      I learn something new everyday.
Like that I speak Chinese. LOL. I am joking.
I actual am from US and watched a ton of Serpenza. He has talked about the cultural differences. I try to look at various cultures, as to broaden my understanding of different people of the world. Something most people do not do, including other Americans. By seeing and understanding these differences makes us all more understanding and excepting of others.

Great video! I'm American and the biggest thing I had to deal with in China is that everyone thought I was rich! I had to explain to them that most Americans "look" rich but in reality so many of us are in a huge amount of debt and have very little money. That there are a lot of poor people in America. And that there are LOTS of homeless people living in slums. I tried to teach them to not believe the American movie and tv shows. In reality, many typical Chinese people and Americans are the same - we don't live in big homes, we try and save money, etc.

谢谢你!I think your conversation partner was very smart about unwrapping these stereotypes. Rather than just scratching the surface, you went deep to try understand the core. Like with all stereotypes. They have some true in them. But they can be misleading because you zoom in to a small piece of the big picture. Sure some men go to China for obedient woman. But I think a lot of people go because China is such an interesting country (esp. from a western perspective). Because you were isolated for such a long time. Customs and behaviours grew in such a different way. That is why it was very interesting to see the 'Chinese' perspective in opening up to the world. Sometimes your values match way better with a part of the westerners. We can learn a lot from each other. We can learn more about respect and form a strong collective as a nation. The Chinese maybe about critic. Which is more a tool to improve than try to make people loose face. Again thank you!

This video was too politically correct so let me tell the hard truth that people know but don't say openly. Men do not go to china for an obedient women, men go to china to sleep with chinese women because chinese women think foreigners are more attractive than chinese men especially white men. The idea that chinese people think all foreigners have blonde hair and blue eyes is just a lie. It would be more accurate to say they are aware of all people but they find people with blonde hair and blue eyes the most attractive. Chinese women just don't want to be shamed for admitting that they think white people are more attractive or that part of them wishes they were white but they cannot hide their beliefs, you can just observe their actions. Whenever a white man is in china, many chinese woman approach the white man, asking for hugs, pictures, and to sleep together. You are more likely to see a white man walking around with multiple girls around him than a chinese man with multiple girls around him. Not only that, it is more likely for a chinese woman to approach a white man than a chinese man in china. Also the white man can earn much less than the chinese man and still sleep with hundreds of chinese women ( this is not a joke, it really is in the hundreds and if you don't believe me go speak to a white man traveling to china for the purpose of sleeping around) a good example is the youtuber Serpentza who used to teach english in china. Serpentza taught english in china for a while than he had a child with one of his own students. This behavior is generally not tolerated especially in the west but the problem is you cannot blame the men when it's actually the women that are pursuing and initiating this behavior. Normally in china teaching english is a low paying job and a chinese woman would pretty much never date a man (especially a chinese man) that makes so little money but because they think white men are better than chinese men they can overlook this shortcoming and instead the tradeoff is that they get to brag that they have a foreigner particularly a white male because you clearly don't see chinese women running to black men. Also in china they prefer to hire english teachers that are white men and won't even hire chinese americans who are fluent in english even if their english is perfect. It's also very common for these english teachers to sleep around with the students and other teachers but only if the english teacher is a white man, and this is so well known in america that white men make sure to tell other white men on the internet that if they want to get laid and treated like kings they can just teach english in china. Here are some other actions that allude to the fact that chinese women view white men as better than chinese men. They prefer to speak english and not only that they usually learn english with another european language like italian or french and sometimes they brag that its better than their own chinese language. All chinese women think the best type of clothing style, fashion is european fashion, you can see they spend much more money on european products and go out of their way to travel to european or white dominant countries. When a chinese women leaves china with a white man she pretty much will never go back to live in china, she will only go back for family and thats just direct family like mother, father, sister. Alot of women that leave china never want to go back and this affects the nation because not only does it decrease the chinese population in china, it slowly destroys the community because now a system is created where chinese women will stay single well into their 30's "waiting" for the right partner but what they really mean is that they do not want to be with an unattractive chinese man they would rather be single, make money and then eventually either run into a white man in china or travel abroad and find a white man there. Many chinese women do this today and with the internet, social media, dating apps its become easier. If a chinese woman can not find a white man she will than go to a sperm bank and ask to be impregnated with sperm from a white man and raise the child by herself instead of trying to find a chinese husband. People know this but since this issue is such a sensitive topic it would be like the biggest elephant in the room to try to have a discussion of how chinese women would rather marry a white man or be a single mother than marry a chinese man. Also look in chinese television. The foreigners in chinese television are white men and women and the men are usually using their whiteness to achieve fame. It's become clear that if that white man had been an asian person he would not even get noticed. These social dynamics are a very big reason as to why chinese society is fractured with a dying culture. China now is just a reflection of western society, its culture is being destroyed and replaced with heavy western influences. Even if china has been isolated for many years, this doesn't effect human behavior because human behavior is universal. For example any society you are in, the people that are considered beautiful get a different type of treatment than the ugly people. This behavior is easily seen when it comes to fashion, media & marketing, even dating life as you can see how chinese women treat white men like kings but treat asian men like an item at a supermarket. It would be much better to lose face and have an actual honest discussion but chinese women are not even ready for that because they benefit from this system and they don't care about chinese men they only care about themselves, their own looks, and wanting to be white so badly they would give up their own culture and people. The irony is when they have children and their son ends up looking chinese and ugly. When these chinese women have children with white men where the child looks asian the chinese women is extremely disappointed, that's why many chinese women with white men express how they prefer a daughter because once they have a son they have to face the reality of how they have been marginalizing their own sons themselves from their own choices. Imagine being a chinese woman with a white man and a very asian looking mixed child. The child grows up and is trying to understand why he struggles with relationships in society and has difficulty connecting with other chinese women. As the son grows older and pays more attention he starts to notice a pattern that chinese women treat white men differently and then he realizes, his own mother is with a white man and everything starts to make sense. The son realizes he will never live up to a chinese woman's expectations of masculinity and attractiveness because his own mother's relationship reinforces the idea that he is undesirable. This really does destroy society and it's become quite clear chinese women don't care about the future at all. Look at all the chinese women that travel to study now, they travel to europe, america, australia and they usually never want to come back. They make excuses saying chinese men are "feminine", small, quiet, shy when they don't ask themselves a simple question. What type of reaction do you expect when you see all these women leaving their own country and people for foreigners only because they have better eyes, better hair, better bodies, etc? If you think western society respects china you are living a fairytale story. Western society only wants chinese women. Just look at western society and show me how many foreign men are in western society media, pop culture, music, fashion, art, etc. I already know this is going to go way past mandarin corners head because at the end of the day she is a chinese woman but Kirk probably sees what Im talking about.

I think the topic of Chinese thinking foreigners look down upon them is a kind of unconscious reveal of how they see others, like less developed minorities or south East Asians, which Chinese look down upon. So they think this is how others see them.

TOO FAST? Control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time on desktop computers and laptops OR 25% at a time on smartphone!
Access the playback speed controls as follows:
Desktop Computers and Laptops: open the video, then go to the lower right of the video's screen and click on the settings icon (it looks like a GEAR). On the upper right of the options window that comes up, you will see the link "custom". Click on the "custom" link to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time.
Smartphones: open the video and go to the upper right of the video's screen. You will see 3 dots. Click on them and you will see the link to open the "playback speed" controls. Click on this link and you will be able to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 25% at a time. Note that viewing the video on desktop computer/laptops gives you greater control over the playback speed (5% vs 25% on smartphones).

This video is definitely painting Chinese men in a more positive light than what I've seen on a few documentaries. These documentaries had shedded light on domestic violence, and how men have unrealistic expectations of women. How they want a young and pretty girl, while they're 10 times her senior without many teeth left in their mouths, amongst other issues.
Regardless of that, this is great content, and I'll definitely pay for the lifetime subscription.

Spitting is considered unsanitary in the US and Europe. It's was one of the ways that tuberculosis was spread during the 19th and early 20th centuries. If you are spitting in the street you are possibly guilty of spreading a highly contagious disease. Among some of the tribes of Africa notably the Maasai of Kenya and Tanzania, however, spitting is a form of greeting, similar to saying hello, but also very polite and formal.

At HSK4 level, I find these are just perfect - enough familiar vocabulary for me not to get totally lost, but lots of new useful words and phrases too! And the topic is fascinating, too - this is something that perhaps is a little difficult to talk about, and a Chinese friend might not open up fully about this to a Westerner (just my assumption), so I feel like I'm eavesdropping in a way.... getting an insight into the culture and mentality, not just the language. However ' as time went on , we became more and more open to almost all things' from the way we dress to our lifestyles to sex . In fact almost everything as we once knew it changed with time.. In my country its called progress, times change and if we did'nt progress along with it ' ' we get left behind. Listening to this , l cant help thinking China is also changing and are where we were 20 years ago..

There are good and bad people in all areas of the globe, romanticising one race, culture etc, only leads to disappointment 😔.. So my love for the East isn't blinded by thinking only good people live there, human nature is human nature world wide. Stereotyping serves only to diminish individuality :( ...anyway, I'm so excited to travel China over the next few years, I will go with an open mind and heart ♥

Most Chinese think foreign men are playboys. But I can tell you from my experience that many Chinese guys want western girls for 'fun' because they are more outgoing and wild than Chinese girls (although this is actually changing). But yeah, the western girls don't want them back. I have many Chinese male friends who are married (one of them is from Tibet!) and who STILL want western girls or other Chinese girls as a lover. Dig deeper into the Chinese culture and yeah, you'll see a whole different perspective one you get to know the Chinese people more. Concubines, mistresses, girlfriends etc have always been embedded into Chinese culture, even right back when younger girls were used as slaves for the emperor -- literally hundreds of them.
Great learning content yet again, Mandarin Corner :D

The term 失败者 for foreigners going to China I think it comes from the fact that some foreigners meet other foreigners in China and sometimes they are really weird. I met a couple guys and we went to a bar and they told me the term losers back home or LBHs. It’s like they come to China because in China people treat you special cause you’re a foreigner and they don’t want to go back home because they are weird and no one likes them. So they stay in China because they feel more accepted there. I think it’s a long these lines. Unfortunately because they’re usually kind of weird they give a bad name to their home countries (like a lot of pediphiles from Australia go to south east Asia to live out their fantasies and because of this they give us Australians a bad image).

As a foreigner who has lived in China for over four years, and in Japan for about the same time, I often felt that I was being covertly monitored and evaluated and that any action I might make could easily end up becoming an example for defining foreigners' character and behavior. My evaluators' judgements were quickly and simply determined and very superficial. They were certain in their assessments, smug and condescending. I felt exhausted being around these kinds of people.

Me as so called “foreigner” in China do have complaints but not because of some problems that China has which any other country has too,but because people getting angry at you when you trying to talk about those problems and keep telling you that China is the best country in the world

Regarding the bargaining, it's necessary! The Chinese do it, not to mention white foreigners are automatically given the white foreigner price. You'd be foolish to pay ten times the normal price, especially when you are earning a maximum of twice what the average local earns (and possibly far less than other university educated locals thanks to exploitative business practices)! Thankyou Eileen, for your really interesting videos! They provide a great cultural insight as well as invaluable language practice.

PS. As for me, I went to China for the experience. Even though I earned more than my Chinese colleagues (which is unfair), I earned less than a quarter of what I was earning back home (if Chinese businesses paid foreigners from wealthier countries any less, they probably wouldn't come. So although it's an inequitable practice to pay people of different nationalities different amounts for doing the same job, I can see why they do it. Obviously it makes sense for the business to hire people they can pay less... But often they get around it by promising more, and then not delivering. They deceive you in order to get you to sign the contract and then to cancel your visa if you complain that they are not sticking to their side of the agreement). Anyway, I definitely wasn't there for the money. Apart from dishonest employers and bureaucratic related struggles, I really enjoyed my experience in China! It's best to break away from the expat groups if you want to make the most of your experience. The Chinese people are generally way more hospitable and accepting of foreigners (and their habits) than the other way around. I'm surprised at how favourable the outlook is towards foreigners, and how accommodating the Chinese are (especially considering some of the very bad behaviour, i.e. disregarding of the rules/laws, excessive drinking, predatory sexual practices, lack of respect, unwillingness to integrate, and constant complaining from some foreigners). If you abide by the adage "when in Rome, do as the Romans do" you will endear yourself to the locals, in time. Just as in any other country. Respect the locals and their customs, laws, etc. and you will be well received.

Yesterday I told this chinese lady who owns restaurant. also when she gave me the total I said 太贵了。 。。。 I also learned 外买 from her. I know she was asking to go or eat here even though I didnt know word for word what she's saying. Outside buy ...... to go order. Makes sense to me. Then for my drink order I say 喝酒!! She laughed. But she seemed a nice person and in a good mood so it was a good conversation. Then we said goodbye and I say 加油 . Lol I love that word. I was about halfway into hsk 4 before I took last 3 months off. I think I sound like I know more then I do. I do a good impersonation of Chinese pronunciation from mimicking Chinese Netflix shows. I know alot of random nonsense but I'm not shy and I try and be personable and funny which helps conversations. So I can throw out some filler or one liners . And while they give a response or laugh I'm thinking about what I really wanted to say cause I need afew extra seconds to gather my thoughts. Just go to Chinese restaurant more often and treat it like a dialogue from a book just in real life. I mean u can think up some filler or funny things to say for a restaurant setting. It's a pretty standard experience. Greetings. Menu. Drink . Order eat . They check on u afew times. Ask for check . Pay. Say goodbye. There's plenty to learn and think about what to say beforehand. And if u can learn a new word awesome. Cause you'll have a memory to go along with the word. Helps make the new word stick. I'm just rambling maybe itll help a fellow learner

This is why soft power is so important. people abroad have good images in their mind for Americans. Meanwhile China has poor soft power, and they're purposefully poorly represented, at least the men, and the westerner's image of Asians are underwhelming.

    Very common observations.
Latino: "Hi, Mrs. Wang, My name is...... with........Inc."
Mrs. Wong: (Ignoring the intro) "Jose, comm hee-ah, Kleen hee-ah."
BTW, Jose was not the name the Latino introduced himself, and he is not a Janitor either.
Amigo" comm comm hee-ah.
Latino departing airplane after chatting with an elderly Chinese lady.
Chinese not related to her: "Aren't you her caregiver?"
    Latino:
The Latino is not her caregiver, but the Chinese assumed he was the "Help."

RESPECT has to be earned!!! Parents are no exception, parents, too, have to earn the respect of their children. To obey/respect someone just because they are older than you is silly.
