    as a 19 year old kid, id love to be a shop boy for a guy like this fountain of knowledge. I grew up in the southern California area and I remember walking around the parking lot of the el camino swap meet with my dad. I remember riding my bike around in circles as my dad was selling stuff at the long beech swap meet at veterans stadium. I just cant get enough of old cars and bikes.

    Boy, what a great story Todd! I myself have enjoyed your UA-cam videos since the beginning. You have a passion for knowing everything Harley Davidson, and that's cool! I would support you 100% in taking your Harley history lesions to the next level! IMO, you are a wealth of information when it comes to the Motor Company and I believe it can only get better. Wow.
    I used to drink (and do a lot of drugs) at Cooks Corner in the mid eighties... Seemed to be the only true "biker bar" in OC at it's prime. Anyhow there were stories about a guy who saved Harley Davidson with private sales in Hollywood. A HA named Gut rot said that he bought one of the first Super Glides from the guy, and that the dude selling 'hundreds' of them a month sparked a motorcycle fad so big in SoCal that it swept the world over. I distinctly remember him saying the guys name was Todd because that's my fathers name. Too fucking cool man, hope you're doing well.
    Much love and respect

    Your story could definitely make for a great book. What I like best about this is that you are who you are, and this is evident in the way you share it and the reason you share it. From what I have seen, you are a man who found his calling early, someone who has the confidence and wisdom that comes from experience, yet the humility that this experience also creates. Admirable, honorable, and very interesting to watch. I am a new subscriber, and I hope you get the TV show you're working on picked up nationally/internationally. I wish you and yours all the best, and may you always keep the rubber on the road!

    with all the crap they put on TV now a show about you "Hunting Harley's" & discovering their history would be refreshing. Problem is you'd probably be forced to hire some clowns for drama and comedic relief like every other show. I think HD is more concerned with making the bucks today off the new crowd than their history or their older customers who are dieing off

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  10 років тому +3

      we shall find out if HD feels that way or not really soon. However, in my life, drama comes naturally, all they have to do is roll the camera's!

      +HuntingHarleys I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. I'm currently sitting with 11 dogs sleeping all around me as I baby sit them and Christmas is very busy. They are family members and I feel the loss every time one passes on. In the 21 years I have been doing this, I have experienced a lot of loss but nothing comparing to the amount of joy that they bring into our lives. Watching 11 dogs running and playing at the river today makes my heart melt every time. They are my friends and family. Cheers!

      @HuntingHarleys  9 років тому

      +Adam Stein yes, you did, Bear doodoo (the Pit Bull) has passed on now, and Kittie Poo really misses her doodoo dog and playing with him. I saved the kittie, she was dumped in the alley and very sick. So I told Bear, this is YOUR kittie, you have to help me take care of her, and he did

    • @chopperchopster
      @chopperchopster 9 років тому

      That's amazing. I breed gotti and colby blood line American pitbull terrier myself. It's very seldom that my dogs are ok with a cat.

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  9 років тому

      +Adam Stein Bear was a Blue Fawn Pit Bull. The Blue Fawn line are specially bred to be friendly to everyone, and every animal, until told otherwise. Where I had a problem with Bear, he lived to nerf (bark) at Bikes, and he had a huge separation anxiety problem. His fear of not being wanting and brought along when I moved the shop, caused a succession of strokes and I finally had to put him down.

    • @chopperchopster
      @chopperchopster 9 років тому

      I know a lot about the apbt blood lines brotha.all of them have seperation anxiety. The blue is actually a recessive gene. But in recent years has become very popular. The apbt is about the most loyal dog in existence.

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  9 років тому

      I've had Pit Bulls for decades, though never bred them. Bear doodoo was abused and this, so I feel, caused a more intense separation anxiety then the others I have personally known. I've never had to out one down mid life before from an anxiety caused series of strokes! He was only 5

    Todd, I just finally got to watch this video. You are a success story all the way around! You lay it out there. I love what your doing, and I totally support you. I'm just an average Joe retired from the military. I have rode bikes since I was very young, but never had the opportunity to own my own bike till 2011. I went and got a Dyna Superglide for myself and a Sportster for my wife. I totally love it!! I'm learning soo much from what you put on youtube. I tell everyone I hang with about you and your channel and what I'm learning you do. As a matter of fact, just tonight at work I brought you up with a guy I work with. He knew about you and said he liked your stuff. I showed him one of your videos I still had open of yours with the 65 red and white flh. I told him that's in the near ball park of where I want to go next. He said your bike was top quality stuff. I'm glad you are passionate about this cause YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!!! I have THE BUG. I love these bikes and I know more and more each day that I'll be doing something with the older bikes, just don't know my nitch just yet!! You are going to prevail!!!

    Hi Todd, im working on fixing up my dads 1971 Harley Sportster
    when I go to buy parts and I look at other peoples bikes, some people have 900s and other people have 1000s
    could you get either a 900 or a 1000 in 1971 or does the later 1000 engine fit into the 1971 900 frame and people just put the later engine in the early frame, ive heard that 1957 through 1976 engines have all the same mountings, I remember my dad saying it was a 1000

    • @landshark2008
      @landshark2008 10 років тому

      the registrations says its 1971, but I just remember him saying that it was in fact a 1000 not a 900
      im not sure if you could choose between a 900 or a 1000 in 1971 or not
      I know they had like 3 different models back then
      xl sportster
      xlh
      xlch

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  10 років тому

      I don't know my Sportster's quite as well as the big twins, having had far fewer of them. The 1000cc was a mid year change. They were not made concurrently. my understand is, The top end is different, heads and barrels. I have never been into either motor myself, but the word I have (correct or not) is that the lower end flywheels are the same. I have never tried to personally change the motor's from one frame to another, but I understand that it can be done. I have owned and seen many later motors in earlier frames. the question about the motor mounts I don't have that answer. the LOOK the same, but looks while together can be very deceiving. As far as I am aware, they only made 2 actual models, the XLH and the XLCH, As I'm sure you know, the Sportster came out in 1957, and still made today. I have never seen literature for EVERY year, but I am not a Sportster guy either. If they did make an XL model and advertised it as such, it would be news to me.

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  10 років тому

      Dirk Magirk registrations are often misleading. You have to go by the frame and motor numbers, which for a 1971 should be identical and end in H1. The 1st two letter's give you the model number. Let me know what they are and I can look it up

      todd hate to bug you , but you no so much about these bike it's mind boggling , on my 1340 evo 1985 when the motor warms up you here a clacking noise on top left side of the motor, front jug, as soon as I lean the bike to the left or put it on the kick stand , in about 2 seconds the noise goe's away , and when you stand the bike back up straight 2 or 3 seconds the noise come's back , clack clack clack clack if you ever heard this can you help maybe , thank you

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  10 років тому

      jojojeep1 you need a stethoscope to determine exactly where the clickty clack is coming from. I suspect you have some dirt preventing one of the lifter's from bleeding up completely, or simply a bad lifter. Sounds travel in these engines and can seem to be coming from one spot but actually originating in another. There should be a check screen area via a set plug in the case itself close to the oil pump area. Pull that out and clean the screen. If you have metal shavings, big problem.

    • @jojojeep1
      @jojojeep1 10 років тому

      everything you just said is right man you are good with this stuff, I just changed the oil and filter and it did have matallics in the oil , and the oil in the filter was sow to come out .now I feel the same thing, a oil delivery problem. I took that that screen out the other day , it was clean , im hoping just change the oil every few hundred miles till it clears up , I think the oil pump is good the pressure gauge go's up when you crack the gas but stays at 25 pounds till you really gas it than it frees up and moves to 40 or 45 pounds, like something blocking the oil . when I lean the bike on the kick stand t's really quite , no noise on the bottom , I don't think any damage is done yet, but how can I clean the oil passages

    This has been what I been waiting to see! Thanks for your history! I have been around some of the same circles as you. I grew up around and worked at a antique motorcycle shop. Called Classic Cycle in Ohio. All though we mostly did INDIANS. But I been to Wassy- Davenport- Florida and any other meet we could find! Sorry to say Danny just sold out and sold all his bikes and parts. There will be a few less classic Indians and parts being built with out him! Thanks for the great video and I will do my part on letting H-D know they need you to truly save the history of the Knuckle!
