For obvious reason, this will be the last episode of PDGDBAB for a while. Please understand and appreciate the delay in more unboxing books.
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! These are premium, top quality vids!!!!! It doesn't get better than this!!! 🤣
Check out the new swedish covers for LotR and the hobbit. They are the most beautiful thing ever!
Was about to say "make sure this doesn't turn into PDGDBCV" when I saw this video in my feed. That wouldn't be as much fun.
Hey, Daniel, do you have the Wheel of Time graphic novels?
You didn’t get the bomb I sent you 😔
So, in the same video, Daniel got referred to as "Daddy", hit on by one of his Patreon subscribers, and sent jockstraps. *The thirst is real!* 🤣
hahahahah you know he will try them secretly
I'm just waiting for that one video to come titled "It was a bomb." with Daniel standing in the black charred aftermath of what used to be his apartment.
Matthew C i love that he would be so dedicated to this that he would still upload that video.
@@kb-ih7ni 🤣🤣🤣 omfg hilarious
Don't worry Daniel. Your neighbours won't mind what phrases you're shouting. They already think you're super weird by now.
I sent Black Moon Rising and Amazon forgot my note. Likely it was simply "please enjoy this published Reylo fanfic"
Ooh have you seen Jenny Nicholsen's review of this?!
When you said "I all not a serial killer" and you're wearing the gloves with that shirt 😄 that was a total Dexter vibe.
I am not a serial killer was written by Dan Wells, one of Brandon Samderson’s best friends who he’s known for like 20 years & they got into writing together & co-Host Writing Excuses (which is a very good podcast you should check out).
I am not a serial killer has got good King vibes I think you’d like it
It’s a stand alone (but there are many sequels that have an over character arc)
I believe he mentioned it one of his lectures.
Yep, it's an entertaining read! And the film is, surprisingly, decent as well!
The Series is two trilogies: I am Not A Serial Killer, Mr Monster (Do not read with Pips), I Don't Want to Kill You. The Second is The Devils Only Friend, Over your Dead Body, and Nothing Left to Lose. I am pushing him to make another trilogy.... The Movie stars Christopher Lloyd.
Writing excuses is great... need to read Wells’ series
@@Grimscribe732 Thank you.
"I keep forgetting to do spankings .." and "Give me a big boy every time" - Wait. Is this a booktube channel I've subscribed to ?
😂😂😂✊
Yes, would definitely like to hear your take on special editions. I personally have nothing but positive experiences with Folio Society.
"The Shootist" is a Sci-Fi Western movie with John Wayne in it....
“I don’t like that at all” ok daddy Daniel... lol
Those “eastern fantasy” books look like light novels. Basically manga in book version.
Marcus Smith honestly only light novel series I’ve ever read is KonoSuba
@@stevemadden3642 Missing out. Baccano, Kino no Tabi, Monogatari, Zaregoto, boogiepop, and Crest of the Stars are the only ones I've read and they're all fantastic. Also really gotta read Re:Zero, index, oregairu, worldend, 86, overlord, haruhi, no game no life, legend of the galatctic hero, shield hero, the two sent to Dan, and a load of others. One day... already have a library of countless books I've yet to read.
Specifically Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash (which has a well known and well regarded animated adaption) and Magic User: Reborn in Another World as a Max Level Wizard (which I've never heard of before but has good reviews from a small sample size).
Mark AnthonyDT I’ve watched shield hero, haven’t read it yet.
Sorry about four paragraph essay dude 😅 Kinda got carried away. Hopefully it doesn't deter you from looking up Code "Geese" 🦆 Thanks for being a good sport!
The two manga like books you received are called Light Novels. Light Novels are essentially the Japanese evolution of old pulp magazines.
I'd love to see you do a review of The Magicians. This is one of the rare cases where I think the TV show is definitely better than the books, but the books are still pretty good.
This episode!! Watch DADDY DANIEL Spank some thick sexy books!!
Knife work is optional.
I'm glad you liked my cover art! I feel a little cheated you didn't spank my book but the compliments more than made up for it! :)
Code "Geese"... I guess Pip is going to start with that one. ;-)
The Mirror Visitor is quite fun. I personally enjoyed the world building (and even more the twist it gets in book 2) the most about it. "God broke the world apart" (not a spoiler, legit the first sentence of the first book). + Code Geass is especially interesting for the psychological arc of the characters
Grimgar is an Isekai (a genre wherein people from our world get magically transported to another, usually a Fantasy setting) about a group of people who suddenly find themselves in a fantasy world with no memories from before their arrival, and chronicles their struggles to survive and make a life for themselves as goblin slayers. I've seen the anime and it's pretty good!
Ice dragons are in certain legends (I think China or Japan but definietely in the Asian culture) and Norse had a form of ice dragon/drake/wyvern whatever in their legends.
A few folktales have them.
Mercedes Lackey who does the Heralds of Valdemar stuff has cold-drakes which if I remember like are draconic-like beings. But its been awhile since I've read her stuff so I'm not completely sure.
Those are light novels, they are the book equivalent of manga, often adapted into anime.
Starring Daniel Greene as Dexter Morgan 😂
In this episode of Daniel (Daddy) Greene goes insane we learn that everything is in fact, not fine
7:48 denial
12:14 predicts the future
We need a Pips cam.
Just an observation. What Daniel Greene is wearing here is the same as the one he is wearing while reviewing the book Sandman with Merphy. This probably means this boy works hard round the clock. He reviews a book then he gets books from the mail to unbox. This is real hardwork, you can't fake that.
Folio Society books are honestly a total different level. I really really want their editions of Neil Gaiman's American Gods and Anansi Boys but the price... (they are so worth it though! love buying them as presents)
black moon rising must have been a joke, the only thing i heard about this book is that it's a shitty reylo fanfiction lmao
Patrycja Trzósło i saw Jenny Nicholson’s review of it and I wish I could see Daniels face when he reads the first page 😂
@@kaliloon i saw jenny's video too!! that's why i was like 'wait... i recognize it from somewhere'
Patrycja Trzósło That video from Jenny made me laugh so hard. I was wheezing by the end of it lol. 😂
i came immediately to the comments right after he opened this package to see if black moon rising was that book. no wonder they didn't leave a note... XD jenny's review of it is sooo good.
what’s reylo?
Anarchy! He doesn't know what Code Geass is!!!!
I think Jason Hancock sounds familiar bc John Hancock had the biggest signature on the constitution
I loved a Winter's promise. It's a French fantasy story in 4 books. I think there is a distinct Austen feel to it (but that might just be me).
These videos always radiate a beautiful chaotic energy and it’s amazing
ive been here before the great boom around 20k and have just recently checked in on u, and boi ami happy that youre doing great, u deserve all the views, subs and love
It's so funny to see your favorite UA-camr turn into a crazy person video by video. Acting before a camera seems to unleash the crazy in people... gradually. And I love it. You're the best kind of crazy.
The Magicians series on Syfy is SO good. Highly recommend!
The first season is good, after that it turns to crap.
Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I didn't really care for the novels. I liked the themes explored but I couldn't care about any of the characters. I know the show diverts quite a bit, so it might irk the purists. Myself, I love the show and how the characters are constantly acknowledging how crazy the fantastical things that are happening really are. It keeps it grounded but still fun.
Ah yes! My favorite anime series!
"Code GEESE"
I love this fan mail unboxing... but wow a jock strap as fan mail😬. Weeeeird. 😂
That first book is actually a (translation of a) really popular French book series La Passe-Miroir just so you know!
Yeah La Passe-Miroir is AWESOME
You should try some Hervé Jubert, it's much better.
Concerning small press/high end books, I've been really enamored with Centipede Press, Suntup, Dark Regions, Grim Oak, Subterranean Press and Cemetery Dance. Suntup just announced today an edition of Farenheit 451 that I'm likely to pounce on.
These companies tend to focus on the horror genre but some include sci-fi and fantasy. Their editions are beautifully made and are a joy to hold and read. I just received my copy of Lord Foul's Bane the other day from Grim Oak and the artwork in it is amazing.
☮️
Code geass is one of the greatest anime/manga ever made on a similar level to full metal alchemist and death note. If that helps, I hope you get to it eventually. But I imagine your backlog is pretty massive atm.
Kage 777 I second all of this
I third this.
Agreed. Code Geass was one of the first Anime i ever watched and has always remained top of my list
I forth it.
BTW: geass is said: Gi-as
Let me preface this by saying that this is not an attack, just a strong disagreement lol.
Geass was fantastic in the first half... The second half was terrible. I understand the love for the series and the impact that it's had on people and the medium but to say its one of the greatest is just objectively wrong. Geass, and even FMA, would've never found audiences or maybe not even have come to fruition if it weren't for the series' that came before it, that elevated the medium and gave anime/manga international success. Geass didn't do anything new and it's inspirations are VERY prominent throughout its run. While this doesn't hold back the first season at all, the second season falls flat on its face. Concerning FMA and Death Note, yes these are absolutely fantastic, influential and popular series' but the fact remains that both draw heavily on the classics that propelled the medium to international popularity. Also, all 3 of your aforementioned series are all serialized Shonen, which is a classification that is directed soley at young boys, and runs series' that are, historically, contrived (not to say that they're bad) and blends only touches of more mature elements/themes of their grown-up counterparts. The reason these series are remembered so fondly is because they were some of the first to come to the western market's without any real censorship, to air on prominent internationally recognized Networks and broadcasters. There wasn't much selection for English speakers in those times unless you stalked anime forums and fan-sub groups who would regularly release the series' that no legitimate distributor would touch.
I'm not attempting to downplay any of these series' greatness or their impact on you; I'm just saying that I don't believe it's fair to call any of these some of the greatest of all time because none of these propelled the medium or pushed their respective genres. They are great series' overall, but nowhere near the greatest... Objectively.
Subterranean Press and Grim Oak Press make absolutely stunning special editions of books.
Well done! Very funny. Loved the t-shirt. Highly recommend PA books. Xanth series and the Adept series are my favorites.
Emily Rodda was really popular in Australia when I was growing up (early 2000s). Every kid in school was reading Rowan of Rinn and Deltora Quest. Both pretty good epic fantasy for young readers, as I recall.
Emily Rodda's Deltora Quest is also good
ooh Rowan of Rin! Such a fond childhood memory, to the point where I still enjoy re-reading it as an adult :)
Peers Anthony had a book called on a pale horse that is about a guy who takes over deaths position as the Grim Reaper kind of thing
Sounds interesting might have to check it out.
Emilly Rodda is all my childhood. there is so much heart in her books definitly read them
All I remember from the Xanth series(only 2.5 books) is that every tree was a macguffin. I just couldn't do it but that's just my opinion. I know many people who liked the series and so did I, right up to Pant Trees. THE MOST CREATIVE THING IN THE WORLD(internal screaming).
Folio Society is amazing! I have 5 books from them and absolutely love every one, they are the highest quality I've personally owned.
7:23 Tolkien definitely came up with Cold Drakes a long time ago. Granted mostly that just means they don’t breath fire. But I believe there where some who literally had an ice breath.
I don't know if you play video games or what kind you like if you do, but a great urban fantasy type game that is just wonderful is Persona 5. The expanded and remixed version comes out at the end of the month (hopefully...) and is definitely worth checking out.
Even if none of that sounds interesting, look up the music and listen to at least one song (Last Surprise, Beneath the Mask, and Rivers in the Desert are a few of the best). If you feel like. :P
Omg! I looooove Persona!!! Favorite anime video game series of all time! 🎮
I am watching this with a pretty high fever. I got to say. Makes the videos even better. Thank you for making my day a bit less miserable 🤗
Code Geass is awesome defo give it a watch
I just finished reading the prologue of the eye of the world and wow I’m blown away😱
I watched your review of Buzzfeed’s top 52 fantasy series. Man, you need to update that, if anything for the Terry Goodkind nod alone 😂
oh man i am super interested to see what youd have to say about A Winter's Promise. Seeing Code Geass really threw me back - it was one of the first anime i watched. Great ending!
Iain m. Banks is a fantastic sci-fi author, most of his books are based around 'the culture' which is being developed by amazon for a show, they signed the rights at the same time as LotR and WoT so it's in very good company.
Love the "lelaauch"
Daniel, Dan Wells is one of mine. And He is on Writing Excuses. Brian Durfee should be sending you stuff too.
My personal but not humble opinion is that his cyberpunk series Bluescreen is his finest work and criminally mismarketed......
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is the best anime I have ever seen. It has one of the best plots of anything ever.
Really enjoyed this unboxing.LOL Hope you enjoy the Xanth series. "Ogre, Ogre" is one of my favorites
8:48 "there's gotta be another really well-known one that i'm just not thinking of"
ROLAND
DESCHAIN
Expeditionary Force is SO much better in the audiobook. The narrator makes the humor sooooo much better. Epic.
Strange how the more obscured gifts started appearing after you highlighted that the community was wholesome.
"The new people are all wonderful" Clearly he hadn't met me
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is absolutely amazing!!! That's one of the light novels you received
Man, I really love that we as a community can just read the title of the video and know instantly that it’s an unboxing one
These unboxings never fail to make me laugh. Daniel, you are a delight.
I love these videos so much! And I love that you’re so dedicated to your fan base Daniel.
I watch all your new videos when they come out but I gotta say my top favorites are:
Fantasy News,
Book Reviews,
Unboxings,
Your new skits,
In no particular order. :)
“Code Geese” 😂😂😂
Daniel: "Diet Dragons"
Me: 🤣😅😂 dying
That book slapping is so aggressive yet so satisfying
the ones with manga covers are Light Novels which are like.... inspired by manga/anime/games? But different? I think google and wiki can explain it better than me.
But I can say that Grimgar of the Fantasy and Ashes is pretty good. (Stamp of approval from rando internet person)
You are getting better and better with editing
Iain Banks (RIP) of name-larger-than-title fame, wrote the substantial Culture series. If you like Star Trek for the right reasons, you'll like the Culture series. "Matter" is one of the latter books, but they rarely follow repeat characters, so starting anywhere is generally fine. Banks is a bit of an angry, acerbic, Scot in after the fashion of Twain or Vonnegut (but Scottish.) The series begins with "Consider Phlebas." If you're looking for good sci fi that isn't the everyone-reads-Dune-and-Ender-and-Asimov, the Culture is a solid choice.
Alex Verus is a bit like Dresden files. Jim Butcher has endorsed them as "books this good are the reason I got into the storytelling business"
With the delay you are placing on your PDGDBAB episodes, your next one will be a blast.
Dude Code Geass is one of the best anime of all time!
That edition of small gods looks incredible, I hope you read it!
Code Geass has one of the greatest endings ever. I know you dont like anime, and neither do I really, but that is one of the good ones.
"Code Geese". I'm dead
Winter's promise is also french translated fiction
Lots of cool stuff in this video!
Folio Society make amazing books and Small Gods by Pratchett is phenomenal, definitely worth reading!
Code Geass is one of my top anime ever and I watch a ridiculous amount. Heavily plot driven Alternate History Mecha Fantasy Amazing-ness.
You got sent your first light novels! xD Anime is often adapted from either manga or light novels. They're easy to read, usually serialized and have some anime-style illustrations in.
This was my favorite episode….idk. Congrats to Daddy Daniel on the new books ….. and other paraphernalia
Wow u got lot of books!! Hi from uk 🇬🇧. Take care!!
So when are we getting the underwear review?
"I promise I'm normal, if you're watching" is a big 'someone from real life knows my channel' energy. I feel this. Bahahaha!
"Boom-boom" makes me think of poop. I... don't know why.
0:00 Someone just became a serial killer XD
Read this comment as the book was revealed. Nice
Code Geass is one of the best animes out there, check it out especially if you like deathnote.
it's pronounced code gee-aus...and it's an awesome anime. lelouch is a gangster
3:50 Gee ause , (GEE AUse) Honestly Very thought provoking, the main protagonist is very very shrewd and calculating. i would put it in my all time top 10 for sure worth watching
Daniel has just been introduced to light novel culture. Not sure what to think right now.
The Magicians show is amazing and I am dying to read the books (but my parents refuse to allow me to buy anymore books).
black moon rising is a reylo fanfiction from wattpad so..... can't wait for your review on it, i guess?
12:34 yeah, I said that recently for a very different reason.
Hey Daniel, great vid as always! Piers Anthony is who got me into fantasy when I was in Jr.High some more than 30 years ago...the Xanth novels in particular...there is tons of humor in them and they have a special place in my heart. I also really love his Incarnations of Immortality series (personifies death, fates, mother nature, etc) and Apprentice Adept series (fantasy meets sci-fi). I hope you will enjoy his books as much as I do!
Hoo boy, (rip) Iain M. Banks. Amazon is doing a culture series, so you should read them soon. though I'd probably recommend this order: Player of games, Consider phlebas(might be skipped) and then "Use of weapons" before "Matter" or any of the later books. Personal favorites are probably "player of games," "Use of weapons," "surface detail," but all the books are top quality. they make you think where humans are today and where we could be. Very good subversion of typical sci-fi tropes with an egalitarian/optimistic tone from an author that knows how to point out our flaws.
I could have sworn daniel had already read him, crazy. He's in for one hell of a ride when he gets to it.
Excession is my favorite and apparently the favorite of many others.
@@EthelredHardrede-nz8yv I do like Excession as well, but player of games was my first foray into the culture series and I feel it deserves a top three spot for being a good introduction. I probably liked Excession better than Matter, but it didn't really leave me with the same sense of character development as the other books did.
At some point I had a brain fart: "Hold your lettuce, I'm admiring the BOOKS!!!"
I'm so happy I found this channel, my to read list just got huge. So many books to read and new genres to get into 🤯
Uhm, yes to info about special editions. I really do love these. Also I like that by the end of the video you were all "this was pretty calm" as if you'd already blocked out someone sending you underwear hahahaha
