I'm surprised Cinemassacre hasn't done a video on Sweet Home. It's a NES survival horror game by Capcom that's said to be one of the inspirations for Resident Evil. It was only released in Japan, but surely Mike can get ahold of a reproduction cart with the translation patch applied to it.
“Nobody remembers that, it was 9 years ago.” Not for me lol. I saw this video in my notifications and watched part 1 before coming back to this. So glad y’all came back to continue it!
A couple of the enemies were changed for the US version due to copyright. The prototype had a Gremlin, Xenomorph, The spider from The Thing, The Planet of the Apes & Jason in it.
look i dont wanna be that guy, but the spider in the thing was the alien called "the thing" it was not a spider. It may have looked like a spider but htat was bc it took a form to fit function approach.
hahahaha, I love james' schoolkid's time story about his exschoolmate who claimed he knows how to do telepathy in the bus...…. I always love those kind of friends and their jokes and we still hang out till today :)
This was my favorite game as a kid. But it took me FOREVER to figure out that the zombies just wanted me to stand there, "watch their dance" and do nothing on level 5. It was kind of fun watching you guys struggle to figure it out, haha.
If I was to guess at any sort of "actual" reason he thought he saw Ghostbusters '5' (assuming he wasn't bullshitting), a movie marquee might have used a 5 instead of a 2 (possibly upside down or backwards?) and being a young child he didn't understand the context of minimum wage theater workers who might not have all the letters for something.
These puns didn't come from japan. These are for the US release. English translations of the JP version, he says something completely different and generic
You know, this game really could use a sequel. Some time when Mark gets to his 20s, he has gone through years of therapy and then all of a sudden Bert shows up and a new adventure begins.
I played this game when I was a kid, it was so strange I developed a fondness for it. I never owned the game but my friend did. Just to make it clear this friend and I are still friends today. Even approaching our 40s we are still friends to this day, and talk almost daily.
I apologise for such a rude response. I actually thought this was a response to a different video. I was merely waxing nostalgic because true friendship is hard to come by. Chances are you're just a child, and you don't realize how lonely the world really is.
Damn, this game is lovely. I skipped Nes as a kid, went from Commodore and Atari to Genesis, and I'm starting to see what I've been missing. I would have loved this as a child.
The joke is totally missed. They are...or were 'The dead can dance'. They just wanted an audience and are unkillable. Well...except for expiring to death, that is. This game has some of the easier mini bosses around. Even easier then dancing Toad Man. Still, not as easy as that "Sorry, I'm Dead” mini boss from this game. 8 bit humor/horror. One can only do so much.
Brings to mind Mysterio from Spider Man 2. After that crazy obstacle course, Statue of Liberty, and funhouse nightmare fuel levels, you get the actual boss fight.
Pretty sure they say "watch me dance" before the fight. And given that they don't attack and you can't kill them, it should be quite obvious what (not) to do.
Mike was probably right about how your friend saw a bit on TV or something, when I was a kid, I seriously thought there was a Godzilla vs Michael Jordan movie, I even called the video place where we rented looking for it, I think I found out a few years ago it was a Nike commercial
Nightmare on Elm Street for NES would be a fun one to see. It gets a lot more fun when you're playing with two players and know the right locations. There's a fun balance between the availability of powers in the dream world and the greater threat of remaining there too long.
LOL "Alright, cool, so we finished monster party" Cut, end video. Hilarious, it's like, you beat it but you don't even care like thank God it's over but we're too exhausted to be all like "FUCK YEAH" so it's just like "Alright, cool, it's over" haha. Good stuff fellas, keep on playing them games.
Hell yeah a part 2! Lets get some more NES games on this show! Maybe they should play S.C.A.T next because it has Sigourney Weaver and Arnold Schwarzenegger PLUS it is two players!
If I was James, you know what I would say to the developers of Jekyll and Hyde and all the LJN games hes reviewed over the years?? ...Thanks for making me famous AND a shitload of money.
This is lets play sesame steet. Bert the gargoyle and ernie the big eyeball thing who hasn't had his coffee yet, and mark the coffee boy whos sent off on a quest to retrieve the treasure chest containing the coffee princess.
I don't care about the games in these videos but I do enjoy the reminiscing James and Mike get into being a similar age to these guys they talk like me and I get all the references it makes me more nostalgic than the crusty old games do.
Bandai were only the publishers on this game, and the devs had nothing to do with the infamous _Jekyll and Hyde_ game. Interestingly, though, the developers of Monster Party (Human Entertainment) went on to make the original _Clock Tower_ (possibly inspired by _The Exorcist III)_
LOL I was literally looking through the backlog for Part One as soon as the video started only to hear them say it was two years ago. I don't remember that one, :D
This was one of two NES games I owned as a kid, and I can confirm. It is SUPER hard! I never made it farther then like...4 levels in, if I was REALLY grinding. XD
It was hard as hell lol. My family was relatively poor, so this was pretty much the only other game I had other than Mario/Duck Hunt. I played the living hell out of it. Thank God I was finally able to get Final Fantasy a couple years later.
@@NCRRanger7753 Hey, looks like you had the same childhood experience as me! Only two games, because my single mom didn't make much money: Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt dual cartridge, and Monster Party. Then, yeaaaaars later, when my cousins moved to the SNES, they donated their old games to us. 😆 Oh yeah, I DID get Darkwing Duck for Christmas one year. Still haven't defeated THAT ONE, either.
Is the Grim Reaper boss directly referencing Castlevania, with its randomly-hovering projectiles that you can't avoid? Same for the flying devils in that stage, are they a reference to the Red Devils in Ghosts & Goblins?
Once a kid in school was telling us in the locker room that he got to level 9 on Super Mario Bros. He said that it was because he's so good at the game that it gives him better stuff.
That Ghostbusters 5 comment reminded me of a kid when I was in third grade who said that he heard they have Mario 7 in Japan. This was around the time SMB3 came out. Lol
I remember going to the video store (pre block buster) with Dad on Friday and looking for games. We asked the clerk if there were any hot new games and he grinned knowingly and handed us a copy of Monster Party and said "Check this out!". Dad bought me the game for my next birthday and its still one of my all time faves.
Why did you not show the hardest boss fight in world 8, the dragon hidden in the door to the left of the start? Anyway glad you guys came back to this, one of my favorite games as a kid (which I never got close to beating).
Holy shit, I knew someone who would do that exact same "freak sequel on the TV" tall tale.. but about a whole bunch of different films. It was always in the 5-8 range of sequel numbering
according to wiki, there's only the one ending guys. The game has a lot of interesting background to it, apparently it was originally meant to be a much darker game filled with blood and gore. Yes: on the NES.
Ahhh that days of 99 cent rentals for a whole week. I loved biking to my local rental store (owned by some schmuck and not a conglomerate that shall remain unnamed). So many aisles of NES games and never enough time.
I actually had a glitch in this game recently where all of the villains were flying in the air and I couldn’t get killed by any of them I have it on VHS tape it was weird as heck if I walked in any door it would take me to the next level
If you kill a monster, and it gives you a heart, move away and the monster will re-spawn, kill it for another heart. You can continue this for around 10 hearts. If you're good enough, you're health meter could be huge.
You’re supposed to just watch the zombies dance. So, when you were on your phone, the character was watching them, and they went away and you completed the room.
I played this game a lot when I was a kid. It doesn't show it in the video, but the zombies say something like "watch us dance" and that's all you do. You do nothing. Just watch them dance and they die afterwards.
Mike’s laugh right after James said that his friend saw Ghostbusters 5 kills me every time
12:40 I like that part lol
"I've never seen a projectile split into 2 and go around an enemy!" One name: Fester's Quest.
Well, I remember that one was only like a singular circular stream, but it, indeed, went _around_ the enemy when firing from a particular position.
Oh my god yes
the ending :D
"well alright. we finished up monster party" *silence*
"Watch my dance." The NES version of a cut scene.
One of the greatest troll moments in gaming.
Freakin’ love October! Thanks for adding to it
The best month of the year
"What happened?!" You have to watch the zombies dance, I believe. This has probably already been answered at this point, but yeah. lol
The 2 zombies say "watch" my dance. You watch, they die
YEARS ago, someone actually wrote to NINTENDO POWER asking how to beat those zombies, and NP published the question and the solution.
Those fish with shark fins are cute! 🐟😄
“Nobody remembers that, it was 9 years ago.”
Not for me lol. I saw this video in my notifications and watched part 1 before coming back to this. So glad y’all came back to continue it!
Me too, I even know how to beat those dancing Zombie
God i thought it was only months ago because i remembered it. Man I'm getting old...
Actually, JonTron made a video on this game.
Watched back2back so i never waited!
It was worth the wait to see part 2
These days, sequels have no time expiration.
Hmmm...I wonder if 'Things to Come, part 2' is in the works, yet?
A couple of the enemies were changed for the US version due to copyright. The prototype had a Gremlin, Xenomorph, The spider from The Thing, The Planet of the Apes & Jason in it.
I wish we got that one instead. I heard someone dumped the rom a few years ago.
Did you mention this two years ago also?
yeah thanks for your comment, edgelord.
look i dont wanna be that guy, but the spider in the thing was the alien called "the thing" it was not a spider. It may have looked like a spider but htat was bc it took a form to fit function approach.
Parody World: Monster Party would make a great remake or nextgen consoles. A translated repro would be awesome. And why is there no sequel?

The ghost in the logo of ghost busters 2 makes a peace sign, which I guess could be confused for a roman 5.
It isn't a misconception, during the 60s it was adopted to mean peace. Shit changes, deal with it.

How is that arguing with him? He wasn't confused by the number.
Maybe the one *he* saw was holding up a whole hand (5 fingers)... :P

Pretty daft, eh?
I found the ending highly disturbing to this game
Cursed images
It actually is...
The music is cool tho
hey when you are 8 and are awarded a princess then her skin melts off and two rotting corpse heads appear, you kinda should be disturbed
Well it was originally going to be a more gory game, as seen in the beta.
You two actually make Monday bearable.
James makes “Dad jokes” sometimes, and it’s so charming.
Was he called Royce because he..Rolls?
Bullseye
Because those were the Roles that he played in the game.
japan loves puns lol
These puns didn't come from japan. These are for the US release. English translations of the JP version, he says something completely different and generic
i lost it at the ghostbusters 5 part lol
I wish this game would be re-released for the nintendo shop dang
A remade game would be even better for Switch.
Great video! those dancing zombies were in some kind of Japanese festival. The background sprites were paper lanterns and a tower with a drum on it.
I appreciate this being available for my train ride to work.

This game was frustrating as a kid but oddly enough a fun time
I started on NES and went from there to SNES. Never had a sega. Wish I did though.
Kenneth14621 i went from atari to nes to genesis
This was the 3rd or 4th game I ever got and to this day still own CIB. Love it!
Some of those bosses, including the last one, you need to play as the boy so you can hit the projectiles away.
The joke is totally missed. They are...or were 'The dead can dance'. They just wanted an audience and are unkillable. Well...except for expiring to death, that is.

It definitely had its moments. The dancing zombies were my favorite.

So it's like all those horror movies where it seems it's over then suddenly boom monster jumps out freeze frame scream leads to credits.

Can Luigi beat them?
"Alright, that was cool. We finished up Monster Party." Ha ha ha
Oh hi, Mark! This ending scared the shit out of me when I was a kid.
SMiling ghosts look like Slimer in a Merry Melodies cartoon.
When playing as Bert, you can fall to the ground quickly by pushing down on the d-pad. ;)
If you kill a monster, and it gives you a heart, move away and the monster will re-spawn, kill it for another heart. You can continue this for around 10 hearts. If you're good enough, you're health meter could be huge.
In The dancing zombies part, you do nothing for a minute to pass it, they just want to show you your moves
So... I've got two questions?
1. Can Luigi beat them?
2. Is the player character in the game Captain Falcon?
"There's the lowest duck in any game."
The zombies just want you to watch their dance. They tell you that as soon as you walk in the room.
