My impression is that if you plan to truly free range quail in your yard, California quail seem to tolerate the stress of predators, disease, harsh winter weather and periodic food disruption the best. Thanks for posting this informative video.
Thank you for your excellent information. But just one comment: could you look into ways of keeping your quails on a more animalfriendly way? In which I mean.. more space per quail for them to run around. And also enough sand so they can keep their feathers clean and perform more natural behaviour. They seem really crowded. And seeing them walking on metal.. just doesn't seem right. Might be something to look into? :)
When I was a child, my brothers caught a quail that was as big as a regular chicken but looks exactly like a button quail. We can't believe that there is a quail that size. My father told us that there were really quails that big in our place. Sadly, I have not heard a single quail of that kind that have been caught or seen nowadays. There are no more forests for miles and miles from where those birds usually existed.

I agree they need more space, shouldn't be treated like objects and killed at 8 weeks old, and they should NEVER be kept on wire floors
