After all the searching that I have done research on BMW Z4 You’ve done the first video that ever says this. And here is me been doing searches for Z4s with cruise control!
Very useful vid, I did this mod myself a year ago as you demonstrated fairly easy to do. I didn't fancy cutting out my cowling so got one with the stalk for £90. Also fitted heated seats which was a simple but a pricey reto-fit, well worth it to extend top down time, highly recommend! Looking forward to seeing what you'll be fitting to yours in the future.
Nice one Joel, thanks for sharing! I always assumed some software would have needed enabling/installing and never thought any more about retro fitting cruise control.
Ergonomically, pressing the indicator (instead of cruise control button) is intuitive. Buying the cruise control unit direct from BMW, a new steering cowl fascia panel is included in the kit. Costs c. £200 complete, though!
Good price for the stalk at 60 pound they are over 100 on ebay, been tiring to get hold one for ages at that price seen a couple on the forum but always lost out. Mine is 2004 3.0 se, so it will be the same to do. Thanks for video on how easy it is, I'll keep looking for the part, however the demand will go up now lol
Great video and i can relate to this because my DIY skills are even worse than your dads 😂 proves that anyone can do it 👍🏼 looking forward to seeing what mods you have planned next
Well done lads but before everyone starts ripping their cowls off the loom is not fitted after 10/04 so its a rewire job if their car is later than that.
If you Google the BMW Z4 retro fit instructions it will tell you. Mine is an 05 and has no loom. Just trying to be helpful don't buy until you check the loom is fitted. You can buy the loom if you haven't got one. There would be no reason to sell it if all z4s had it. Cheers
Brilliant video Joel, I must point out this is only for the 04 models and below, 05 models don't have the wiring loom and will need to install that themselves like mine :( Keep up the great vids though!
Joel can you do a video on the soft top issues with motor breaking and how to take the roof off etc. Probs a lot of hassle but thought I would ask. Good vids as always.
Have you had troubles with your roof motor Thomas? Mine's still going strong, but a mate of mine, who has the same aged Z, has had to have a new one fitted recently. It's because the drains around the back get blocked over time and the motor sits in a pool of water. I've got all the details if you want them?
Thomas de Vries right then brother, my mate paid £500 for a new roof, £200 for a new motor and then he followed instructions from the bmw Z4 forum to remove the roof, motor and then install the new ones. It took him roughly 6 hours to do it all following online written instructions. Type “BMW soft top instillation,” into google and there’s a UA-cam video and a webpage detailing the process. Let me know if you can’t find them my friend and I’ll send the address’ for them to your email. Best of luck :)
Good vid mate. I've not got cruise and I've always been curious on how easy it was to fit, like people said. Actually had no idea it was that easy. Will defo be bunging it on mine. Oh yeah, I did cringe a bit when I saw u old man running the Stanley knife towards his thumb 🙈🙈🙈🙈. Hope u gonna get involved with Z4 950 this july on the Z4 groups events page.
Hi. Nice to meet you. This is Akira from Japan. I'm also the owner of the black Z4 3.0i. Your Z4 is very nice exhaust sound and the manual transmission is enviable. And recently, I want to install Cruise Control on my own Z4 as well. Is it OK just connect the lever to the steering? If my English was wrong,I'm sorry.
Great video guys. Very helpful for those needing a little inspiration to add this feature. Can I ask what is that device in your dads car lighter? It’s fancy looking!
Also Joel! Reference a previous video on the Carly App, can you program single touch indicator to flash three times? Does that make sense? Ironic I know, BMW drivers talking about indicators. Hey! I'm trying to be a brand ambassador!
Probably no. Zed's before October 2004 had the wiring for the criuse control, but no stalk in it. Ater October 2004 there is no wiring for cruise control,so you have to add extra wiring plus stalk.
"Who gives a crap-premium TP" If you get the unit from the stealers, they give you a pre-cut cowl. also. the instructions are not good at all. (post face lift retrofit) Also, the connections are rubbish. My solution, solder and heat wrap the connections, you'll know if the connections aren't working as the cruise won't work and your brake lights will always be on. There is plenty of information and many helpful people on the Z4forum, Congrats on the video, first I've seen.

Thanks for watching Michael, stay tuned for the mods on my Z4
£90 4 years ago….. £180 for the stalk alone now….
Great job. Very nice to see a father & son video. You made my day.
Crazy how the Z3s and Z4s all have the full looms so you can retro-fit pretty much anything. Great video!
Thanks!
Nice one Joel, thanks for sharing! I always assumed some software would have needed enabling/installing and never thought any more about retro fitting cruise control.
Really enjoyable to see a little mod performed by you and your dad on the drive. Great video and entertaining as well as educational. Cheers Joel
Glad you enjoyed it
Now THIS is valuable
Thanks for watching

£60 for the stalk is a great price. Good vid once again 👍🏻
Thank you

A dremel and a cutting disc will do the cowling job properly 👌the wiring is all there on pre-facelift cars only.
Not on E85 facelift models then? Mine’s a ‘56 2.5 si sport. Any ideas for the retro fit there?
Just seen the answer I was looking for in another post. Thanks.
Oh, and thanks to your Dad too, of course!
I just bought a z4 without cruise control and came across this. Got to do this myself now
Great video and i can relate to this because my DIY skills are even worse than your dads 😂 proves that anyone can do it 👍🏼 looking forward to seeing what mods you have planned next
I’m going to do this! Great vid 👍🏻
Awesome! Thanks for watching dude
Brilliant video Joel and Dad, can't find the device on ebay for £60.
Watching your dad cutting that was painful 😂
I concur lol. But he still got the job done 👍🏻
At least you didn’t have to edit it as well 😂
Let’s just say your talents lie elsewhere than diy 😂
Good job! I Added myself cruise control one year ago. It's one of the simpliest retrofit in e85. Greetings!
Oh and Dad did a great job of cutting out the blanking plate on the cowling......
I feel like everyone of a certain age has a workbench like that 😂👍 usually Black & Decker
Well done lads but before everyone starts ripping their cowls off the loom is not fitted after 10/04 so its a rewire job if their car is later than that.
George Sharman are you sure?
My 07 BMW Z4 3.0L Si coupe had the loom fitted.

Next vid: Here's how to retrofit twin turbos to an E85 generation BMW Z4!
Big up The Range Aldershot.

Hi Joe create video Fitting Cruise Control , 1 question does it need programming to work ? Regards

Red House Blues Duo cool. Thanks. I figured it was Bluetooth transmitter but had never seen that model. Really cool looking.
Ordering that right now!
Hi
Does anyone know if this would work on a 57 reg E86? I can't seem to get a definitive answer...
Also Joel! Reference a previous video on the Carly App, can you program single touch indicator to flash three times? Does that make sense? Ironic I know, BMW drivers talking about indicators. Hey! I'm trying to be a brand ambassador!
Just watched this video. Going to check my 53 plate for the connector...............
Good video mate!
Thanks Andras
What all Collums come on the steering wheel?
I will be doing this! Thank god your dad still has his thumb 😂
Can anyone give me a definite answer please..... can a retrofit cruise control be fitted to the 2.0 litre e85? It's a 55 plate.
does the cruise control also have speed limiter function?
Where did you buy it. Seen them used for around £90
Anyone got a link to the parts needed to retrofit cruise control?
Any idea if this is the same on coupe’s? I’m getting one with no cruise, hope I can just do the same...
Probably no. Zed's before October 2004 had the wiring for the criuse control, but no stalk in it. Ater October 2004 there is no wiring for cruise control,so you have to add extra wiring plus stalk.
Brilliant video!!!!
So the wiring is definatly there on the pre-face lift zeds?
Cheers Joel nice vid 👌

oh damn, this looks easy unfortunately I can't find a control stick that isn't several hundred pounds XD
Did this on mine almost 4 years ago, well worth it too. I will have a switch for sale in the near future if anyone is interested?
Interested mate. Is it still available
Nick G It will be after the 13th. March for £90 posted to UK.
How much
That's your Dad? I thought it was an older brother.
I think the no brains on the cutting front is a bye bye from me
Bye!
I think I'm in the minority in that I never use my cruise hah! I have big feet and long legs, it's more comfortable to just do it myself :p
