I don’t understand why this is even a debate? Why can’t fba be proud of who we are? We get told we have no culture then when we establish we do have culture and create culture every few months we get told we’re wrong for it

Cultures are not created in a vacuum. They tend to cross pollinate with other cultures. Especially African American cultures here in the US. Who ever said black people in the US don’t have a culture is just stupid. Talk tot any anthropologist and they straight up will tell U black Americans have a beautiful vibrant culture. He’s the catch fba heads . It’s a culture built on what!
Non-FBA folks need to tap out of the conversation especially since we literally sacrificed for all others to benefit. Our concerns with this country is legitimate and for others to speak on our issues is out of pocket. Just go to work, take care of your families, and mind your business. We will handle our business, that’s what Tariq is saying and I agree. We don’t go to other people’s country and interfere with your stuff.

I'm old enough to verify that Tariq is correct in his assessment of Luther Campbell. Kid 'N Play & Salt 'N Pepa were the only ones in real time back in the late 80's to check Luke on the disparaging music that Luke Skywalker was putting out.
Salt N Pepa did, but Kid N Play caught shots from Luke for just being in the vicinity (literally) when Salt N Pepa made those comments. Kid explained this. Luke being emotional again and not paying attention to who said what.

I find myself listening to Dead Prez - Hip-Hop and then everything comes back to normal.
When Farrakhan and other Black immigrants came into Black American communities pre-civil rights, they ACTUALLY assimilated, with understanding and respect. They had no choice, their numbers were extremely low and it was in their best political and survival interests to fully assimilate. Due to their low numbers, their assimilation didn’t negatively impact FBA folk. They benefited from us back then, even if they contributed to our political plight.
Today, the Black immigrant numbers are way up and growing. They have the option to operate as their own groups. And as we know, they are doing just that, really since the 70’s and 80’s. With their numbers being so high, lumping us all together is negatively impacting Black Americans. It’s appropriate to disaggregate the groups so FBA’s political needs are met. FBA’s political needs and goals are different and sometimes in opposition to Black immigrants. The only thing we have in common is anti-Blackness.
It’s comparing apples to oranges using Farrakhan and any other Black immigrant who were here before the late 60’s/early 70’s. The context of the scenarios are different.
All non-FBA’s, tell us why y’all cannot run your own country effectively? Why run here and run your mouths about how your culture and country is so much better…..while living here!

As a descendant of African slaves in America (traced back to South Carolina) and African slaves in the Caribbean (Union Island/Trinidad and Tobago), I love this conversation and how it peeks my interest.
Have to be honest I cannot support any actions by someone in a position to lead that is as oppositional to creating constructive dialogue as “tether”.
IMHO, the larger discussion SHOULD have started with the fact there is not A BLACK community. Black is a catchall label applied to people of color that have as diverse a set of culture ancestry as America itself.
Black is used to describe race, which is based on physical traits only. The ethnic diversity of those of us that are Black is tremendous.
I view what is happening now with FBA and has been happening from other Blacks to African-Americans as a continuation of the dilution of power.
The quickest way to stir discontent is start to identify as US while pointing at THEM.
Non-Blacks will continue to see us as a group and instead of striving to utilize the perceived force that represents, we will continue to argue of jersey colors, who attended training camp, what positions have more prestige or cache…
ANYONE putting energy into in-fighting while we have our history being removed from curricula needs to evaluate their priorities.

The term "Tether" can come across as derogatory, even if that’s not the intent. When we create labels for groups we’re not a part of, especially when there’s tension between the groups, those labels often end up being used negatively. It’s similar to how the term "Akata" can be perceived. You’re unlikely to hear someone say, “Burna Boy is amazing, these tethers sure know how to make good music” unless they’re being sarcastic or condescending. The term naturally takes on a divisive tone.
That’s why is important for Africans to not refer to Black Americans as Akata. It’s always better to refer to people by the names or terms they use for themselves. It’s important to move away from language that can create unnecessary divisions.

I agree with that 100%.

I've been called tether too. Just like i've been called other names. I think it's all in how you handle it. I can't internalize everything I've been called on the internet.
In regard to your last statement about what kind of leader we need, Tariq ain't it. He's too divisive, and he's not a real intellectual. If we want reparations we aren't going to get it by telling people not to vote every four years and doing nothing in between. We need organization and solidarity, and leaders that are knowledgeable about political theory. History has shown us what works and what doesn't.
We are organizing and not voting
@@mrworkowt5419No we're not organizing, not anywhere near on the level we need to be to get anything done. Tariq says ahistorical sh*t all the time, and clowns like Umar are still popular. Stop kidding yourself.
Tariq has clearly said vote for who you want..He said he wasn't voting..That's his business..Don't lie and say he is telling ppl not to vote
The word tether comes from the movie US and Tariq flipped it, which was brilliant
To be honest, Tariq has done a wonderful job of introducing the definition of tether and defining what it means although we can't allow people to paint him as a leader of the experience.
Tariq has a lot of compromising issues of his past and questionable narratives and issues of a lot of comments that have been known to completely cross the line but his work shall stand as it is for the people and we have to be clear about that.
And we have to back him up when it's time to back him up because of all the work he has done regardless of any character or personal shots that people may take at him.
I think Uncle Puke is a great representation for the Caribbean. I'd like to thank Uncle Puke for legitimizing debauchery and other BS, while simultaneously not owning his art.
Tariq is not someone that I would follow or take seriously, hes always been an opporunist and a scammer IMO. This FBA thing that he started is a grift off of the ADOS movement. ADOS started this conversation and it has been focused on delineation for the purposes of getting reparations.
The conversation is needed insofar as its productive for Black Americans. Reparations is a productive, policy orientated goal. For example, Tariq has undetermined the work of ADOS when they were lobbying the Census Bureau trying to get better disaggregation of the Black category in the survey. So he worked against what he now says he believes.
Its not a productive conversation when youre telling people not to vote for Harris based on her immigrant background. We dont need to be evaluating politicians based on identity, we need to focus on their record, what theyre promising and who the alternative is. Trump being in office should be a nonstarter for any Black person with a platform, so anyone encouraging Black people not to vote for her is suspect to me. Luke also got to know Harris and came out and apologized, did a video with her talking about the way she has been misunderstood. Much like DL Hugley he's probably getting heated because of all the misinformation people like Tariq thrive off of pushing for his own benefit. This is why its best to stay off twitter, Elon is also juicing the algorithm to highten/push more bots to this stuff because it helps Trump. I dont understand why self respecting Black people use that platform knowing its run by a racist.
Thieves Slaves & Opportunity 😮
How did Tariq undermine the census?
@TheCompanyMan ADOS organized their people to support a formal request to disaggregate the Black/Af American category. The Census Bureau opened a comment period on the proposal and Traiq had his people go in and flood the comments saying they were against it because they wanted the category to be named foundational black American. Basically he is trying to take over the branding from ADOS so the Census decided not to move forward with the proposal.

Tariq's wife, tether being for all immigrants, Rizza Islam not following Farrakhan. He is also lying about Tariq working for Trump. He lumped #ADOS with FBA and called Tariq, Yvette's leader. Then, when Yvette told him that #ADOS came first and Tariq took FBA from #ADOS, you could literally see his gears churning because he knew he could use it against Tariq. When Yvette tried to shift the conversation to policy, Luke started deflecting, trolling, and fillibustering. The man was just an evil mess. I could see this brewing back when he had the cordial conversation with Tariq. Tariq would make a point that he couldn't refute, then Luke would always spin it to argue that we need to vote for Democrats anyway. You could see the cognitive dissonance back then. Luke is an example of how the Democratic Party would rather keep a Sambo budget to lie to black voters than to offer real policies of empowerment.

Luke is trolling. Comparing himself and Kamala to Farrakhan and Malcolm X? Insanely disrespectful.
Luke was incorrect in some of his comments but was right in his assessment. Much of the FBA and other things are solely about segregation. And it's very much a white mediocritist standing. I get it. Some black folks want to be in a bucket to be above someone. and the way they act is solely and only done by black folks to black folks. All Caribbean means is those enslaved were dropped off first. And many of us who think we are "foundational" have ties to the Caribbean.
Even the word foundational is suspect. Because our lineage and history doesn't and has never started with enslavement. Dr Greg carr has a great discussion on this. And this topic is literally just a way to encapsulate capitalistic classism.
We have no ties to Africa bro, we been over here for over 400 years my ancestors are American and I’m proud of that

I have to correct you. Slavery in the US was vastly different to slavery in the Caribbean and South America. In the US, the enslaved were bred while the enslaved in SA and the Caribbean were worked to death and replaced. By the end of the slave trade, 94% of the US enslaved were born there, compared to only 30% native born in much of the rest of the diaspora. This allowed the US enslaved to create a distinct culture that developed almost immediately after the first ship landed. That 400 year cultural history is what got FBA through slavery, Reconstruction, Jim Crow and was foundational for the Civil Rights Movement and later legislation that all members of the diaspora now benefit from.
Out of that culture also came jazz, rock and hip-hop. It was our cuisine white chefs learned (see High on the Hog) and our language that everyone imitates. I think FBAs really just want people to respect the creators of those and many other gifts. FBA culture is the only one in the world expected to be shared without acknowledging that it comes from a very specific heritage and a very specific people. We want you to put respect on our name.
As far as Tariq and FBA as a movement, it leans toward misogyny and hotepishness too much for me to engage, but the idea behind it is an admirable one.
Cook bro
@@bmillersince92 who is "we"? And are you sure that YOUR lineage is 1619 America? Or are you guessing?
Respectability politics does not work
Dang the Aaron McGruder part is crazy. Kinda scary. Really ominous. Never seen that before.
EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH THE VIDEO OF AARON MCGRUDER AT THE END. That is the MESSAGE!!!!
BIGFAX.
The court case bro!! Yes he did!!
Hell yah Unkle Luke is the main reason why hip hop has turned into thot rap!
He's definitely the pioneer of it. And he wants his check.
My 2024 BINGO card is in shambles!!! Like if you could’ve guessed this situation, you’d definitely win Powerball and Mega Millions.
RIGHT!!!
Some people like to say that slavery was a choice. Well I say, is getting preparations or intangibles of choice? We've been free for about 160 years and we still don't have reparations yet. At a certain point, we have to look at our self being part of the problem
I don't think so when it comes to reparations. The only time black people in this country received tangibles was when a gaggle of white people were unalived: The civil war. The vietnam war/anti-war/civil rights movement coalescing at the same time.
@@TheCompanyMan yeah, but we have yet to show them that we are very serious about getting reparations.blacks are still arguing about the term "tether" and what it means, or wanting to vote for Kamala Harris because she is a "black " woman. If you're really serious about getting reparations, you get it done plain and simple. There have been groups that are serious about getting their agenda across ,like the Palestinians, who will probably get reparations before we do. But they have a smaller voting base than we have.
Why is the comment section so angry on the Tariq topics⁉️
Luke may have brought vulgar lyrics and coochie poppin to Hip-Hop; but explicit lyrics have been in Black American music for at least 100 years.
Go back and check out some of the dorty Jazz songs. "Shave 'Em Dry" by Lucille Bogan was released in rhe 1930s.
all this tariq hate goin on you woulda thought his last name was st patrick lmao
The FBA identity is tribalism that wants to validate just a single heritage. People of African descent were the opportunity worldwide, and it was just not in the USA, the reparations applies to all places. When our communities were still oppressed in the past century, there was a lot of solidarity and the tribal sensibilities feed into the confederate desire to keep people of African descent marginalised. There is need to set aside the Willie Lynch mentality of amplification of small differences and ignore the greater commonality we share.
Uncle Luke faced discrimination because of his ethnicity and choice of business coming up, but celebrations of sexuality are part of the heritage of indigenous peoples that Abrahamic religions suppress. In this way, Uncle Luke made a huge contribution to freedom and diversity.Over the years, he has gotten involved in community activism and is prominent in the blue team. I find Mr Tariq divisive or as Justin said polarising and excluded from his work as he gives grifter vibes.
'Tether' is so freaking played out & is extremely divisive.
It's the same tactics used when calling you cis male.
No one gonna like it, and he's working for the enemy to divide us.
😂😂😂I love it.
Can you explain that concept to me?
And does absolutely nothing for us besides trying to win a losing game of oppression olympics
@@cazrethomasNo. We were losing when we realized people were undermining our trauma and history in our own homeland. Which is why anyone else is even allowed here - To dilute. You don’t understand and that’s exactly why we don’t need people like you. Whatever your lineage.
I’ve been cool with Luke post two live crew, but I’ve always thought he hurt blacks with his music for the most part. Even as a kid I felt that way. Stop playing man.
New Orleans Bounce is fba music and thats where twerking started in America.
This guy has a literal "trap museum" and he's talking about who's bringing "degeneracy" to the culture lmao foh
Is Luke aware of Rizza Islam's workout routine? Luke don't want no smoke with Rizza.
Luke has been paid off, that is why the sudden change.
Paid by who
Tariq probably should check his own background a bit. The same style of crucifixion he spitting, Tariq dipped his own toes in the degenerate pool as well. All is fair in hip-hop and war.
Maybe one day us so called Tethers can turn the name around into a term of endearment?🤔
It's all happening🏆
The Luketilian Agenda 🦎🦎🦎
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I had a busy day yesterday and somehow missed this. I want to start off by saying that the breakdown of culture vulture was perfect. Post Malone is absolutely the poster boy for being a culture vulture. Getting on to Luke v. Tariq, Tariq is correct regarding Luke's crazy assertion that he is even in the conversation with Malcom X at all. It's great that he fought for free speech and all that, but what is he saying most often that has any kind of substance? His comments about female rappers were wild. Look, I get being hurt and lashing out at Tariq's commentary. It can be a bit dismissive. But is the anger possibly because deep down somewhere Luke knows it's kind of true? I must say the remark about normalizing degeneracy was absolutely brutal but quite frankly an oversimplification. It takes a lot more than just one man to do that sort of thing. I believe if you look past Tariq's delivery his message is just asking for some respect from anyone who hasn't descended from people that've been in the US since day one. It's hard enough just being PoC in the US, so I'm pretty sure his intent is not to be divisive. McGruder's observations about moral currency were dead on.
Damn, title really does say it all. This lbj pickpocket shit is exhausting...
Your laugh Is so catchy 😂😂😂
This is all about American reparations
Last year Tariq did a space with Luke and explained FBA movement and the tether term down to the teeth so Luke fully understands the movement but as a personal problem with the term tether relating to other diaspora Africans who obstruct the African-American political agenda
