a friend I went to highschool with had that happen. He was like 15 and came home and nobody was home. Both parents addicts. So he hung out and took care of his little bro for about a month until someone came and said they couldn't stay there because there was no rent being payed. Thankfully he was a talented athlete and a teacher/coach knew him well and took him and little bro in. I think his dad turned up a few years later when he kept getting in the paper for sports and they told him to kick rocks. Never heard from mom, far as I know.
