    For everyone wondering about the takedown. I've got you!
    I've filmed the process twice now but I'm taking a while to edit and upload it - apologies for that. Provided I don't leave them in for longer than 4 weeks, the takedown is pretty smooth. It takes a while to remove them but there's no locking or meshing and the hair is in a pretty detangled state, even after having been washed up to 3 times. It's honestly the best takedown I've experienced. To do this, I cover my hair with coconut oil well in advance of a takedown session and I use conditioner on top of that. I spread my takedown sessions out across a few days and I'm able to remove the locs with minimal breakage. This is still my favourite style for this reason. Imagine being able to remove a 4-week old style that you've washed up to 3 times (with clay) with minimal breakage!!! This is a revolution.
    I recommend you do a 'loc' test every so often by attempting to push your finger through some locs. If you struggle, it means your hair is locking. My hair always passed the loc tests. Hope this helps!

      Some Natural hair icons say do not wash in protective styles. They say take down protective styles and detangle first before washing. Ms. Tannish 1 says this to avoid excessive tangling.

    Making the clay wash running is definitely a great idea. I was concerned that it would get stuck in the locs but that solves it. Thank you so much for sharing, I'll try your technique of using clay wash instead of black soap next time I wash my locs. ❤️❤️❤️

    • @NaturallyHigh
      @NaturallyHigh  4 роки тому +5

      It works really well. I'm not sure if you spotted it, but in this video I didn't manage to get all the clay out. That's not because I couldn't get it out but rather because I was filming and not looking in the mirror enough :/ Normally I don't have so much residue. I've actually just bought some black soap so I'm going to try using that (on a small section) next time I wash. I'm curious to see if It knots up my hair.

    I've had mini twists since Labor Day, taking advantage of that long weekend to put them in. I moisturize, refresh my scalp (w aloe vera), wash and keep my hair stretched nightly - all while keeping the mini twists in. I plan to take the mini twists out in early January so I'm just thinking through my game plan for the take down and wash.

      @@NaturallyHigh I started experimenting out of desperation, shea moisture discontinued my favorite Deep conditioner, and Amazon shipping prices are sometimes double than the actual product costs, I was not about to spend a fortune buying products that my hair would potentially reject. It was a happy discovery though. My hair felt amazingly soft, and moisturised, and it held that feeling for the full week. if you try it, go for the less fibrous variety of avocado, and strain it as much as possible.

      Well you can comb out actual locs , so she should be fine

    • @NaturallyHigh
      @NaturallyHigh  3 роки тому +2

      @@Babybookieboo thank you for chiming in. I have to disagree with the idea that because actual locs can be combed out, there's nothing to fear when installing twists/plaits long term. Just as with removing actual locs, removing old twists can cause damage to the hair. This is because ages styles tend to mat, mesh and tangle meaning that: 1) higher forces are needed to remove knots (or more patience); and 2) some knots are unremovable. Afro hair is already delicate. Even if your hair isn't breaking when you handle it, you are still inflicting damage. This is why it is important to find the optimum amount of manipulation necessary for the maintenance of your hair.

  • @FromAto4z
    @FromAto4z 4 роки тому +2

    Do you normally use shea butter in your hair? How often do you apply it? I find that shea butter is very good at keeping the hair from matting. My hair doesn't really like it so I couldn't use it on wet hair like you just did, but your technique is helping me to strategize my next attempt with the temporary locs.

    • @NaturallyHigh
      @NaturallyHigh  3 роки тому

      This is a good question. I honestly apply it when my hair 'feels' like it needs something thick and creamy as opposed to a lighter leave-in. So next time you'll use it on damp hair? So glad this could be of help to you!

      @@NaturallyHigh almost forgot what I put in!!! LOL! Warning, this is long. Run while you still can! Here we go. Coconut oil, avocado oil, grapeseed pil, a smidgen of olive oil, a little of a brand called Hot Six oil, distilled water, Suave almond and shea butter conditioner, a ton of shea butter and shea nut oil. I also add a bunch of essential oils like peppermint, lavender, sage, rosemary, rosehip seed, tea tree, anise for scent and properties. They're only in small amounts put in to my goop, the majority of ingredients is the coconut oil and blah, blah, blah! I find acv mixed with distilled water and one or two essential oils works to detangle my hair as well as moisturize it before I use my penetrating oils (the same carrier oils as above) that sink in, then I slather on the goop and work it into my hair, followed with castor oil. The moment it starts feeling dry, more water/acv is lightly spritzed on, and I work it in. I blot my oily hair with paper towels and put it up into some teeny ponytail and call it a day as I live my life. My hair is an acacia tree, a saguaro cactus; no such thing as too much oil and water for it...
