Word of advice from a 20 year retired US Army First Sergeant...Keep any copy of paperwork you get from the Army, lots of items come with many copies, Eventually get a box of Document protectors and a 3 ring binder. Everything will carry value later in life. Having a copy of awards, orders, certificates can mean the difference between getting promoted or not. The Army can, and will lose their copy that was supposed to make it's way into your personnel file. Being able to validate info can save you promotion points. Once you leave the service, or retire, you will have a chronological record of your career. Mine ended up being 2 binders 3 inches thick. If you are a career soldier, this also helps come retirement time and useful when dealing with the VA. Unless it has changed...When you depart 1 duty station for another, you "hand-carry" your personnel file (201) and your medical records/dental records....Stop and get yourself a copy of what is in the folders. You may be surprised on what is in there. Best of Luck Soldiers.....HOOAH
@@ItzzMarcuss Congrats! I've been preparing but I forgot to think about the weather at Fort Sill. Cold?!! I hate the cold LOL Thank you for the heads up

I'm going to Fort Sill next year April. Feel so unprepared though but I'm trying to educate myself as much as possible so the culture shock won't be as drastic. I just hope I pass the technical parts :(

This is a great video for Mamas. My son just shipped out to Fort sill yesterday. He sat at the airport for 6 hrs before they came. Then I got a 5 sec call and he was out of breath. Freaked me out. So nice to know what was going on. Look out for Xander Rische!

Reception is 3 times lower key than basic training, so get prepared mentally and physically while at this initial phase. More importantly make sure you have everything you need for training! Theres a lot of things youre accountable for in regards to material, and you dont want a drill breathing down your neck at initial shakedown cause youre missing an important thing. It will haunt you. I unfortunately lost my back brace for my allisonrack, and managed to hide this discrepancy until i suffered a back fracture.
Time flies. Back in 1973-1975 I worked at IRP at Ft. Sill. Initial Reception Point. Back then, Ft. Sill didn't have basic training. Trainees went there for AIT, after basic training. They came in buses ever week, from all the basic training posts. Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Knox, Fort Ord, etc. Anyway, they'd show up on weekends, and we would do all the in-processing in three hours or so. Then, they'd be off to their units. I must have talked to thousands of trainees. Somewhere along the line, it was decided that Ft. Sill would do basic training, and so they changed the whole thing around.
Everything sounds pretty accurate, the only thing I would recommend is for males to make haircut their #1 priority right after getting their EZPay, why? ... 1)Barber shop is open from Monday-Friday from 8am - 11am, Lunch Chow formation starts at 11am and come back around 12:30 (you will not find the barber shop open unless the group for the day was 200+ males) 2) You can not get your photo ID without a haircut, so if you don’t get it by 11:00 you’re out of luck and will have to wait until the next day and you will have Drill Sergeants on you all day for having hair on your hair 🤷🏽♀️
Hi my son is shipping out in exactly two months. You mentioned males getting a hair cut when are you suggesting they get a haircut when shipping out for the first time ? Would it be a good idea to get a haircut right before they shipping out? Thanks
Ahhhh I remember reception at ft sill. October 15, 2019 Echo Battery 1-40th FA Can confirm the no one wanting to shut up part especially at Vessy as well as people camping out in the latrines to avoid smoke sessions in the main area.
