  • The Federal Communications Commission announced it will vote in April on whether or not to reinstate net neutrality -- a set of rules to ensure equal treatment of internet data. The Trump administration overturned the policy in 2017. NYU Law School professor Christopher Sprigman joins CBS News to unpack the battle.

    Everyone loves to hate on California, but the reality is, we are a testing ground for new laws, and we have a lot of protections other states don't have. For example, covid treatments like Paxlovid are mandated to be covered free by your insurance company, where as the rest of the cost is paying over $1000 for it now.

    Internet access has gone from being a luxury to being a necessity. We need to treat it as a utility in the exact same way we treat electricity.

      🤦‍♂️ so then who is going to pay for the compines that put in the leg work to set it all up?

      So access to tik toc and social media is a right where the burden of the cost should be spread out to tax paying Americans?

    • @codybeasenburg6275
      @codybeasenburg6275 Місяць тому

      @@donmoyer3587 utilities are different than public services. It's an issue of regulation, particularly in regards to quality, pricing, and maintenance, not who pays for them. We pay for our own electricity consumption, but federal and/or state law requires that power lines are maintained and are kept to certain standards. It also prevents electric & gas companies from price gouging people. It's not that using tiktok is a right that the government should be footing the bill for anymore than using a blender is a right that the government foots the bill for. You need electricity for important daily functions like heating and air just like you need internet for scheduling medical appointments and (in many places) paying rent (the fact that you can also use them for benders and tiktok respectively is just a fun bonus). You pay for that consumption, but governmental policy ensures that you get what you pay for.

    In addition to net neutrality, we also need data privacy protection, right-to-repair legislation, and AI use regulation, just to name a few.

      they get away with it because local governments let there be only one or two conpines in town.
      It needs to be just like cell service. you have Tmobile, ATT, and Verizon. Then, all the MVNOs.

      Ever notice how nowadays no matter what you search the results are 99% mainstream news websites or corporate sites? Before 2013 if you searched up a specific phrase then ONLY websites that have pages with that specific phrase will result. Scroll on youtube and see how many "recommended" results pop up instead of what you searched.

    Now imagine paying hundreds a month for broadband while someone else pays absolutely nothing for the same service. Why is this guy trying to sell this as if this is going to stop ISP'S from monopolizing certain areas? That's like selling suntan lotion under the premise that it's anti-aging cream.

    Gaming needs to be fixed especially if we’re heading into cloud, gaming, and renting games through things like game pass we also need to worry about digital ownership of movies, music, and video games. There needs to be a priority please
