I remember reading an interview with her from awhile ago where she said she wants to write really different stuff but she also wants to please her fans, so she keeps writing and releasing pop. She said back then that her next album would have a more indie/folk feel, but I doubt it. She still wants that huge payday she gets from releasing crap like Roar and California Girls. Who knows, though? Maybe she will surprise us.
As both an avid MGMT and Katy Perry fan, I concur. This is the best Katy has really ever sounded, plus the song sounds beautiful acoustic. It is not a comparison of who sang it better, but it is a cover of a different vibe to the song.
