DJmag Review The Korg Mini-KP DJ Effects Kaoss Pad
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- Check out the full capabilities of the wicked new Korg Mini-KP effects processor. There's 100 effects on there and if you're in the UK, it costs £100... so £1 per effect - ridiculous.
It sounds absolutely lush and the likes of James Zabiela takes it on tour with him.
Enjoy.
Don't sweat it DJMag, Children are always using UA-cam to make jokes, juvenile comments or to try to start verbal wars. The live for it...There should be a age limit to allowing comments. 10 years old and above only. Why should comments be an opportunity to f&*k with somebody you've never even met. Takes a lot of courage to do that huh? Just don't say anything at all if you can't put good vibes out there...Thanks for the review...
I'm getting this exact Kaoss Pad for my birthday. I'm so excited to finally start experimenting with it! :D
God it's like an ad from 1999
It'd be great if we got a few homogeneous sounds that people could use when demo-ing these things.
That way you'd know what was on the track and what the effects were doing.
I have one of these.
Yes there is no midi, only tap-tempo. I use it in conjunction with live synths, rather than through DJ decks or anything - so the accuracy I can tap for myself is usually adequate.
The KP3 not only has midi IN/OUT, but has as audio BPM detector - i'm not sure how well it works (probably better on house techno than contemporary jazz) but it's a very rare and precious feature!
If that's important to you, I'd go a level up and buy the KP3.
Enough with the vocal FX already. Just do that damned vid!
16 yrs ago this was dope
Hahaha this is vintage UA-cam
That's exactly what you would do. And the Kaossilator is the perfect synth to do it with. So they basically compliment eachother.
The mini-KP and Kaossilator are like twins; even the chasis shape and layout is the same, except for the colors. The Kaossilator is a synth and can be tuned to scale and played like an instrument. The mini-KP is an effects bank, like a guitar effect pedal on steroids, that you play another instrument -- like the Kaossilator -- through for a deeper, funkier, or more whacked out sound.
the kaossilator is a synth. This is an effects processor. This one is 50 bucks cheaper usually and it's mainly used to alter effects of music. The music you change could be synths you made ON the kaossilator. So basically you make the synths on the Kaossilator and than change all the effects on this one. Or you can get the KP3 which is essentially a combination of the two. Except I don't know if the KP3 has the same capabilities of the kaossilator as far as quantity goes.
of course, you just need a regular cable, like the one, you use to link your ipod with your sound system
@undenohr that's pretty simple: kaossilator makes sound ("instrument"), while kp mini alters it ("effects")
This has to be the corniest review I've ever seen.
Yeah whole thing is in an effect
The guitarist from Muse has a normal Koass pad(don't remember if it's the KP2 or KP3) in his guitar, you can find a video of someone doing a demo of that custom guitar on youtube, also there's a blog of a guy that did a homemade job of putting a Koass pad in his cheapy guitar and he also has videos up on here. Uh Radiohead uses a KP1 or KP2 for a few songs....so yeah it can be used liek a pedal, but it's not as easy to have set up, but you have a stock of a lot of effects.
a useless piece of junk. If you have a music software like ableton or cubase you'd have all those effects in the software and can just adjust it there or map it to a midi controller knob. Who needs a confusing pad with numbers where you store what effects jeez
It depends, the kaossilator is different sounds & synths, where the mini-kp is effects.
maby he is a quitar singer, and he needs the nails.omg haters
Hey! Just have one question about the Mini Kp! Does it work as a vocoder as well? I mean can I hook up a mic to it, speach something and distort the sound of my own voice?
mini kp or kaossiltor ??? iv got a kaossiltor it it rules ... whats the differance I think that one is more synth ( kaossiltor ) and drums ( kp mini ) but i might be wrong .
Actually the batteries would induce less noise into the signal than the power supply. Although I would also end up using the power supply as I never have batteries :-)
FX only? Pass
Not only that but the FX are lame
kind of, but I would recomend you a pedal instead, this thing doesn't have enough presets for a live guitar player, i use it for my keyboard... i haven't played live with it yet, but i think I'll need to practice the art of playing with one hand and changing effects with the other... but anyway... if you already have a pedal, and just want to add more sounds to your playing, this thing can be a good buy.
(sorry for my bad english, hope that i helped)
that's a hard question, it's like asking which one is better.. a guitar, or a guitar effects processor...
Anyway, i would say the kaoss pad its better. the kaossilator will give a lot of sounds but i don't think it is a tool for real musicians. unless they use it for ambiance sounds it is more like a toy. instead, the kaoss pad will give anything plugged in to it a nice range of effects, which in my case is a cheap keyboard. (sorry for my english)
totally possible, you just need the right cables, sorry i don't know exactly which cables they are, but i would assume you could buy a splitter, OR the easiest, is if your mp3 sells somethign to hook it up to a home stero, you would buy that, plug it into the mp3 and the line-in then connect your line out to a stero, using standard white and red cables, hope i helped, its a great buy, truly, i got my first today, OMG, i use it for guitar and dj-ing
that is true, but it gave a nice little, welcome to, for the new buyers who have played with, but not fully understood the device, like i didn't know about the holding buttons and depth, didn't bother to read the manuel, just took it out at guitar center and then set it up and jammed, it was soo cool, i'm still figureing out which goes best with guitar, so far i like 28 and 55
does it have a loper?
Ima total noob, and im getting one of theese to have a mess on with off a friend, what exactly do i need to record, get some noise, maybe write a few tunes with this? Eg cables, software other equipment. A reply would be much appreciated, cheeers
@shaq147 Anyone who actually likes playing live. for example DJs (You did notice this was a DJmag Review yes?) or live electronica acts who don't just press play on ableton and pretend they are playing live.
Well, the mini kp is effects, and I'm not sure if you can record them. Look up the kp3 (kaoss pad 3)
With that you can, so if you had a kaossilator hooked up to it you could just sample parts of the k01 into the kp3.
it's not a matter of compatability - it is just a device that you plug in between your line from your rca audio out to your mixer... you can use it if you have a mixer that is receiving audio from an rca source...
Damn using a Kaos Pad is like doing a Fatality in Mortal Kombat! You need to know the combos!
the kaoss padd is a gimmiky hunk of balls!
i used to demo Dj equipment... and its bolloks! this one and all the other ones!
anyone thinking of getting one.. Get a Pioneer EFX unit instead!
what efffect is should i use if i want to make a song stutter and echo before i transition to another song....i have it connected to my Numark NS7
Got one of those very cool little gadget should try to look more in depth of it tho. Funny video.
The host looks like he's fondling that pad as if it were a sorority girl passed out on mike's hard lemonade. Cool looking gadget though.
can it record and loop vocals? for example, i'd like to be able to beatbox into and loop over it to build up my beat. is that possible?
does this have a built in speaker or does it need to be plugged into a speaker? and what cable would be necessary to hook up to a mixer?
Come on dude, try to show that stuff with some music insted of messing around with... nothing? and WHY MODIFIING YOUR VOICE? shit.
connect your rca cables into the output of the kaoss pad and the other end of the rca cables into a line in channel on the vmx 300
This video is terrible. these so much other sound playing in the background that its hard to tell what the mini kaoss sounds like!!
Sure. I use my mini-KP with my mK that way all the time. Just be sure to first pick up two cables that have 1/4 inch on one end and RCA on the other. The filters on the mini-KP patch # 00, 01, 02, for example, are smooth and sensitive, and the X-Y pad lets you do sweeps that twist and swirl, which you can't really do on using just the mK's knobs or wheels.
That video was really irritating. (but still not as bad as WMG disabling the audio for the ThinkGeek Mini KP video...)
does this work with like all dj kits ? i have a gemini 3600.................. worthless to buy if it doesent work
Can anyone tell me if this is compatible with Roland JX-305? And if so, how I'd go about connecting it.
Thanks!
is it possible to, say, connect a mini KP to a microkorg and use the KP to process the MK's effects?
thanks!
Is it really worth buying or would one be better off just buying a Kaoss Pad?
anyone from Radiohead is a better musician than ANYONE here...
no matter how good we all think we are...
@cplexroro Use a computer with two soundcards and two 3.5mm jack to RCA leads. Plug the output from one soundcard into the input of the effects processor and the output of the effects processor into the input of the other sound card, then make sure whatever software you are using has the correct soundcard for output and input so you can record the effect or send it to speaker by unmuting that input in control panel.
Technically you can use USB audio devices for this but I don't recommend them.
You mean the RCA cables? If you don't know what RCA cables are you have no use for this device...
Could you hook this up to an MP3 player/Ipod and mix songs on the fly or is that not possible?
Isn't there any effect-emulator for a laptop touchpad?
Could be a really usefull invention.
No you can you use the imputs at the top of it, im in the same dilemma.
We need more guys like this to laugh at
if you find an answer, please tell me! No one seems to want to say, and i'm about to buy one of them
What else is needed to create the beats in the video? or is that all the KP?
you can't use this in a DAW right, only if you send an audio source into it?
@shaq147 its nice to have an external reliable piece of equipment, a great plan b, effects are played by the computer cpu through complex algorithms, wich at times may fail even with a great processer, errors can build up in a snap, id rather sit down and learn, and keep strain of my cpu while producing a more complex set. sheers!
I'd like to know if the headphone port is noiseless, or do you hear a buzz?
jammed on one tonight at a mates house. can turn any music into somethin madly interesting. really sweet tech.
how do you hook up a korg mini kp into a behringer vmx 300 mixer???????
Anyone know where to get those multicore in/out rca cables in the us?
yes. if you have an RCA to mini jack (that plugs into your ipod
what is the difference between kaoss pad and kaossliator?
Can u use it with Syntheziers... like use the tweaks when u play?
whats the difference between the yellow one and the red one? :L x
whats the difference between this and the kaossilator? (spelling)
how much coke did u do before taping this?you seem nervous man!
hahhaha its kinda a PSP... xDDD
I prefer the KP-3 Kaoss Pad...
works with batteries and power cord i mainly use the power cord
i think you can with a PL plug to a White and Red Plug(im not sure)
Hi. Here is the solution to that problem: adjust the Depth Level, which is set on 99 by default. Reduce that Depth Level in real time until the effected volume in relation to the entire mix returns to normal, and then leave it at that level setting.
I feel like I need a Xanax after watching this...
so whats the difference between this and the kaossilator?
whats the different between this gear and the kaoss pad3?
What is the difference between this and the Kaossilator
wats the difference from this and the kaoscillator??
@FuzzyNuggers watch Beardyman do his thing....
But wich one is better????
there are really better synths at the same price of the kaossilator?... can you please tell the name of them?... (I'm not being sarcastic, i would really want to know)because I think the kaossilator haves good sounds but it is no match for a normal synth within the same price range combined with good ability to play the keyboard
wats the difference betwean this and the kaossoliter
The basic beat - du du doo doo is the basic track.
If I'm not DJ, is it still useful for me?
Can this be connected to the new Numark NS7?
he has the kp2 in earlier models but im sure he will have upgraded by now he has the touch screen on the guitar and the actual body of the kaoss pad as like a pedal with presets.
am planning on buying of those mini kp. i have the denon dn mc 6000. when i plug it in with the controller, can the sound pass through the controller or it has to be from the korg mini kp?
It looks so awesome. But I saw there are two types. This one, and the Korg Kaossilator Dynamic Phrase Synthesizer (yellow color version). They look both the same. I don't know what to choose! Which of the two synthesizers is better and newer? Because I can't decide on which one to get! =/
can this be used on a guitar? like a pedal?
whats with the fing voice effects? sounds like bbc radio one in the 90s
@martybarnes06 lol, im not talking shit?
also true, did you buy one of these yet?
this thing is cool - a lot like having a hardware dblue glitch - more hands and live.
you'll need 2 1/4" jack to RCA adaptors to get the signal from your guitar, to this, and out to the amp.
Don't turn it off when on stage and it's connected to your guitar! These aren't true-bypassed and crush tone like fat kids crush chairs.
Leave it turned on for as long as it's connected to your guitar and you should be fine.
Can plug a Microfon in it for Beatbox?
Is it compatible with an alesis micron
u can use it on its own im pretty sure
@crazycypriot123 pretty much, it can handle any audio source as long as it has RCA outputs.
Definitivamente me quedo con la Pioneer EFX-1000
This unit is such crap. The output level are way higher for the "synth effects" (90 and higher) than what can come in without distortion... The AC adapter makes a sound if you don't use batteries which is aweful... Save your money and buy the real one.
This vid is bs is so many ways.
