and it was very well organized & planned. We had a teacher chaperone and tour guide with us the entire time to navigate the city. Two of my favorite experiences during the trip were 1) a group cooking class (we made falafels!) 2) visiting a local high school in Marseille & befriending the students. It was my first time in Europe & I didn’t speak the language but the chaperones made everything very easy and fun. For my sophomore year SUMMIT experience, I spent peak week at an established PR firm in Atlanta to learn about the company. It was sort of like interning except we mostly just met different people in the company rather than doing anything hands on. We filled out a form again to submit our top picks & I got my first choice. This experience was also awesome and honestly so fun that I genuinely considered applying to intern at that company. I heard some people complain about their SUMMIT experience at other companies but I don’t remember the reasons. For me, I enjoyed both of my SUMMIT experiences despite some other students’ complaints about theirs
      and honestly think the college tries their best to make the experiences beneficial to students. I mean, sometimes they hand-hold us a little too much in my opinion (kind of feels like they are treating us like babies lol) but I still really enjoyed the experiences overall. Hope that helps!
