  • I was having issues with our Suzuki Quadrunner LT125 wanting to bog and die out when trying to give it throttle. This has sat not running for 3+ years so it was no surprise to me that it needed the carb cleaned. Here is how you can tear down, clean, reassemble, and reinstall a carburetor on your LT125.

I grew up with one of these (since it was new in 1983)
The plunger on the side is a primer. you pull it out and let it go back in itself(NEVER PUSH) until it stays out.
When these things get grumpy to start, look at THE AIR FILTER
These things are like 40 years old. If you have the original air filter, it is probably not cleaning out properly anymore. A lot of people don;t even think to clean the filters up.
The carbs are ultra simple and almost never fail unless you are trying to restore a junkyard quad that sat outside in the weather for the last 10 years. Suzuki's quality(and Honda) in the 80's was top shelf, no corners cut. Keep ethanol gas out of them, keep them inside if you can, get it started once a month and it will run.

I didn't know that about the primer! I knew it was one, but not to pull only. My kids are riding it right now over the long weekend here in the USA. Great machine

I’ve got the 185 version, thanks for posting! The knob by the choke plunger is the enrichener for cold temps. You’ve still got the sticker on the fender that lists the temperature for when to pull it out. Watch out for your tank vent line so it’s not getting pinched shut by the seat.

Michael Knight that’s interesting, there were a ton of 185’s in Valdez back in ‘84. The local dealer sold over 70 Quadrunners that year, the highest number for any dealer in Alaska. Pretty amazing as the town only had around 5000 people back then.

Yes, that is a primer and the diaphram is bad since gas is pouring out the vent. Thankfully they are cheap online.

Thanks for this. By chance, can you look at your headlight assy and see if there's any part numbers on it?

Is there a way to put slightly taller tires on the front because every time I take a turn the front tires come off the ground

I would say yes, so long as the rim size matches. However you could run into clearance issues when turning. (Rubbing) Have you checked to ensure you have the PSI set correctly? Lowering the PSI may help.

I’m missing the black ring on the throttle do you know how I can get one?

Do you mean the clip that helps adjust the depth on the throttle? Either way, a carb rebuild kit probably has the piece you want. ~$11 on amazon for a rebuild kit.

Replace it. The rubber has hardened and cracked or has torn most likely. Mine did as well, here is what I replaced it with.
