Just bought this same car in black, with 68k miles on it. Gearing was a bit shorter then I expected, and coming from my 06 supercharged cobalt ss makes it feel slightly droney on the highway. But it handles like a go kart and knowing I can ride 6th gear from 40mph up and past highway speed without lag makes it worth the shorter gear ratio.
I want to say good job on the review. Just right amount of info and criticisms about the car. The kid has his own style of doing the review not all writers has to be Cooley.
Cooley is my favorite but this guy does good reviews. It's like Top Gear because I'm sure most of us prefer Jeremy Clarkson to do a review because of his style, but nobody complains when Richard and/or James do one. Same thing for CNET. Different reviewer will deliver a different style. Both are good in their own respect.
I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who "kind of liked" the aveo. don't get me wrong I would never buy one, but it is nice to know I'm not the only one who did not total hate it and could not explain why.
There are 3 things you want in an enthusiast car. 1: lightweight. 2: fairly cheap to buy and have accessible cheap replacement parts with turbo from factory. 3: has aftermarket support. This hits all 3. Fairly cheap to buy and maintain. Engine is still widely used and is domestic which usually equal cheaper to buy and maintain. And ZZPerformance makes parts for this to get it in the 250hp to the wheels range which would be easily fast enough for a car like this with pretty much straight direct bolt on parts. It's an easy choice to buy for me.
@@ccdoes1841 honestly, the same thing you'd look out for on any car. Basically, drive it, and does it make any noise. Check the oil, does it look normal, or does it look milky (milky oil = bad head gasket which is expensive). Get it up to highway speeds and see if there's any shaking (tire or suspension issue). But really, it's likely fine with 80,000 on the clock. I would merely say check for an rs. Better stock suspension, Better brakes, alloy wheels (lighter and stronger than steelies). Body kit. But it's not a deal breaker if your getting the hook up on an lt. Just you can start throwing around an rs out of the lot. I would upgrade a few things on a lt before going crazy.
Antuan did a good job on this one. I'm just fascinated by the huge space between first and second gear. Why would the gear a car like that? Does it artificially cripple acceleration and increase fuel economy?
Good review! I really like this car , but I also like the new Elantra , the Cruze, the Accent , the new Dodge Dart , 2014 Kia Forte , the Mazda 3 , and the Ford Focus. Damn! There are a lot of great choices in the compact/subcompact market these days!! :^)
"Cooley Cooley we want Cooley"...STHU already Cnet please disable comments when doing car reviews. NO...even better yet do some sort of program survey too better understand the average youtube user's mind state when leaving comments.
I love my LTZ Turbo but I honestly wouldn't buy it again if given the chance. It's good at what it does, namely being comfortable with decent handling, but it's not a hot hatch by ANY means. The 1.4 is fine at low end but there is no top end power.
Get the simple trifecta turbo advantage tune for a completely bone stock Sonic it's like 250 bucks downloaded to you car and it will be like driving a tottaly different car it's night and day . I had cat backs ,cold air , mufflers none of that out did the advantage tune best thing it's tune on the fly you press the cruise button once it's in stock mode turn it off it's in tune mode instantly I'm at 21 psi boost at WOT in tune mode in stock mode it only boost to 17
Chevy ruined it a few years in. They changed the front lights , the back lights, and the speedo/tach setup --everything that made it unique. Then they decided to stop making it. As it looks now, that was probably a good decision.
What I think is rediculous is the fact you could buy a new 200 HP Sonata or 182 HP Altima both with Better MPG and both with automatic and a little more elbow room for less money then the Sonic RS. even a 172 HP Camry is cheaper.
my 1996 toyota tercel has a 3 speed auto and a 1.5l engine yet it still gets my 30MPG combined city/ highway. here this thing is with a smaller engine and way more gears and it gets 25? Lel. Granted my tercel handles like a boat and has the rigidity of a soda can and as much technology as a brick but still this thing should be getting 40mpg at least. It's been 17 years since my tercel released.
My fellow Cooley fanboys...may I ask a favor? Please look at the title of this vid. '13 Chevy Sonic Arr-ess. Do we really want Cooley to waste his massive wit on this? You can tell Antuan was only doing this because he lost a bet. Just listen to him. You know he was doing shots to get up for this then shots afterwards to make himself forget. I bet you!
I thought he did a good review only there was one more option he didn't mention or know the sunroof then your done , I have the same car but with auto and sunroof the reason why I didn't buy the stick is I seen it here and other reviews about the shifting back and forth to keep it moving in no man's land as he decribed . Also the cheapest bang for your buck to wake up that Sonic without breaking the bank a engine tune I have the trifecta turbo advantage tune it's made for bone stock Sonic no mods around 250 bucks that car will be like night and day in powedband best thing about it you can change from stock tune to performance tune by pressing a button no waiting .....
I wish I could get Bringgo on my android. for some reason the app store don't recognize it. It's stupid that chevy didn't put a GPS program in the car. I know you can use onstar but I'm not paying for that shit.
I’m 16 and I freaking love my gray 2013 Chevy Sonic RS. Got it for $3,000 with 178,000 miles on it; 5,000 miles later... still no problems.
Watching this in 2020 and thinking how the Sonic is so awesome looking
Same!
I purchased the 2016 sonic RS w/ factory upgraded turbo, Borla exhaust and lowering suspention. It's a nice sporty/ safe car with good mpg.
how much? $$$
Introducing the all new 2013 chevrolet sonic rs hatchback 4d
How did I know by the dislikes it wasn't Cooley? Antuan and Wayne are fine reviewers give em a break...
8 years old

I freaking love this car
If you get a non-RS model with the manual and the turbo engine, the mileage ratings jump to 29/40.
if anything would be "crap" it would be this guy and his review... what's up with all the negativity?
We "car guys" know that this Sonic will blow ANY Toyota in the weeds!
Why is this video getting so much hate? I personally have had a LTZ turbo sonic since 14 and everything he's saying is very fair.
One of the BEST automobiles built in the last 20 years!
I want to say good job on the review. Just right amount of info and criticisms about the car. The kid has his own style of doing the review not all writers has to be Cooley.

Give the kid a chance...he's no Cooley, but he's getting better with every review. Good Job Antuan.
I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who "kind of liked" the aveo. don't get me wrong I would never buy one, but it is nice to know I'm not the only one who did not total hate it and could not explain why.
i went on a 400 mile journey in the back of my friends aveo.. i thought i was alright.
I love Cooley like the rest of you guys, but this guy did an awesome job.

Looking at the LT Turbo one with 80K miles on it. I agree it checks all these boxes. Anything I should look out for?
@@ccdoes1841 honestly, the same thing you'd look out for on any car. Basically, drive it, and does it make any noise. He did well and touched on the important aspects of the car like gearing and powerband. Relax Cooley's army.
Antuan did a good job on this one.
I'm just fascinated by the huge space between first and second gear. Why would the gear a car like that? Does it artificially cripple acceleration and increase fuel economy?
Eh I don't mind this guy, Cooley is the gold standard
He didn't do that bad. Pretty nice little car.
Come on guys we all know Cooley is the best, but that guy did not do a bad job
How about an SS model with the beasty 2.0. , i would buy one today !
Yes! A twin turbo "eco-tech"
Yeah, its not cooley, but this guy really isnt all that bad, tbh!
Like it how this review and Brian's review on the 2012 model made reference to CNET's 2007 Chevrolet Aveo, the "Lemon".
New android phones aren't compatible with BringGo, like the S4 and the Note 3. I think it is same for the 2014 models.
Everyone stop complaining before they give us Wayne Cunningham again lol
I think he did a great job.
Antuan does a great job with his reviews, it's juat that
Good review! I really like this car , but I also like the new Elantra , the Cruze, the Accent , the new Dodge Dart , 2014 Kia Forte , the Mazda 3 , and the Ford Focus. Damn! There are a lot of great choices in the compact/subcompact market these days!! :^)
I would stay away from the Chevy, Dodge and Ford, everything else on your list is GREAT!
Give the guy a break, great review man :)
I currently have a 2005 Aveo LT. My next car WILL BE a Sonic LT, I haven't decided on RS or SS yet. ;)
Get the one with the "LS" option.
im sure he will get better with time
Not cooley good but will do until cooley gets back!
Nice car it's like a grown up spark
Give him a break, hes actually a good job
whats wrong? he's good!
Wow, they didn't even mention the car has Siri
"Cooley Cooley we want Cooley"...STHU already Cnet please disable comments when doing car reviews. NO...even better yet do some sort of program survey too better understand the average youtube user's mind state when leaving comments.
good job antuan
I straight up didn’t know it had back doors at the dealership. I thought I was buying a 2 door 😂
That engine powers the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer, bigger than than the Impala or Equinox
That's because they need to get off Cooley's ----- and let the man come up for air.
Who is Cooley?
What's with this low-grille trend? ._.
SUX.
I love how as soon as people see it isn't Cooley they dislike what I thought was a great review. Also, where the hell is is 55 degrees in August? haha
where tf is Cooley?
Definitely have heard Cooley say that word numerous times. He's even said some more bold things as well, haha.
Antuan is better than that whiny cooley.
He's not that bad he's just different and less funny
Get the Trifecta Tune! it makes a world of difference!
Get the "LS" with 6-speed and RWD!
This is a AWESOME car
I love my LTZ Turbo but I honestly wouldn't buy it again if given the chance. It's good at what it does, namely being comfortable with decent handling, but it's not a hot hatch by ANY means. The 1.4 is fine at low end but there is no top end power.

It will still put a Fiesta ST on the trailer!
55 degree weather? damn must be nice. it is fricking hott here in Austin!
If you want an LTZ without the stuff you probably won't use (i.e. Remote Start), just get the LT and put MyLink and fog lights on it.
Better yet, stick an "LS" in it with 8-speed DCT hooked to RWD! Now, that's what I WOULD call rather SPORTY!
Chevy ruined it a few years in. They changed the front lights , the back lights, and the speedo/tach setup --everything that made it unique. Then they decided to stop making it. As it looks now, that was probably a good decision.
Please leave the review to Brian pleaaaase
Well, he is NO Mr. Regular!
I just watched the entire review with Antuan Goodwin....I survived.
how many times did the AVEO leave u stranded, or the one day it didn't start?
NEVER!..............................never owned one!
antuan is pretty good as well, very informative, just a different style
What I think is rediculous is the fact you could buy a new 200 HP Sonata or 182 HP Altima both with Better MPG and both with automatic and a little more elbow room for less money then the Sonic RS. even a 172 HP Camry is cheaper.
But, they are ALL "ricers", the Sonic is an American car, made in America, for Americans!
Good review
why dont CNET on cars people listen to us that we want cooley. Either fire him completely or bring him for car reviews.
Lol ok ok so it no 2015 gti but he'll it gets the job done for a cheap little small car with a tad bit of sport! I did say tad bit lol
it has a amazing body built for rally racing alot of pro drivers are making chevy sonic costumes more then anything right now
@@quadgod8111 With Halloween just around the corner, I would like to find one of those "sonic costumes". Does Amazon sell them?
The tomato 😂
not in Australia it's called Holden Barina :) and this car was designed in Australia
#winning
they still make the Aveo here in mexico where i'm working lol.
give the guy a break
IS HE THE CHUBBY GUY FROM SESAME STREET?
IM SERIOUS. IS HE?
This guy is good.
Like a taller, living version of Gary Coleman
Love my 16 sonic lt 1.8 hot red buy them their amazing
Where is Cooley?
Antuan is actually a good reviewer, but Cooley blows any other reviewer on here. Instead of California or bust, it is Cooley or bust!
my 1996 toyota tercel has a 3 speed auto and a 1.5l engine yet it still gets my 30MPG combined city/ highway.

Yes, but will this Chevy be one of the 95%, built within the last 10 years, that are STILL on the road...............waiting for that tow truck?
At least he was telling the TRUTH about the older model. Great review overall!
wtf....and you call THIS a review?
I think that this guy drives all the manual cars and Cooley drives the auto cars
THE JUICE BOX LMAO
Hey let Butchy Kaboom take this car for a test drive!
it would be cool if they teamed up and did some together
deawoo ?
Good review. I'd rather get a fit for that price.
"Fits" are HISTORY!
$20k is far too expensive for this Aveo that was loaded up with every eBay accessory out there.
Don't do reviews on Cooley's day offs please

WHERE THE FUCK IS COOLEY? HE'S THE MAN!
I'm okay with Cooley not reviewing this car. Keep him for the good cars, let the rest review the shitty ones :)

HE. HAS. A. LISP. I got mine fixed in third grade, son!
in colorado
Quit whining about Cooley...
Is everything "crap?"
Only the Toyotas and Hondas!
gotta put the 2.0 turbo in it.
would rather have the "LS" with RWD!
