Agreed, we wouldn't have the likes of Schwarzenegger (of course), or even sportspeople like Jim Brown, Vinnie Jones, Roddy Piper etc. in films. I do think there's room for stunt casting as well as casting proper actors though, it just depends on how they are utilized.
Wherever you guys are, do what you have to do and don’t worry. We’re happy to see you guys whenever you can. Would you be interested in discussing Netflix and Zack Snyder’s idea of the Director’s Cut? Does the idea of the director’s cut mean anything in today’s way of watching films? Just a thought, cheers!
'Stunt casting' is very driven by 'get there fans to watch it'. Lady Gaga's acting career was very much driven by that in it's early stages although she's had done well received 'real' roles in recent years. As mentioned in the chat, Dave Bautista has been very successful and earned people like Denis Villeneuve's respect. I can understand why it's annoying when 'favours of the month', singers+ models, and influences get good parts and waste an opportunity that an unknown actor could have run with.
Yeah it’s one thing when they’re dedicated and in it because they love acting. It’s still frustrating that they take opportunities from career actors, but at least they put in the great and are good as a result.
Couldn't get with the new take on Road House, just felt very background to me. Do enjoy Jake but he's best suited in other pieces. The original Road House is never guilty its always a pleasure! And having acted briefly in the past I have stood up for the likes of Danny Dyer when people say "oh he's just playing himself" and you're right Duncan the subtleties of hitting your mark, remembering lines etc.. it's a whole process. But then people put things down to not listen to reason so.. there's that. Great video and always good to have you back!
hi Duncan and Richard. glad to see you back. could you review X-Men 97 if possible? it's an amazing show and Disney best since their acquisition of Marvel et al.
The 1989 'Road House' is a guilty pleasure of mine but it's very throwaway and a bit too long at nearly 2 hours. I do think this is a case of a recognised name being stapled onto something which could have been it's own thing because unfortunately franchises are dominant at the moment
I’m all for everyone getting a chance to act, but people who have the advantage to “cut the line” and act in big budget movies (i.e. people famous just for being famous, nepo babies) pisses me off. I know actor friends and acquaintances who have real talent and have to struggle to get z grade roles and they still do it because they love the craft and have put in the hours.
how about the hypothetical situation of a boxer or basketball players first movie and they just so happen to be an incredible actor but didn't 'pay their dues' What's the amount of years or small productions one has to endure as a 'starving artist' before the big break, 5yrs,10yrs?, could they just suck at acting?
I can understand your point of view but there has been some great actors who weren't trained, Ricky Gervais and I think Eddie Murphy was more of a stand up but I don't think he was trained
It’s not so much about being a trained actor, as a career actor though. If someone is just thrown in a film cause they’re famous for an unrelated reason, it’s annoying. And McGregor was shite!
I can only imagine how frustrating and disheartening it must be as an actor to have famous celebrities view your entire livelihood as something “they’d fancy having a go at” and then to immediately get to just pick and choose their projects. Im guessing it must be the same for children’s authors whenever they see celebrities suddenly coming out with their own books and getting published left and right.
Of course there is plenty of 'ghost written' novels when the book will sell 10x more with a celebrities name on the cover rather than the 'real' writer.
I think Jake Gyllenhaal was the highlight of the film, but I did find the whole Conor MacGregor a bit strange. In terms of film trailers I’m pretty much meh on them I don’t think you are missing much in terms of films I avoid most blockbuster films I mean though I don’t believe in the star rating though if they get 4 and above I guess I will make an effort to see them though doubt they are that high, but below or less or if there is time to kill I see them. With drama again if it’s 4 or 5 I will make the effort. Actually one was 3 once so I guess I will make the effort still if it’s 3 sometimes but 2 forget it usually. Films on streaming like this one if there’s nothing to do.
I just saw that! My thoughts are that it leans into the worst of recent Superhero suit design. It looks like a wetsuit, but whatever. It’s hardly going to be made for me 🤷♂️ DC
I'm curious how his Superman is going to turn out. I like they've gone for a less high profile actor [David Coresnwet] and they were right to ditch the old DCU continuity and I enjoyed the Guardians' films and his suicide squad but I'd rather it was just a Superman film, not setting up other characters [originally it was going to be stand alone like Robert Pattinson's Batman].
@jamesatkinsonja I agree with all of that! And I will say that the colours on the suit are at least vibrant (under the stains). I just really don’t want a “gritty” Superman. That Dark Knight treatment just doesn’t work! The red trunks appear to be back though. So that’s good 🤷♂️
There is also the argument that stunt casting sometimes helps the movie get made: it brings in the audience. If the research says McGregor will bring in $10m, then $5.5 is worth it
I get that, that’s the theory. But I really don’t think that’s as lucrative as they say. The audiences for influencers are not the same. It’s like assuming that fans of a dart champion would turn out to watch them play tennis. Some would…but…🤷♂️
@@ValVerdeBroadcasting It's like when they put Ronda Rousey in Expendables 3. Were fans of a female MMA fighter in her 20's really going to be interested in a franchise featuring 50+ aged male actors who's heyday was in the 80's?
If this stunt-casting of “famous”/viral non-actors continues unabated then it’s only a matter of time till we have a Harriet Tubman biopic starring Ice Spice in the titular role 🫠🫠🫠
No more please for the love of God. That was one of the worst performances I've seen in a lot of years if you can even define it as such. This entire film was a blunder for me. You can call the original corny or cheesy, but it had something this one lacked, memorable characters due to great performances and solid character actors. Sprinkled with that quintessential 80s action charm. A lot of people overlook that Joel Silver had a hand in producing the original, and he was firmly in his producing peak.
Glad to see you back. I respect you've got other priorities but it's always great to see a video from you.

Very strong Father Fintan Stack vibes to the performance.
Well he did take someone’s car and drive it into a big wall 🤷♂️
Duncan, a great talk, really enjoyed listening, made some good points!
I also like to hear your thoughts on Beverly Hills Cop 4 in July if you can.

The character of Wade Garrett is easily the show stealer from the original. Oh, n’ great to see you back Duncan.
Very well articulated and balanced points 👍

Yeah, I've been reading good things about that show.
Connor McGregor shouldn’t be in anything. He’s a bellend.
This video could have been so much shorter 😂👍🏻

Agree!
It’s all about trading on established IP. From sequels to remakes to stunt casting, established IP comes with a built-in audience.$$$

Duncan's hair looks cool.
That's all I've got to say. Stay cool, VVB 👍
[Kick] KEEP THE CHANGE! *Road House.*
Is that a Family Guy reference?
@@ValVerdeBroadcasting I couldn't resist.
Besides. Last time I checked, Lucy from Peanuts wasn't a licensed therapist! [Kick] *Road House.*

James Gunn just droped an image of the new superman suit. Could we get your thoughts?

The short answer is NO, NO he fucking shouldn't!!
The problem is conor has been on a 2 year coke and roid binge and this is how he really is now.
